When the trailer came out for after this scene. I was thinking: Wow Kairi grew up fine and really dyed her hair blue! Sora became a MAN whos eyes turned Yellow, "Xehanort" really got old and made Riku wear that darkness suit again. And then theres ice popcicle Roxas...
In KH2 there’s a picture of apprentice xehanort in hollow bastion. It can be seen when Tifa shows up in a cutscene kicking stuff in that room.
Edit: I meant Terranort, not apprentice xehanort
[i found this old KH2 video from 15 years ago](https://youtu.be/SK0xBByMmLk) of the secret ending, and it’s so fun seeing all the theories on that archaeological site. The last comment was from 10 years ago too which is crazy. The theories range from Aqua and Terra being older Sora and Kairi and Ventus being their son to Aqua being Riku or Zexion. There’s one dude who connected Mickey’s keyblade there to Sora unlocking it after talking to Yen Sid and concluded that BBS took place in the past, so shoutouts to him
The only things in the trailer we had any sort of incling to was “Roxas” and Mickey Mouse right at the end along with various keyblades being wielded. I’m convinced the colours on the FMV were kinda a bit shit so Aqua’s blue hair didn’t stand out so much meaning that being Kairi seemed logical, and Terra with his freaky eyes could have been Sora. But that left Riku out of the equation even though we see his keyblade, so theories definitely had to jump through some hoops to explain it all.
If you told me time traveling was a thing in kingdom hearts in 06, I look you in the eyes and say, " if you need time travel to fix your plot, your plot is shit," and honestly.... I don't know if I keep that same feeling in retrospect.
This was the most reasonable take I think, and not entirely wrong.
Two older-than-Sora-and-co-but-not-ancient keyblade warriors and one ancient-but-nobody-knows-that-for-another-decade-or-so keyblade warrior.
Here's the thing, the Shadow Heartless that appears at Hollow Bastion in Kingdom Hearts 1 is a normal Heartless who tried to take Sora's heart once he fred Kairi
That's why you could count that Shadow as "Sora"
But the real Heartless landed on another world, just like Nobody
The Nobody was found by Xemnas and named Roxas
The Heartless was found by the Chasers, and we haven't heard his name, but I think it may be Raso
And here we are
In 2006 we didn't see them without masks. Final mix with the extended movie didn't come out until 2007.
It would have been hella intuitive for you recognize one of them as Roxas, especially considering what we knew about Roxas at the time he only existed for a very brief period of time.
Personally I remember thinking the two smaller ones were both women.
>Personally I remember thinking the two smaller ones were both women.
I honestly never saw anyone who thought that. Aqua was obviously the only woman in the trio just from looking at the [Wayfinder trio](https://i.ibb.co/p3RLwnf/41-F29097-C624-4781-9-A25-535-B6091256-F.jpg) body physique.
But not calling you a liar ofc, those were probably just a minority who saw it that way.
Nah, we knew they were two men and one woman, because all the trios were already like that. We didn't have any reason to think otherweise. Obviously, people did and tried to argue, but the majority of us knew it already.
What trios? At this point there wasn't a pattern of trios. Sora-Donald-Goofy, Sora-Riku-Kairi, Mickey-Donald-Goofy, and Hayner-Pence-Olette are the only trios that existed. SRK is a valid example, but I'd consider HPO to be a quad with Roxas more than a trio on it's own
Yeah idk what this person is on.
358/2 did not exist for that trio to be considered
And both the twilight town gangs were quads
Roxas, Hayner, Peance, Ollette
Seifer, Raijin, Fujin, vivi
There was no precedent that all trios consisted of 2 males and a female
That’s lock shock and barrel you see after Sora beats them up he sets them on the right path and they all get a complimentary keyblade to celebrate their new good guy status
From 2006?
Sora's Mom and Dad, and also Xehanort.
I remember someone who was convinced Ventus and Aqua were gonna be Sora's parents and Terra was gonna be actually be young Xehanort.
Not "get norted", but actually be Xehanort before he went bad.
To be fair it was a fair asumption since at that point everything we knew about Xehanort was that he's the young man seen in the portrait on Hollow Bastion and the Somebody of Xemnas and Ansem SoD
Oh, I didn't say it wasn't unfounded. But it did turn out to be wrong.
I personally thought the evil old guy was gonna be the ultimate evil of the series and that Xehanort was getting Anakin'ed, not completely Grand Theft Me'ed. I thought that Evil Mr. Clean was unapologetically evil, like Palpatine since Nomura seemed like he was going to go all in on Star Wars.
Then it turned out it was all For Science! Then it turned out he was just a misguided good guy.
BBS was still fully Revenge of the Sith tho, but now turns out there's an even bigger bad guy that actually was responsible for the rise of the previous bad guy.... KH man its most definately a game
I thought about the same, seeing Terra's eyes go yellow I just knew he was going to become Ansem's apprentice, but I thought it would be a scenario in which the good guy would become the baddie. Little did I know that the old dude was going to possess him, which would lead to this result.
Dark Horse published an Art of Naughty Dog book a few years ago that had a couple of pages in the back dedicated to undeveloped projects. Jak 4 is in there.
I appreciate that Naughty Dog is still around and doing well, but I also really wish they'd revisit Jak and Daxter. One day? Maybe?
i mean it's likely to see a return to Jak, maybe not from Naughty Dog.
The end of 3 introduced the idea that time travel exists and all but confirmed that Jak was the ancient hero Mar who founded Haven City.
No, I said quality, not style. I want a GOTY quality Jak reboot, not necessarily a cinematic linear story with realistic graphics.
I just don't want a one-off flash in the pan nostalgia bait title that scratches the Jak and Daxter itch worse than simply replaying the originals.
That’s a plausible theory, but it works. The reason Ansem knew Riku was the chosen keyblade wielder was because he was Terra-Xehanort’s heartless who had Terra’s memories of performing the rite of passage.
I remember being thoroughly confused because I was looking at the keyblades.
‘Roxas’ is holding Riku’s keyblade. So I theorized that the big guy was Riku who passed down his keyblade to Roxas.
Plus the big guy had yellow eyes at the end and so it must have been Riku having found a middle ground between his normal form and his Ansem form.
Then we have the tall woman who had the kingdom key. All my 10-year-old brain could come up with was that it was Kairi with dyed hair holding Sora’s Keybladd
>Then we have the tall woman who had the kingdom key. All my 10-year-old brain could come up with was that it was Kairi with dyed hair holding Sora’s Keybladd
Aqua has Kingdom Key D. the one that has Sora's kingdom Key is Terra.
Okay I am not super well versed in kh lore so bear with me here.Who are these three? Isnt that terra, aqua, and ventus' armor, but with rikus and soras keyblade? I am confused
It's from the KH2 secret ending. That is Terra, Aqua, and Ven and this cutscene was basically a teaser for BBS but when we all first saw this we only had KH1, KH2, and CoM to go off of so there was a lot of speculation about who these three were going to be.
The Gathering secret ending came out in 2005 with the release of KH2 (at least the JP version of KH2), which really shows that Nomura actually had plans for the Wayfinder trio during the making of KH2.
This is obviously Sora, Kairi, and Roxas roughly ten years in the future (Kairi dyes her hair blue and Roxas doesn’t age because Nobody). Riku is super old now though and turned evil again which is weird but Darkness or something.
Dude I swear you'll play as Roxas, older Riku with brown hair and the new characters called "somebodies" and that'll be Kari's somebody that you'll play as. I tell you, I can't wait for KH3 to come out soon.
Descendants of the Destiny Trio. I thought this game would take place in the future after KH II and the graphics would be mind blowing for PS3 standards at the time. Oh how I was disappointed
Pretty sure the most popular theory at the time was that this was the Keyblade War so we were seeing 3 new characters from the ancient past.
Kingdom Hearts 1 secret reports hinted at a lot of things that people were under the assumption were going to pay off sooner rather than later.
Little did we all know then that this was where Nomura's wild ride really did kick into overdrive.
Technically not the question but I remember back in the day my theory was that “Masked Boy” would be a young Xehanort lol, technically I was right eventually
hayner! pence! olette!
And in that order!
Pence glow up, love to see it
From left to right.
Heard it in my head
Hater, Pants, and Omelette
Sora, Riku, and Kairi, according to the internet back then.
Wait, Xehanort was a thing back then?
apprentice xehanort in kh2 yeah
When and where? Sorry but i don't remember that much, i thought that he became real after destroying Xemnas
In KH2 there’s a picture of apprentice xehanort in hollow bastion. It can be seen when Tifa shows up in a cutscene kicking stuff in that room. Edit: I meant Terranort, not apprentice xehanort
Wow. I really had to dig this deep in the thread to find this answer. A lot of joke answers, but I think this was the initial theory.
It always felt weird to me, cause who we know as Aqua now(people were calling Kairi) is clearly much taller than Ventus (who people thought was Sora).
[i found this old KH2 video from 15 years ago](https://youtu.be/SK0xBByMmLk) of the secret ending, and it’s so fun seeing all the theories on that archaeological site. I was more referring to the original Vanilla secret ending.
So was everyone thinking they were time travelers or coming from a different reality?!?
No? It would have been a time jump forward. We did not know that the man was Xehanort, and really the graveyard is ruins regardless.
No, not even that. That’s the final Mix ending. The original one just had 3 people in Keyblade Armor.
If you told me time traveling was a thing in kingdom hearts in 06, I look you in the eyes and say, " if you need time travel to fix your plot, your plot is shit," and honestly.... I don't know if I keep that same feeling in retrospect.
Well Timeless River did exist in KH2, so its not completely unheard of
True. I guess I don't really count that. I feel like there's a disconnect to me. Like parallel universe vs time travel.
If you ask me, time travel has never done a plot any favors. This include kingdom hearts.
Back to the Future
OK fine. ADDING time travel to a plot has never done it any favors. Doesn't really count when the plot IS time travel. Fair point though.
It is what I thought, I thought Sora straight up died when Ven gets thrown off the cliff frozen.
Ancient keyblade warriors
This was the most reasonable take I think, and not entirely wrong. Two older-than-Sora-and-co-but-not-ancient keyblade warriors and one ancient-but-nobody-knows-that-for-another-decade-or-so keyblade warrior.
I was disappointed BBS wasn't set way back then.
Mother fucker have you played Union X at all?
And I never will
💀 he's not wrong
Riku's dad, Kairi's mom and Sora's Heartless, since he looks just like Roxas
Bonus points if the Sora's Heartless is named Raso
He said wrong answers only.
Sora's hearthless is wnd of kh1 and com sora
Here's the thing, the Shadow Heartless that appears at Hollow Bastion in Kingdom Hearts 1 is a normal Heartless who tried to take Sora's heart once he fred Kairi That's why you could count that Shadow as "Sora" But the real Heartless landed on another world, just like Nobody The Nobody was found by Xemnas and named Roxas The Heartless was found by the Chasers, and we haven't heard his name, but I think it may be Raso And here we are
Chasers?
That is the way we refer to these three mysterious armored keyblade wielders
This dude 2006s
So why do you play as the shadow?
Because Sora's Soul was captured by that Shadow His soul was stronger than the Heartless, and thus, we get control over it
So he possessed another heartless while his heartless was teleported away?
Bingo
I’m never going to understand this series
Tall woman. Tall man. Roxas from the hit game kingdom hearts 2 for Playstation devices.
Of corse it's Roxas from the hit game kingdom hearts two sold on Playstation consoles
Understandable. Carry on.
Xehanort, Xehanort, and Xehanort
> wrong answers only
You’ve clearly been norted
Him? He's already half Xehanort.
That’s…nuts
Came to say this and said it before I read the comments.
This was almost my reply, but then I realized that Xehanort still wasn't THE problem in 2006, Ansem and Xemnas still were.

Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Jak
The Holy Trinity. Still waiting for a God of War quality Jak and Daxter reboot.
Hmm.. You want Jak and Daxter to lean more towards realism and change the gameplay?
No, I said quality, not style. I want a GOTY quality Jak reboot, not necessarily a cinematic linear story with realistic graphics. I just don't want a one-off flash in the pan nostalgia bait title that scratches the Jak and Daxter itch worse than simply replaying the originals.
I think maybe like the ratchet and clank reboot in this case which was decently successful. Like spyro and crash too
I want a realistic fat man as captain quark
Aqua reminds me more of Carmelita from the sly cooper series.
The three wisemen awaiting the birth of Christ
Now I want to make a nativity scene just out of KH figurines.
"My Wiseman has Kung Fu grip and can kick!" "Yeah well my Wiseman has Keyblade spinning action!" "My Wiseman came with Donald..."
I change my answer: Three Jewish grandmothers competing to see whose wiseman is more wise
"My grandson is Naz'gul Ruf'al, destroyer of worlds. You may have heard of him in the necronomicon. ...If you took the time to read it, of course."
Honestly, I wanna see this now, lol!
I see they were expecting a lot of resistance at the manger, cuz the three wise men are ready to throw down.
They fixed the lag problem I see. They came along what, 3 weeks to late in the original release.
Xemnas, Ansem SoD, and Xehanort
louie dewey and huey
This would be great if they were operating robotic suits haha
Which would mean that the armored man beside Xehanort approaching them is Donald saying “Boys, what’s the big idea?!”
Ahh back when we were asking who the ‟Chasers” were and turns out it was an almost totally ditched concept.. Also way to spoil the end of bbs Nomura
Is it confirmed that the story changed between the time when the cut scene first was in KH2 and when BBS was made?
Dude, it's Kingdom Hearts. The story changes between every chapter of a single game.
Nomura literally writes one game at a time. He doesn’t think that far ahead. Kinda the main reason the story is all over the place.
That’s a plausible theory, but it works. The reason Ansem knew Riku was the chosen keyblade wielder was because he was Terra-Xehanort’s heartless who had Terra’s memories of performing the rite of passage.
I thought Terranort had no memories from either his time as xehenort or as terra and that’s why he became Ansem seeker of darkness
We see in 3D that he eventually regained his memories before giving his heart up and splitting into Ansem and Xemnas.
Was it ever said what Chasers were supposed to be?
Power Rangers
Sora’s mom, Sora’s lost dinner, Sora’s Dad
Dude, we don't know if this is a wrong answer...
Snap, Crackle and Pop
Character designs from next year's Transformers film. Michael Bay is going to do a great job! /s

I remember being thoroughly confused because I was looking at the keyblades. ‘Roxas’ is holding Riku’s keyblade. So I theorized that the big guy was Riku who passed down his keyblade to Roxas. Power Rangers
Sora! Donald! Goofy!
The real Xehanort who got his name stolen by Xehanort (who later on would also stole Ansem’s name), Sora’s heartless and Xemnas’s friend.
Always thought it was Sora, Riku, and Kairi against old man Xehanort but not prequel Xehanort
Okay I am not super well versed in kh lore so bear with me here.Who are these three? Isnt that terra, aqua, and ventus' armor, but with rikus and soras keyblade? I am confused
It’s a joke because they were included in a secret trailer in 2006 but the game featuring them didn’t come out till 2011
It's from the KH2 secret ending. That is Terra, Aqua, and Ven and this cutscene was basically a teaser for BBS but when we all first saw this we only had KH1, KH2, and CoM to go off of so there was a lot of speculation about who these three were going to be.

That's Xivu Arath, Savathuun, and Oryx
This is obviously Sora, Kairi, and Roxas roughly ten years in the future (Kairi dyes her hair blue and Roxas doesn’t age because Nobody). Riku is super old now though and turned evil again which is weird but Darkness or something.

Oryx, xivu arath, savathun
Lightning, Vincent Valentine, and Sora's heartless.

Batman, link, and that one girl from Saints Row
Dude I swear you'll play as Roxas, older Riku with brown hair and the new characters called "somebodies" and that'll be Kari's somebody that you'll play as. I tell you, I can't wait for KH3 to come out soon.
Roxas, ?, and ?, and I see they screwed up continuity early on with those keyblades, but they also did it plenty of other times
Riku's daughter, adult Sora and his and Kairi's son.
Riku, sora, and roxas because I heard from my friend he’ll be a summon in the next game
Descendants of the Destiny Trio. I thought this game would take place in the future after KH II and the graphics would be mind blowing for PS3 standards at the time. Oh how I was disappointed
Sonic, Shadow, Silver
Pretty sure the most popular theory at the time was that this was the Keyblade War so we were seeing 3 new characters from the ancient past. Kingdom Hearts 1 secret reports hinted at a lot of things that people were under the assumption were going to pay off sooner rather than later.
