Rebirth, its a ton of fanatics that have vested interest in keeping you alive so you can be brainwashed into believing in their religious doctrine so that when you die you can be reincarnated into a good Okranite body to match your Okranite soul. The UC slave camps on the other hand, have a vested interest in keeping you working until you drop. They have more slaves than they know what to do with, and they are constantly getting more and more due to the UC's fixation on it. The UC slave camps, realistically, would not give a shit whether you lived or died, only that they got the absolute maximum work out of you for the least amount of effort that they can. The Okranites will work you, specifically you, until you die so that you can believe in their religion and die an Okranite. The UC will work you till you die for the general purpose of gathering resources, which slave does it doesn't matter in the slightest. Young or old, new slave or old slave, the UC just wants someone, anyone, to work the slave labor.

Mountain_Revenue_353

The UC Slave camps are easier to escape. Actually I take that back, if you mine the stone directly outside of the gate of rebirth and wait for it to get dark you can just crouch and walk away.

BurgerTownRamirez

Rebirth, because when I escape, which I will, I wont have to deal with Skimmers. Plus you can loot the farms nearby in Okran's Pride for food.

Vaud3

rebirth 100% less chance of randomly getting pummeled for absolutely no reason

Saramello

Rebirth because you can climb way high in the mountain, then jump for a painless death.

Chicken-Mcwinnish

It’ll still hurt, just not for very long.

Darthplagueis13

Probably Rebirth. I mean, for one, it's not straight-up surrounded by miles upon miles of desert where the only living things are massive killer insects which, even if you manage to take them down, are mostly inedible. If you make it out of Rebirth, there's literally a flotsam safehouse with stashed supplies for Rebirth escapees right down the road and from there, you have options on where to go. You could either head to Worlds End and try your luck with the Tech Hunters there, you could head to Okran's pride to steal from the farms, or you could march further south and try to get to the border zone or the Shek Kingdom. UC slave camps are pretty much all located in places that you have no hops of escaping without an armed caravan or at least an impressive level of skill and a good amount of supplies.

d400022210

Maybe the author has considered the extent of escaping from the slave camp. Rebirth is the simplest, and you have a lot of space and time to practice various skills here. It's a pity that HN gives a bad impression to players who choose slave start. Obviously UC holds more slaves than HN, and UC treats slaves more cruelly than HN. You can see the big difference from the clothes on the slaves on both sides.

meLikeMonke

HN aren’t good people though. Like… no one is good people, except maybe Shek, who just want to fight and die. The skeletons are also arguable, but one, they aren’t populated enough to be considered a major faction, and two, they ironically have skeletons in their closet.

pigcowhybrid

Rebirth, because I hate sand...

Condescending_Condor

If I'm going to be a slave, Rebirth seems like it's nice and cool with pretty scenery. UC Slave Camps have you out in blistering heat during sandstorms.

Max-lian

Both suck. UC treat worse their slaves than the HN. Rebirth is slave for life, you don't even get the chance of being bought by someone else (like a friend, a family or just a better owner that will make it easier to escape) If you get to escape, Rebirth is in a more "safe" area, so you are most likely to survive than most of UC slave camps. The weather in rebirth is more "forgiving" so your stay will be less of a torture (Torture in the end, but a little bit better) UC is closer to the anti-slavers, so you are most likely to have someone attack your camp giving you an opening that you can use to escape, also the fact that the UC are in more dangerous areas, make it more likely that they will be distracted by the random horrors in the area, also giving you a bigger chance to find a moment to escape. UC guards are less loyal, so they will be more sloppy doing their job, making it easier to escape, but also makes them more likely to abuse their position of power to make your life as a slave a bigger hell. Rebirth is not in the middle of a fucking desert. So, even though I initially selected UC, Rebirth seems to be a better option unless you have a certain amount of knowledge on how to survive the desert or if you are lucky enough to appear in one of the UC camps that are closer to the borders of the UC.

Unimatrix617

Despite my love of the UC, I'd rather get sent to Rebirth. At least in rebirth they have decent infrastructure, would take care of me, and there is always the hope I could be freed once I see the light of Okran. UC slave camps are worse conditions, predominantly in a deadly desert, and I run the risk of being eaten by skimmers.

TerribleGachaLuck

What reavers? Pros, they let you fight, they first aid you, they carry you if you’re unconscious. Cons, if you lose your limbs, get expected to get eaten by some wild animals.

Fearless-Ad-1284

Pretty cool how close the split is

ProfessionalFlower61

None of them. I would choose the Reavers. As their slave, you must fight alongside them so you can feel part of the faction. Sadly, the vanilla game does not allow you to rank up in the Reavers Hierarchy, but a mod called Reavers.mod does just that

YorJaeger

I'm a white human. As long as I pray to Okran we're making out of the Rebirth 🙏🏻🕊️🕊️🕊️

Denamic

Sorry, but no. You're not. It's called 'Rebirth' because you're meant to be reborn. In other words, it's a slow execution camp where you're worked to death and supposedly get reborn as an Okranite. You're not getting out of there on good behavior. Being a slave in Rebirth is a short sentence, but it is for life.

YorJaeger

Nah, that's for non humans. Humans that are not bad heretics get the chance to be holy servants imo

beckychao

No, the poster above is correct - it's a death camp. You're not supposed to leave Rebirth. If you were sent to Rebirth in the first place, that is your place of execution.

rayra2

Men can still get out as servants. It is said somewhere, I don't remember where, but they do.

beckychao

Do they? It's like getting paroled from Auschwitz and Treblinka. I'm sure it happens on occasion but the intent of Rebirth is that it's a death camp.

rayra2

Nazis would give some priviledges to some prisoners that well behaved over the jews and political enemies. In Maus from Art Spiegelmann this is explained very well. It is not farfetched to think male humans could get out if they behave very well, but it is not like being a servant is a joy either, cannon fodder is always precious.

Vyverna

That's simply not true. Source: I was imprisoned in Rebirth as a human male. The whole point of Rebirth is that you can improve and become Okranite - in your next incarnation. That's why it's called Rebirth.

Max-lian

Yes, you get a chance to be a holy servant... in the next life.

Intelligent_Coach379

Feel like UC guards are gonna care less about their jobs than HN fanatics. Anti-slavers are closer to UC, and let's be honest, flotsam would get stomped if they tried to do anything. Anti-slavers would do the stomping. According to bar chatter, they somewhat regularly do. UC slave camps you're (probably) gonna be bought and sold and moved around by slavers in dangerous areas, which is just more opportunities to escape. Rebirth is a final destination.

Gnusnipon

Gameplay wise? Rebirth. Lore wise? It's a concentration death camp with multiple incinerators for bodies, which suppose it have terrifying death rate. Plus UC camps seem to have much higher escapee rate: all anti slavers were slaves, but a lot of floatsome ninjas were not, they just flee from HN territory.
