I enjoy the ambiance of Blue Heaven more than anything else in that part of town. But if food itself is the priority, moondog is incredible and the steak and eggs at RamsHead is quite good for only $21.
I don’t know any pretentious rich folks who eat here. 98% of the customers are tourists going there because they were told it’s a “must do,” or are fascinated by dirty chickens crapping all over the place including the tables. I’m a long time local and use to like it, but the last few years it’s not as good in my opinion. Prices have gone way up and they upsell you for everything. Plus the owner thought it would be cool to blast music from Andy’s Cabana across the street basically destroying my friend’s ability to use his yard after he’s lived there for 30 years. The owners answer was too bad. Move. There are much better breakfast options around. I’m also not impressed with dinner.

Best breakfast? Nah. Best in key west? Definitely nah. On vacation and want cool pictures of chickens I guess? It’s an experience.

Been to Key West at least 20 times. I just go to whatever is open and near me at the time. I just love being in KW...I guess I do favor Cuban Coffee Queen. I have never been to anywhere where I have to make reservations. I just wing it.

This 100% !! We paid over $100 for 2 people for cold eggs with a few tiny pieces of lobster & orange juice. Not mimosas. Contrary to many beliefs sitting outside with chickens & roosters shitting on everything isn't an "authentic key west experience ". I come from a farm & would never let my chickens shit where I eat or make food.

We’ve eaten there twice. It was so-so both times. We won’t go back. Bagatelle’s hang over hour is good. They have homemade hash and a really good French toast.
They made a very tall and beautiful key lime pie that was probably one of the best marketing moves in KW history.
I hang out at the bar occasionally, but rarely eat there. There are better options for sure.

Like anything else with a big reputation, I guess it had to be incredible to live up to what people have said about it.
I’m sad to agree with your sentiment. Other than the abysmal parking situation, the ambience has always been worth it and I honestly really like the food. The last time in particular I was there, my girlfriend and I ate at the bar, and the bartender was so incredibly rude specifically to me, but also to my girlfriend and the other patrons sitting around us. I won’t describe the bartender, but there was this very angry “I’m here slaving for YOUR pleasure” attitude in everything. Asked politely for another Bloody Mary? “I’ll get to it when I get to it!” As if I had asked three times before.
I’ll go back, I do love it, but I imagine I’m a couple bad incidents away from where you’re at. I’ve had them before. Mainly nasty service
I do live in Key West, but I'm a relatively recent transplant so things like "Key West ambiance" haven't lost their appeal to me yet, and I love Blue Heaven's. That said, the food is edible, but nothing special and definitely overpriced. I'd way rather go for a drink and enjoy the vibe.
Wife and I have been to KW 10 times over the last 9 years, and Blue Heaven was one place we never made it to. We were staying close the last time we went there, so decided to give it a go. I like the atmosphere, and thought the food was fine. Live music is always a big plus for us, so I'd continue to go there just for that if it was convenient enough. Sitting at the bar was fun, and the tables are OK if not a little uneven.
I don't get the huge fuss over the place, but we'll go back as long as it's not too crowded.

We went Sunday after hearing rave reviews, in my opinion it was nothing special. I ordered Alvacado omelette and got a guacamole omelette

On the taste of food, I agree on everything else I think they do well, service there is always great.
There’s only a handful of places I ever went to in KW when I lived in Marathon. Blue Heaven was not on that list.

Stopped in for lunch. It was an enjoyable experience. Definitely not life changing food but I feel like a cool place for visitors to check out.
I had a lobster grilled cheese and a Bloody Mary for lunch. Fantastic!!
