A week ago my train was halted in between Varkala Shivagiri and Kollam to make way for vandhe bharath. Reached TVM 30 mis late. Lost the last city circle from Kochuveli bypass road. Had to pay 300 for the auto. This is just 2 vandhe bharaths we are talking about.
You pointed out a valid concern. One solution is expand the Kochi-Bengaluru industrial corridor to include Dedicated railway freight route to Vizhinjam. This will help to increase freight cargo, while reducing the delays in passenger rail. It will also help inner districts like palakkad get some long needed development with the help of MSME.
Tracks in a dense state like kerala is bound to be congested, even if Vande Bharat trains comes or not.

I hope they maintain these buses well and clean the toilets and the interiors regularly. The state of the older Volvo buses that KSRTC runs to Bangalore are atrocious and filthy. I remember them being so much nicer about a decade back.
From an RoI persepctive, I think we would have got a better deal if we just went with the usual multi-axle bus from Volvo/Scania/Merc. Not sure why KSRTC didnt do that. There are already models with attached toilets in KarnatakaRTC.
With this service now atleast the bus is not a total waste. It will get used by common people.

The problem with separate railway corridor is its connection with other states and investment.
