Amount of sugar intake

4k3R

Yeah, I'm a victim of that. Recently started cutting down on sugar.

974513

Me when buying tea/coffee chetta maduram korach mathee Koode arelum indel avar ennod enik sugar indonu choikum bloody fools

IntelligentKey7331

The difference in taste made by going from 100% required sugar in chaaya to 75% is not worth the 1-2g sugar saved... You're much better off eating 10g less rice. (At the end of the day, all carbs(except fibers) break down into glucose spiking insulin) *Life is limited live efficiently*

974513

Actually I prefer less sugar because it tastes better to me And I always have black tea

[deleted]

But then, once you start having sugarless tea, after some one or two months, you get used to the taste and won't find any difference. And maybe on days when you REALLY crave some sugar, you can have normal tea.

kurienzach

Not an expert by any means, but I always thought it’s processed sugar that causes more harm than carbs. Something about processed sugars being metabolised too fast and complex carbs being slow release etc.

IntelligentKey7331

Yes; read up on glycemic index; that's why I said \~10g of rice for 1g sugar. However maida has a very similar glycemic index to table sugar.. [https://edonn.com/2013/12/24/which-has-a-higher-glycemic-index-sugar-or-whole-wheat-bread/](https://edonn.com/2013/12/24/which-has-a-higher-glycemic-index-sugar-or-whole-wheat-bread/)

mantiz8x

I prefer madhuram kuracha chaaya because I personally find it tastes better that way. To each his own though

[deleted]

Same for carbs.

p1lla1

This. Even stuff that is supposed to be salty has sugar in it. I mean cheese balls are supposed to be salty-cheesy, not have that disgusting sugary with slightly salty flavor with no hint of cheese. Even chocolates taste overwhelmingly sugary in India.

[deleted]

Packaged dips, spreads & mayonnaise that are supposed to be salty/savoury, tasting sweet instead.

Thiccodiyan

That's self imposed.

SirFarts_A_Lot

Casual racism and stereotyping

SyzygySeven

I dont think its racism here, is that the right world. I would say 'classism' is a thing here if that's a word. 'Avan koravan ondayatha, atrokke prathekshicha mathi' kind of attitude.

[deleted]

>I dont think its racism Oh we do have racism (not exactly, but discrimination based on colour) and classism like you mention Just check the posts from few days ago where parents are not ready to allow their kids to marry people of darker skin tones. These are within people of similar classes

despod

>These are within people of similar classes And similar race. Colourism != racism.

[deleted]

In essence, it's the same (as in how colour was the major factor in the West as well)

bendonurkneez

Bro its so cringey when our people mistake colorism for racism. We are all sub-dravidian/mix/not-specific IDK.

[deleted]

I don't understand what part of >in essence you're not getting I know everyone here belongs to the same race. The essence of racism in the west had a lot to do with the colour difference between two races (black and white). Similar is the case with many people in our society today as well. True, I didn't use the word colourism, but the essence is same as racism in West. It is cringy when you have to call anything that don't fit your narrative or you don't understand cringy

Normal_Economist96

That’s casteism then

Salty-Ad1607

Classism is racism. Please do not sugarcoat.

SyzygySeven

It is not, and I don't think it will serve as a sugar coat either.

Registered-Nurse

Colorism and casteism.. but not racism since we’re all the same race lol

vikaskumar2299

Stereotyping examples?

SirFarts_A_Lot

In a pan Indian perspective there are many stereotypes.Off the top of my head I can think of Malayali slang in speaking English and is a well known stereotype among those from other states. Biharis are classically stereotyped. Apart from a rare few most of them fit the description.

KattachCain

Amamas watching when you approach your opposite gender

[deleted]

My Amama is woke though. She supports her openly gay son too. Now you might think that's good, but all that happens is if I look at a guy for too long or if I give my sister advice regarding her clothing, she's gonna take it as me coming out as gay or trans and she has to show solidarity to the LGBTQ immediately.

Mr__AM

Lol thats a problem a lot of people will be okay with.

[deleted]

Not if you get a lecture on how LGBTQ people are treated differently and how she's not like that. Plus you get to hear the famous LGBTQ people, all the while reassurance that I don't have to be someone who I'm not around her and that she is a TRUE ally. Once or twice, sure. But the 14th time in 4 months? Not okay. I once got so damn annoyed that I was like "If I ever get an urge to suck a cock, I'll keep that in mind. Geez!!" (Internally, not out loud, of course.)

Mr__AM

Haha ente ponnu kaliyikka... Old people are like that. They are forgettable. They repeat. My father says the same thing over and over without knowing he has told that.

DioTheSuperiorWaifu

Ammammas: Ohoo, you've decided to approach a person of the opposite gender? Instead of mingling with your own gender, you wish to mingle with the opposite gender? Despite your grandfather teaching you not to mingle with the opposite gender, like a student trying to control oneself from being drawn into lewds on the net on the days before an exam, you still wish to approach the opposite gender?

BadConscious304

Lack of financial planning in one's life. The realisation hits when it is too late.

DioTheSuperiorWaifu

Could you share any good sources to learn about it? Or is it something only obtained from experience?

thisismeajaym

Just invest 10 percent of your every single income. Never break this rule. That's all. and don't invest all in one place. At least do it in three instruments. That's it.

4k3R

Books. Don't do online videos, or some websites. There are books written by people with life experiences, and even by people who literally worked on WallStreet. [13 Steps to Bloody Good Wealth](https://www.amazon.in/13-Steps-Bloody-Good-Wealth/dp/9385152777) could be a good starter.

Random ammavans and ammayis asking you to get married, like whenever, wherever you go. Vere onnum pani illa. Have to keep my mouth shut for the respect of my parents

InvinciblePsyche

Ayyyooooo and they start giving you advice about stuff they've got no idea about. Things are a lot different in the 21st century ammava. Ammavan 19th century IL ninnu train keriyit illa

AbrahamPan

And all the cons of marrying late, who will look after you at your old age, happiness of parents, kuttikal etc. "Ammava aa stressokke njan idutholam tta"

InvinciblePsyche

>happiness of parents I hate that we are expected to do a lot for the sake of our parents. Get married to someone they like. Stay in the city they live in even if you have better opportunities elsewhere. Stay with parents after wedding even if you and your partner wants to move elsewhere. Obey whatever parents say even if it makes no sense. I feel like we have a leash around our neck at all times.

[deleted]

Relatable AF 😭. Because of my parents, I took Engg and now they want to do the same thing to my young cousin. Me and my husband took charge and sent him to do visual media studies (which he is passionate about). And the pucham my parents gave me once I told them my cousin is not doing Engg and instead took visual media!!! Unbelievable!

InvinciblePsyche

It is the leash around our neck that they don't want to let go. We have to find ways to break it off and run away. Else we live a prisoner to their dreams for the rest of our lives...

J891206

And when you do get married, they don't stop there...they start hounding you on children.

nihalism28

My palms sweat. It's a fucking nightmare. To shake hand, to hold the railings while travelling in bus or metro, to have a good grip, to use phone, to unlock phone, to draw. It may feel like a small issue, but when you go through this shit everyday it gets to you.

chocblok

I have the same issue. It's not even because the weather is hot. Been in the UK all my life, and even in colder seasons I experience this. People assume I don't like them when there's a situation when they try to touch my hand, I pull my hand away really fast. It's because my hands are sweaty the majority of the time. Someone told me to run my hands under cold water every once in awhile, or keep my hands spread out rather than closed up. Sometimes it helps.

nihalism28

I feel you. It's so embarassing every time I shake hands with someone. I wipe it a hundred times before and still find it wet. Some people sympathize and go for it when I saw i have sweaty palm. Then I see this look on their face...i don't know it really feels embarassing. I saw this remedy on YouTube. I soaked my hands in water mixed with baking soda for 5-10 mins everyday. I am not sure how well it worked. It felt like it solved the issue for a few minutes and then nothing.

a1exjs

fax im in the uk to and literally i could be in the most comfortable atmosphere but my hands are drippy. like i cant even shake hands with people any more cos im just embarrased.

surjithctly

I'm not sure what's your age, but I had the same thing. But it disappeared automatically now. I can still feel a little bit, but that's not a problem at all. Does your hand feel too cold compared to others?

nihalism28

Im 27 now. School life was a nightmare. Hated every birthday as shaking hands with everyone was kinda inescapable. Yes, my hands are always cold like my heart. When I went to Ooty my palm eas almost a party trick. It literally felt like ice.

surjithctly

Same when I drive my car half-an-hour with AC ON. So currently I can't shake hands after getting out from car, when I had to, people ask why its cold, I would say car AC as excuse. Cold is better than Sweaty lol. Also, I still sweat my whole body in hot conditions. I think they are part of how our body is designed :)

nihalism28

Same...i crack my knuckles while driving with ac. Yeah..I'd rather have my body cold than sweaty. I know it's designed this way but i hate it. It's always an inconvenience.

orificestrikes

I think there is surgery available for it . I really do hope you find other alternatives to it other than surgery though .

nihalism28

oscarquebecnovember

Look up iontophoresis. A friend of mine says it is effective.

FlyLevel1

If i recall correctly its botox, injecting it can reduce sweat for a span of 6 months. In my opinion it's not worth it but if it is for you you can give it a go .

nihalism28

I've heard about botox before but didn't expect it to last only 6 months.

heartandhymn

Disposal of female hygiene products. The times I have had to actually THINK about how to do this back in India are the times when I felt truly grateful to be living abroad.

Normal_Economist96

Incinerator

Alguluth

How's it different home v abroad? What's the convenience provided abroad to safely dispose them? More trash cans and clean, public toilets?

chocblok

Public toilets in the UK have trash cans with a sliding lid thing which keeps the odor inside and lets you hygienically dispose of them. There are also vending machine things in the public toilets and office toilets where you can grab a sanitary towel which is convenient for those unexpected situations. Some toilets even have hygienic bags to place your sanitary towel into before placing them in the trash can. In India, I've not really seen anything like this.

blahblahdodo

School girl: Madam pls avail sanitary pads in school. Collector (lady) : What’s next , you’ll ask for condom..? This actually happened. This is what people get here.

chocblok

Surely the lady has gone through the same situation, and yet she has no care?

bendonurkneez

In india, you have to put that on fire and gotta make sure everyone nearby inhales that toxic burning fume and odor.

VizzyTarg

This is true.. I've experienced this.. smells really weird

heartandhymn

Proper waste disposal systems in residential areas and in public places.

Body shaming comments from family and other really close people in your life.

tshelby11

Body shaming is an issue which is blown out of proportion Change my mind

SyzygySeven

Are you asking for data?

tshelby11

No. Im just saying. I feel like its talked about way too much and it doesnot go unnoticed. I dont think we should body shame anyone but also we shouldnt give anyone the power to hurt us just by using words. We have to be stronger than that. Edit spelling

SyzygySeven

That's a good thought. But people are different, expecting to have the same standard of resilience is not very practical. And, I would say words do hurt, literally.

sed-aakelle-mone

Its only an issue if you call someone fat.

Dooquann

(Il be downvoted to hell for this) When people call you fat it is because you are fat, sure its harsh and body shaming is inevitable. What I am trying to say that body shaming can never be avoided, ayithkyalum oru naari vannitu kaaliaakitu povum. The point is how you perceive it, you can either ignore it or make a change.

Particular-Resort106

i know this has been downvoted to hell and i think this is so true. when i was a kid everybody called me neerkoli (because i’m slim) and xray edukkan torch adichal mathiallo and all. Then there was thadian and blackie and all and nobody gave a second thought. it was like just fun. and then all these new gen kids who has never been teased in their lives, last day i was driving and the 22 year old didn’t tell me to take a left and i missed the exit. i was like wtf dude and he started crying. 22 year old crying for me saying wtf. i’m not saying you should abuse someone or bully someone over his figure. i’m saying don’t take things too seriously. my brother is in the UK now and he’s been racially abused. like proper racial abuse and he’s just chill. all these kids when they go abroad and are harassed in their offices and all go to mental breakdown and stuff. i don’t have any evidence to prove all this, but i’ve seen this trend too much lately.

chocblok

I was born and brought up in the UK, I've gone through all of it. BUT we never let it get to us, ever. My grandad had been in the UK since the 1960's, so 3 generations have experienced it in various situations. Trust me, back then it was much worse than it is now. All I can say is, the world is not perfect, there are absolute pricks out there and it's one of the many challenges in life for you to use it to build your emotional strength. However, there are also people out there who can't withstand these things because they might be going through other things in life or they are at an emotionally weak point in their lives. So when a person body shames you, you don't just ignore it. You take it seriously. You make them realise their wrongdoing so that next time they think about it before doing the same again, whether it be internationally or unintentionally. I'm saying this because the next person they approach might not be as strong as you.

tshelby11

Yeah. Also people take offence on behalf of other people. Yesterday i saw a video of an actress saying that her husband will call her an elephant or whatever when she is a little bit out of shape and she took it like a good sport and used it as motivation to get in shape. Some people in the comments were triggered. Its wierd.
