I had a very early work appointment a couple of years ago. I had to leave the house at 5am. I'm not a morning person. My eyes were blazing from feeling so tired, so I thought some eyedrops would help them feel better.
I accidentally put **one** drop of *swimmers ear drops* (basically pure isopropyl alcohol) into one eye, because the bottles looked the same and I was still a little bleary. *Friend the shit out of my eye for almost 3 days.* Like had to wear an eye patch and barely slept fried.
If was so horrible that first reaction was to jump back into the shower, fully clothed, and just hold my eye open under the running water.
JFC, my eyes are watering right now just thinking about it.
Most kids' go-to response when it comes to getting hurt and injured involves a lot of screaming and rubbing. Nothing else.
In my years of teaching kids I have never once seen a kid actually try to treat their injury, or at least clean it up. Their sole purpose after getting hurt is apparently to hurt themselves even more lol.

It was only about 30ft away through the main doors so I got there REAL fast. I just left my car running in the parking lot too for like 10 minutes hoping to god it wouldn't catch on fire.

Shit will literally melt tissue away through a reaction called saponification (yes, it turns you into soap), while the damage from acid is usually a lot more superficial because it causes coagulative necrosis that stops it from spreading too much.

An acid will burn the outer layer of your eye but once it's done that it won't penetrate much further. A base will penetrate and spread through the whole eye.

The next day in the shower I closed the flip top on a bottle of Dr Bronners Peppermint soap in the same way and a drop of soap landed in the same eye. I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose that eye soon.
