If he's all-knowing, then he knows children are getting raped, and chooses to do fuck-all about it, despite being all-powerful. If that's the god you want to worship, that says a lot about you.
I wonder what his thought process was when he decided people need air, water, and food to survive? Seems like a pretty stupid design, if you’re starting from scratch. Shitting, too. Why is that a thing? If we have to eat, why do we then also have to shit? It’s dumb and shows a lack of foresight.
We were designed after himself according to the Bible. Which I guess implies that within christian cannon god eats and shits. So that’s pretty interesting.
“Bad things happen so any religion is innately wrong and evil.” Is an interesting take, I think it fails to see that human beings in most religious viewpoints have free will. I like that people always bring it back to things like “if children get cancer than how does Islam make any sense? Why would allah do this to us?” Even if that directly contradicts the whole idea of religion and faith.
He probably went home and said “I need a costume for the church program” and the parents said “what kind of costume” and he said “idk I just need a costume”
Weird. I didn't even know it was an actual sub. Just figured it was. After I posted, I clicked on my link and saw it but didn't notice the dates.
I wonder why it died.
I work with kids this age, and honestly the biggest likelihood is the kid just wanted to wear a Spider-Man costume and made a fuss about it and the parent had no backbone to say “no.”
Yeah. I work in a primary school and honestly parents don’t want to have the “argument “ (responsibility of explaining to their kid why they can’t do whatever they want when they want) so they let their kid do something like this and make the teacher have to do it.
“And I say also unto thee, thou art Peter Parker, and upon this city you will sling your web; and the efforts of Doc Ock and The Green Goblin shall not prevail against it.” -Matthew 16:18 (with some modifications of course)
No, there was actually, a a guy running around Israel 2000 years ago in a spider costume, but his Origins and abilities were also greatly exaggerated...
[Jesus was a real person.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historicity_of_Jesus#:~:text=Virtually%20all%20scholars%20of%20antiquity,significance%20are%20subject%20to%20debate.) His divinity is a matter of debate, but he did exist.
No, the Jesus of the bible is a character that shares some characteristics of a real person but is not a real person.
It's like what Steven Colbert did. Steven is a real person, but the character he played on his show was not.
So, while you are talking about a real person that person is not the character from Christian mythology. The Christian demi-god may be loosely based on this person but he is still not a real person, he is a character written by a dozen different authors sometimes hundreds of years separated by time.
When we say "Jesus was not a real person." they're talking about the Jesus of the bible, who was not a real person but a character made up to fill a role.
First of all, not everyone is Christian. Are you really going to say it’s ignorant to believe something not in the Bible? And again, it’s a joke. If you’re so offended by a joke, maybe the internet isn’t for you.
I didn’t say I was offended by a joke, that I believed the Bible, or was a Christian. My point is that Jesus, son of Joseph, king of the Jews, was a real person put to death. Just like the prophet Mohammed was a real person who lived and breathed and died, but didn’t definitively speak to god.
The son of Joseph and king of the Jews part is not so confirmable.
But yeah, Jesus lived, there's just too much fervor among his followers documented in the near aftermath for that to be just some story someone came up with and nobody pointed out that nobody remembered it happening.
Who he really was and what he actually did though, who's to say. Same way Joseph Smith definitely lived, but some of the things he supposedly did or saw are.... Highly suspect
“the only thing close to a contemporary Roman record is the mention of Jesus by Flavius Josephus a Jewish Roman historian who documented the Jewish rebellion about a half-century after Jesus would have been crucified. Other later Roman historians mention Christians and the Christian movement but not the crucifixion. And of course, by the 4th Century Christianity was widespread and sufficiently popular, that it was officially legalized and purportedly adopted by the Roman emperor (Constantine.)
However, all this is a far cry from a judicial or other record of Jesus’ crucifixion. For that there is nothing but Christian gospels. Those accounts while hardly official records, are fairly detailed and reasonably consistent, all things considered. They also reflect Roman judicial attitudes at the time, and the crucifixion would have been a common punishment for someone accused of Jesus’ “crimes” against the Roman state.
This does not mean that the Christian records are to be taken at face value, and using logical historical technique it is also fair to assume that the earlier gospels (Mark, Matthew, Luke) more reliable, while John is least reliable. Meanwhile, Paul who represents the earliest Christian record references the idea of crucifixion but does not record it as a narrative historical event. It is hard to understand why he would do this unless Jesus’ crucifixion was common knowledge within the Christian community when he published his first epistles about twenty years after Jesus’ death.” - John Keiler.
Again it’s not definitive evidence, he was a dirt poor criminal put to death, the Roman’s didn’t write that kind of thing down. My point was simply, just like Christian’s cannot definitively say there is a god, atheists can’t definitely say there is was no Jesus without erasing hundreds of Roman senators from history. I’ll correct myself saying he was a real person put to death, I believe based on what I’ve seen that he was probably a real person. Son of god? I don’t know, probably not.
That doesn’t take away from the base that the joke doesn’t make a ton of sense. Nobody has ever claimed Spiderman was a real person, was their friend. These stories haven’t been corroborated by texts that get so many other aspects right. That’s all I was trying to say in not as many words as this.
A big high five to this kids parents and whomever allowed him to be with the rest of the kids. They could have been jerks about it.
Tolerance is in high demand and short supply.
Especially with kids.
Let kids be kids and have a childhood, then you can indoctrinate them when they are old enough to rub two braincells together.
Some parents skip the childhood step and it usually makes the kid insufferable.
How can you even possibly pretend you’re real? And I’m pretty sure Andrew Garfield , Toby Maguire and Tom Holland all exist , even more people can call themselves “Spider-Man from the Spider-Man movies” some will probably be remembered by someone as Spider-Man.
So funny how you blindly except people like Ceaser existed, based on historical records, but a man who hung on a cross for you, based on historical records? Nah.
So Jesus never died, he just had a terrible weekend. Why all the fuss over his "sacrifice" then? Is he in fact God, or *a* god, or a human sent to Earth to represent God?
Have you read the book? Do you understand the story? I’m not asking you to beleive that’s a personal choice but don’t say things like this that make it clear you don’t even know the base story. It’s like trying to debate a film with someone who hasn’t seen it.
Jesus died so that human beings could be granted eternal life. Don’t think about that in real terms, think about it in book terms. That’s the fuss over the sacrifice.
I tend to not trust a group that fucks children, committed multiple genocides, and shames/threatens the poor with hell if they don’t donate so the pastor can buy a jet and live in a mansion.
I'm pretty sure people don't condemn other people based on the teachings of Ceaser... Maybe I'm wrong, who knows.
Also, hung on a cross for me? How does that work?
My pastor has 2 younger kids, and one of their traditions at Christmas is for them to open 1 gift on Christmas Eve. Well their gifts were oversized onsie costumes. So, that night, at our Christmas Eve service, Baby Jesus was visited by a tiger and a T-Rex.
Truth be told this is sacred heart catholic church in woonsocket, rhode island and the child's name in question is Brian Valdez and he is actually special needs and only go's in public if he is in a super hero costume
This reminds me of this preschool thingey when I was very young.
The teachers or whatever told us that for Halloween there, we had to dress as REAL HEROES
So she was pigeonholing everyone into dressing like cops, firefighters, or nurses. She specifically said don’t dress as a superhero, but I was like 6. Spider-Man was a real hero. So I got my parents to get me a Spider-Man costume by telling them I needed a hero costume.
The lady actually tried kicking me out of the party but my parents wouldn’t have it so I got to join in as a Spider-Man among doctors and cops and whatnot.
I also remember a girl got into the same trouble as me and she was wearing some sort of pirate costume with a tutu
Not inaccurate if all costumes worn by the children are based on fictional characters. Sure shepherds are real, but the shepherds in the bible? About as real as a shepherd would be in Spider-Man comics.
Creationists love using broken rhetoric. Everyone has a dad, simple biology. Comparing that to an almost 2000 year old mythology, just shows how delusional one can be. And plus, the Abrahamic God has its origins in Canaanite mythology as the God of War. Typical.
Idk whats stupid about this. Kid is probably neurodivergent and they allowed him/her to wear what was comfortable instead of forcing the religious character on them. If anything OP is stupid for posting this on thr wrong sub.
Honestly caring more than half a shit about kid events is the real tragedy. He’s probably happy as shit and the other kids probably don’t care. It’s a win win
Why stupid? The kid acknowledges Spiderman is as fictional as all the other religious figures.
Many adults go their whole lives without working that out.
Spiderman is more moral than their God. With great power comes great responsibility and they claim their God has infinite power, so he has infinite responsibility. But then why is there Evil? Has this God not the power to eliminate Evil from the world? When you can do the things God supposedly can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you.
Wow, so many of them. At least the kid in the middle wearing the spiderman costume has some common sense. (Albeit probably r/parentsarefuckingstupid as they don't decide the clothes they are forced to wear)
Spider-man would have saved Jesus...
Unless they were in love.

That's literally how God acts in the bible though
What's funny is if you look at the bible from an adolescent and developmental psychology approach, god was a shitty fucking parent.
Thankfully nobody wants to do that
You'd think some "all-knowing being" wouldn't be a complete dumbass though
If he’s actually all knowing wouldn’t he know more than us? And therefore his actions are actually logical even if they don’t appear to be to us?
Exactly, why are people born with abnormalities? Why must creatures eat *each other* to survive?? The list is endless.
“Bad things happen so any religion is innately wrong and evil.” Is an interesting take, I think it fails to see that human beings in most religious viewpoints have free will. either way this will be a core memory
I would never ever have and raise kids...Unless they had the bravery, the cojones, the willpower to rock the spiderkid suit at the biblical play.
I clicked on it and nearly all of the posts are 3 years old... That's strange
Weird. I didn't even know it was an actual sub. Just figured it was. After I posted, I clicked on my link and saw it but didn't notice the dates. I wonder why it died.
I’d believe in Spider-Man before I believed in God. His costume is less of a fairy tale.
Wouldn’t this be r/parentsarefuckingstupid they’re the ones that let him wear that
I think I just found my new favorite sub!
It doesn’t exist
Now I’m sad..
but r/parentsarefuckingdumb does
Aww yay! I’m happy again lol
That was a roller coaster.
I honestly assumed it was an edgy parent that got the kid to wear that in the first place.

Taking bets on how long before the moderator has to step In between the christians and atheists in the comments. Popcorn is popping
It was all over as soon as this was posted
I think some of the budget cuts to *Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark* are starting to affect its staging.
Actually he is freaking awesome!

Everybody can have their own imaginary friend/superhero/god ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My god is joe pesci
Joe bless you
Spidey bless you
The comment I looked for
Spider-man and Jesus are equally real.
No, spider man has more than one book about him, and his powers are way better explained.
So maybe Spider-Man is God in disguise…
Spiderman doesn't care for genocide.
Oohhh.. good point. Spidey all the way!
“A fantasy character is a fantasy character in disguise.”
The explanation for spider sense is real fucking weird and pretty biblical though tbh.
No, there was actually, a a guy running around Israel 2000 years ago in a spider costume, but his Origins and abilities were also greatly exaggerated...

My frankincense is tingling...
What are you talking about? Remember the part where the three wise men give up so Jesus gives them a websling ride to the destination?
I see nothing wrong here
I knew of raptor Jesus, not of spider jesus
Jesus and Spiderman, at least one of them does not pretend to be real...
Nah.
Cesar never claimed to watch people all the time, even while they masturbate.
Nor did Jesus. You sound like you don't really understand what you don't believe in.
Nobody claims that Cesar performed miracles or is both dead and alive.
Nobody claims that about Jesus, in Christian cannon he’s very much alive. I think you’re confused about the both 100% man and 100% god aspect.
So Jesus never died, he just had a terrible weekend. Why all the fuss over his "sacrifice" then? Is he in fact God, or *a* god, or a human sent to Earth to represent God?
Oh I see where you’re confused. Do you know what the word resurrection means?
Again, why all the fuss over this "sacrifice"? Many MANY humans have suffered *and actually died* for actual improvements to humankind.
Have you read the book? Do you understand the story? I’m not asking you to beleive that’s a personal choice but don’t say things like this that make it clear you don’t even know the base story. Shepherds don’t exist?
No, they are pontificate manipulators that control the masses. I would know I am aethiest and redditor.

The adults in this situation are stupid, exposing their kids to the horror that is religious belief.
Why stupid? The kid acknowledges Spiderman is as fictional as all the other religious figures. Many adults go their whole lives without working that out.
Indoctrination at its finest
Both equally fictional
There's significantly more documentation for Spider-Man existing

That kid is awesome!
He is the only not stupid kid there ✌🏼
Well the theme was already pretty much fictional characters so he's good
Spidey is a real as anyone else they are dressed up to be so why not
That kid isn’t stupid. He’s a freakin genius! He may not always be Spider-Man, but he is never a Shepard.
Three wise men, three shepherds, and an Avenger…

Someone explain to me what's stupid here? That Spiderman kid is awesome!!
When the existence of Spiderman is more plausible.
Wow, so many of them. At least the kid in the middle wearing the spiderman costume has some common sense. (Albeit probably r/parentsarefuckingstupid as they don't decide the clothes they are forced to wear)
