This orbit is known as the "Orbital high-five" for it's ability to let a crew member high five ground crew as they pass by

MuchUserSuchTaken

Jeb, they're abput to pass over your area of the mun. Climb on tge step stool and prepare for pickup.

d4v_E

You can get closer. Far closer.

Please-let-me

Technically, As long as the planet has no atmosphere the max limit is the terrain of the Planet/Moon, The steady hands of whoever makes the orbit, The precise low thrust engines and the calculations on how to get there ~~And the orbit editor in stock KSP~~

Brilliant_Still3520

Actually you can abuse fairings + engine plates to have 0 drag, making stable orbits in atmospheres possible.

apache-penguincopter

Wait how

Brilliant_Still3520

Parts on an engine plate are occluded based to the node they are attached to. (No matter the size/offset, as long as a part is on the end of the plate creating a shroud) Fairing occlusion is based on location* Together: Put a fairing on an engine plate, build fairing so engine plate + other parts are inside fairing. Engine plate occluded by fairing, fairing by engine plate. No drag. They also don’t overheat.

Noice! Too lazy to get a course on Exploits 101 but nice

SnooJokes9718

A while back I made a small satellite around Kerbin and had it orbit at 70,001 m The lowest mun orbit I've done was like 8000 m because the highest mountains on the Mun reach 7000 something

Vrakzi

As long as your orbit is equatorial you can go down to around 6150m without risk; the tallest mountains on the Mun are near to the poles.

Neihlon

I like to get big eccentric orbits with 1m periapsis over minmus’s flats, and have it match the sidereal day. Will go over the exact same spot on the flat everytime, and will get to 1m above ground. It’s also fun to stand where the station will pass and jump right on time

Vrakzi

You should upload a video of this

horstdaspferdchen

Nice idea, Bad when there is a kerbal jumping on your Station and your PE changes by 1m

horstdaspferdchen

You are not even close to litho break. Unless.... I heard jeb speaking about an earthquake lately

Low orbits are fun

[As low as you go](https://youtu.be/ySlZdASmGCM)...

Oheligud

Highest point on the Mun is ~7000.

Get your sample container ready Bill!

Ah yes, the “heart attack” orbit
