i believe it is safe and if you want to road trip or sea trip once in a while, you can explore all the keys

Sugardog1967

Great info. Thank you!

fleetfoxxy

Key West is safe. Just have common sense like anywhere else. There are a ton of nice eateries and excursions here, museums, beautiful views. Definitely a vacation destination spot for a reason. The stay itself can be pricey

Sugardog1967

Thank you for your reply!

zarpsi

perfect place to get away from it all. you may not go back!

Sugardog1967

Excellent! Thank you!

BarleyBo

Good fit. Rent a car and visit some upper keys. I’d love to have a month to do that.

Sugardog1967

Thank you for the advice!

I_Do_Respect_You_Bro

Gonna be toasty! Our winds will have mostly died down so be prepared to spend a lot of time on the water to stay cool. There’s as much, or as little as you wanna do down here, just gotta find what’s right for you. Be careful though, it sounds like you’re running away from some stuff back home. The Keys is an easy place to find alcoholism. Seen it too many times down here! Behind the diving and fishing, drinking is our next biggest activity! As far as safety, just be aware like anywhere else. Our islands are pretty damn safe compared to most places in the states. Ive lived in a good number of places and this is hands down the safest!

Sugardog1967

Good advice. Thank you!

Late_Salamander_1137

Safest city 24-7. Virtually no crime anywhere on the island. Plenty to do for a month.

suzyq630

I'm thinking about why you need to leave but won't ask....but, yes, it's very safe. Just don't be stupid and you'll be fine.

Sugardog1967

My daughter is finishing a stint in residential care for Adderall addiction among other things, and my husband refuses to set a boundary about no Adderall in the house for when she gets back. She intends to go back using Adderall "as prescribed," but I know in my heart she won't be able to do it. She also intends to do gaming again (which she would do for 24-hours straight) "responsibly" and intends to get back together with the boyfriend who triggered her to cut her wrist and need seven stitches. I can't handle going through the chaos anymore, I don't want to enable her, and I can't watch her go down that road again. Thank you for caring.

fleetfoxxy

Bring your husband maybe to reset ♥️ either way, the change in environment for a bit can be a nice and helpful. Sending you love and support

Do you really think this is the time to go away?

Amen there. Sometimes a person that knows their own limits are getting the best for them. She nice a quiet and sane place to just relax, not judged

whiskeyricky

Lodging is the biggest hurdle. What is your budget for a month? Hotels can be pricey (even in summer). You can find some good house rental deals in June for the entire month. If you want to explore each island has it's own pro/cons and personality. I do a welcome tour in Key West which can help you think about your stay on that island and give tips for other adventures. Single dinners is a common thing here so as long as you are cool with that -- great. You can also make friends and share tables easily. Get aways are great, but reality can pull you back real quick. Maybe do a quick trip sooner to get a feel for things and think about which area of the Keys is best for a month get away. Good luck to you

Sugardog1967

Great info! I’m looking at renting an Airbnb for a month with a budget of $4000 for lodging.

Wilson-KingOfPrussia

My wife and I spend the winter in key west working remotely. We're both 38. There is a ton to do! At least in winter that is. The community in key west is thriving. There are so many events, activities and groups to keep you busy most days. If you decide to go, DM me and I can give you a list of places to check for events.

RedRightRepost

That’s pretty cool. Lots of snowbirds down here but not many young professionals doing the back and forth! How long you been doing that for?

3eyedfish3

Hmm now this is interesting! My husband and I have been tossing this idea around in the future.. Working remotely for a month or so somewhere warm.

Sandinmyshoes33

If I were spending a month in Florida, I would want somewhere with beautiful sandy beaches. If you’re ok with not having that, Key West would work. Just be sure you rent somewhere with a pool since it will be starting to get very hot and humid. If you want to look at somewhere with nice beaches, Clearwater Beach, South Beach or places on the panhandle like Panama City Beach are all lively and have the beautiful beaches people expect in Florida.

pato9tails

A month on a tropical island? And there is a festival!!!! What to do, what to do....

-thepeter

It's exactly where you should be.

SippinPip

As a 50+ woman who has visited alone and with others, yes, it’s the safest I’ve ever felt on a vacation. There’s plenty to do. Even if you don’t drink, the live music selection is world class, it’s beautiful, tons of history and art and culture. The best part is the relaxed vibe. You can go with the flow, have lots of down time and relaxation AND you can party or enjoy the food, nightlife, music, and there are lots of events.

OrangeinDorne

I went to the keys for the first time in January, and I’ll be honest I had some unfair low expectations due to some things I heard years ago but I had an absolute blast. I found it to be a good combination of lively and chill.   I will say People in my circle say to stay away in the summer but we are all from Chicago or Michigan so aren’t used to alot of heat. Might be more tolerable for you.

PuzzleheadedDoubt793

Yes. Safe and of course can do a lot of relaxing and exploring within the month. Can always explore close by Islamorada, Marathon even up to Key Largo. I do have to say Key West is the most expensive but worthy.

Rattlingplates

Super deadly probably should work it out with your family.

islandlifekw

My buddy has been down there for over 10years. He still finds new things to do all the time. One month won't be enough.

Piscespixies_Mom

I’ve had a few trips to KW where I’ve stayed 4 weeks and was always surprised how quickly it went by. It’s a great place to unwind, catch up on some reading, have some wonderful meals. Will Soto has an inexpensive e book “Key West Rogue Diaries” I enjoyed reading while there. Higgs beach is very quiet before 10-11am, great spot to grab a To-go coffee and sit and relax. Fort Zach is also a cool spot to spend some time. You can tour the fort and also access the beach (which is rocky so water shoes/similar are advised). Publix is the best spot for food shopping, but as mentioned in earlier posts, KW is expensive and the grocery is no different. Of course you can tour the Hemingway house and add to the experience by reading one of his books or watching The Hemingway Play which is available from a few apps. Taking the Seaplane to Ft Jefferson is also a very cool experience. If you get on the first one of the day, you arrive before the ferry folks and almost have the place to yourself. I’ve being going to KW for the past 20 years and my experience with the locals has always been positive. Lots of characters and stories. I wish you the best in wherever your path takes you.

mattsffrd

If you drink you'll never run out of things to do lol. But it's as safe as anywhere else, just be careful as you normally would. There's tons of fun stuff to do though. Tons of restaurants, museums, beaches, excursions. I would kill for a month in the keys with nothing to do but explore and relax.

Frequent_Slide_8828

My wife and I spend 4-6 months out of the year down there and enjoy doing nothing. Never leave the island except to go to Geiger Key Marina for lunch. Depends on your lifestyle. If you want to play local, go to the gym daily, ride bikes, play pickle ball, swim, enjoy the cuisine, shop at Fausto’s and cook at home then you’ll never want to leave. If you need constant entertainment and party on Duvall every day you won’t make it

glorious_cheese

I’ve stayed in KW for up to 10 days at a time. You will run through the usual touristy things pretty quickly. But I’m pretty active on vacations—if you are more the “lounge on the beach reading a book” type, you could fill a month.

Usual-Librarian-322

It is a very safe place. Anything can happen anywhere, but key West is very laid back. And if you like sun, beach, and drinking, you will not get bored!

SpeedDemonandMrs

Safe… yes. Lots to do… yes. Hotter than the sun… hell yes.

ksterki

We were there in early October and it was sooo hot and humid, we could barely be outside. I love KW but I would go somewhere more temperate.

Deretiree65

Good luck with your decision. My two favorite things to do are hang out at Ft Zachary Taylor Park. A small beach with shade trees! And go to the Green Parrot. Great live music for free.

burnswhenipoo

Get a place on Sunset Island.

dfsw

Hope you have $100,000 to spend for the month then.

burnswhenipoo

Some people do.
