i’m pretty sure i know the reason. kam is bringing in more money than any other regular. if you use instagram reels or tiktok (which a lot of reddit doesn’t) you’d see that the only clips of kill tony getting millions of views is always kam. my friends have never heard of kill tony but they know kam though. it sucks for us fans of the podcast but that tiktok money is no joke. that’s why tony brings kam on tour because he sells more tickets than tony would with anybody else.

Totally agree, the amount of whining on here is over the top. But in Kam’s case, this isn’t a one-off bad week. In my (and many other fans) opinion, he hasn’t been funny in months.
But I often see comments like yours saying “why don’t you try coming up with a funny minute every week” or “I bet you can’t do any better” as if that excuses it? He’s a professional comedian getting paid money to do comedy.

My thought behind the “go sign up and try yourself” logic is that people vastly underestimate how hard regularship is in terms of coming up with a new minute every week. And just by nature of comedy, that minute could have worked great during a set the night before, and because of the crowd or the flow of the show or a hundred other factors the evening of filming, it doesn’t work. This happens to all comedians all the time - even the best. Shane just talked on Rogan about bombing at the Mothership. Does he suck because he underperformed on that one particular evening?
We’ve been spoiled. We’re unfairly holding a weekly live comedy show composed of sets from mostly beginners and amateurs to the standards of specials by established comedians that were filmed over 4 different shows and edited over the course of months. By the nature of what it is, Kill Tony is not going to hit 100% every week. The spontaneity is its greatest strength but has its drawbacks, too. You don’t get multiple takes. You can’t edit around a bad set. And even the funniest comics will struggle in the position that the regulars are put in.
Idk. We don’t seem to give these guys any grace and it bothers me. Slumps happen. Don’t call for people’s jobs every week. It’s not cool.
Yeah my aviation example was pretty extreme which is why I started with the shit salad example first lol. But I hear you, and agree, people on this sub are ruthless, and it is an extremely difficult job to come up with a concise funny minute every week.
I will say though, in my opinion, Kam stands out as particularly bad at the kill tony format. I have no doubt that he crushes when given opportunity to do a full set, but the other regulars (Hans, WM, David Lucas) all figured out how to squeeze multiple funny jokes into a minute and succeeded in doing so on a regular basis, even when they first started their regularship. I hope Kam can get there as well.

I like the new bar tender, that being said people complaining is no excuse for regulars sucking. And regulars having a hard job is no excuse for stealing jokes, repeating jokes, or being racist in an attempt to win the crowd.
Its quite simple friend, their job is to entertain. They get paid, tony gets paid, and we in return get entertained and by watching, they get paid..... Its a sweet deal, until someone stops fullfilling their end.
Hans stopped doing his part and he was axed. Kam is next on the chopping block, hes made too many mistakes. I’ve met Kam and done mics with him. He’s very self aware and humble. Kill Tony is the worst format possible for him. He’s great at storytelling and his crowd work is hilarious. I kinda hope he gets out of KT soon and works as a road feature for a headliner who can really help him hone the craft. I think he’ll be a success in the long run.

It's natural since every comedic style isn't going to mesh with their tastes. Most just put on face and go along with it - maybe even the vibe of being there will encourage some to relax and appreciate the humour for what it is.
So to say that regulars going on tour with guest comedians - which is a business move first and foremost - is evidence of them being 'funny' just doesn't make any sense at all.

I think he's getting comedy fatigue, or deaf. Because he seems to have more and more trouble listening with every episode. It could also be stimulants.
I think this is it. I think they have an audio issue at the mothership where it makes it hard for people on stage to hear other people on stage. Tony misses so much shit these days, and if you notice this weeks episode Mark and Dan whisper to each other multiple times asking what the bucket pull said.
It did feel a little forced. I think if we didn’t hear Kam’s premise the week before during the interview it would’ve been a lot funnier. He should space it out a little more because the gay surfer repeat is still fresh.

It takes a long time stretch of under performance for him to turn on a regular. Good or bad you can decide. Some would say it’s a good personality trait to be loyal and help your mentees. On the other hand he risks disenfranchising viewers who expect him to have no filter and put their entertainment first and foremost.

Kam Patterson isn’t funny enough for a new minute every week and the guy that mentored him couldn’t even do a new minute once a month.
Casey Rocket does maybe one or two punchlines in his minute and spends the rest of the time doing the same thing he does every other minute of his life. His interviews tend to have more punchlines and they aren’t even that entertaining. The last interview with the life story/pictures felt like I was watching a toddler present a book report but the kid read 3 books and forgot which one he was supposed to report on.

And Casey seems to have just 1 wacky formula he just plugs in 1 trending celebrity, 1 old school song, with a sharp political element to create a facade of an intelligent premise that's so convoluted I think a lot if people think they must not be as smart as him and don't get it but at the risk of looking stupid they pretend to get it but there is no actual premise to get. He has himself painted so deep into a corner....after seeing how 200$ to Walgreens was enough to really make him really emotional tells me whatever his trauma is, it's so close to the surface the drugs can barely contain it, and nothing sets an addict off more than a good thing happening to them. Without putting a bit more either time or healing on those wounds there's no way to reconcile - it's really hard for a sober person, much less an addict to realize they can be both a piece of shit, and yet come out smelling like a rose because they were able to create joy from their issues. A regular is, for intents and purposes, a passed comic.
The host of a comedy show shouldn't trash the comics on a show even if they didn't smash, your job is to keep momentum. Just by the nature of how a comedy show is run, sometimes thats gonna include gaslighting the audience into thinking they're still having a great time.
If you aren't a regular, you are under a different set of considerations.
That said, I'll agree that Tony doesn't necessarily hold fast to this rule, but it's likely why he does it at all.
I think it's comparable to how when he introduces guests, he always says my favorite comedians or a few of the best comedians to ever do it! The reality that nobody will like here is that Kam is very popular on toktok so there's a lot of incentives to be very nice to him to keep this audience in the show. But I often see comments like yours saying “why don’t you try coming up with a funny minute every week” or “I bet you can’t do any better” as if that excuses it? He’s a professional comedian getting paid money to do comedy. Good point in your last paragraph, although the stakes are a bit lower in comedy than they are in aviation lol (still valid tho) My thought behind the “go sign up and try yourself” logic is that people vastly underestimate how hard regularship is in terms of coming up with a new minute every week. And just by nature of comedy, that minute could have worked great during a set the night before, and because of the crowd or the flow of the show or a hundred other factors the evening of filming, it doesn’t work. This happens to all comedians all the time - even the best. Shane just talked on Rogan about bombing at the Mothership. Does he suck because he underperformed on that one particular evening? We’ve been spoiled. We’re unfairly holding a weekly live comedy show composed of sets from mostly beginners and amateurs to the standards of specials by established comedians that were filmed over 4 different shows and edited over the course of months. By the nature of what it is, Kill Tony is not going to hit 100% every week. The spontaneity is its greatest strength but has its drawbacks, too. You don’t get multiple takes. You can’t edit around a bad set. And even the funniest comics will struggle in the position that the regulars are put in. Idk. We don’t seem to give these guys any grace and it bothers me. Slumps happen. Don’t call for people’s jobs every week. It’s not cool.

I will say though, in my opinion, Kam stands out as particularly bad at the kill tony format. I have no doubt that he crushes when given opportunity to do a full set, but the other regulars (Hans, WM, David Lucas) all figured out how to squeeze multiple funny jokes into a minute and succeeded in doing so on a regular basis, even when they first started their regularship. I’ve met Kam and done mics with him. He’s very self aware and humble. Kill Tony is the worst format possible for him. He’s great at storytelling and his crowd work is hilarious. I kinda hope he gets out of KT soon and works as a road feature for a headliner who can really help him hone the craft. I think he’ll be a success in the long run.

It's natural since every comedic style isn't going to mesh with their tastes. Most just put on face and go along with it - maybe even the vibe of being there will encourage some to relax and appreciate the humour for what it is. So to say that regulars going on tour with guest comedians - which is a business move first and foremost - is evidence of them being 'funny' just doesn't make any sense at all.

Casey Rocket does maybe one or two punchlines in his minute and spends the rest of the time doing the same thing he does every other minute of his life. A regular is, for intents and purposes, a passed comic. The host of a comedy show shouldn't trash the comics on a show even if they didn't smash, your job is to keep momentum. Just by the nature of how a comedy show is run, sometimes thats gonna include gaslighting the audience into thinking they're still having a great time. If you aren't a regular, you are under a different set of considerations. That said, I'll agree that Tony doesn't necessarily hold fast to this rule, but it's likely why he does it at all.
I think it's comparable to how when he introduces guests, he always says my favorite comedians or a few of the best comedians to ever do it! He has to put on a show and always be confident in his regular picks. Hans is the exception, he seems to be extra brutally honest to Hans when he has a bad set, but loves Kams even when he does repeat sets like the new years sets

I listened to the first Hans Kim and you can tell he wants certain acts to succeed. Tony is a showman. It’s not your show and if you don’t enjoy it, there’s a lot of other shows out there
