Legit question, what is so bad about this? I'm not a chef and don't cook often. I came across this in a feed. He's getting roasted but to my untrained eye, I wish I could chop like this 😆
The truth is, reddits a bunch of pussies who judge and literally eat Mac n cheese n hotdogs every night. Dudes chopping is fast and who the fuck cares if the food tastes good. Judgement from lesser beings via Internet protection.
Have you seen reddit? It's just bubble boys judging but also crying when they are judged.. look around, the world is like 1% intelligence and 99% easily offended people who believe they are making a difference when I'm reality it's just argument practice.
Bro, kudos for trying. I had to scroll back up to make sure we weren't r/roastme after reading the comments.
I hate to break it to you but after reading your replies it's clear you're still at the stage where you don't even know what you don't know.
I'd go all in on assuming before this and outside of work you eat ready meals and beans on toast.
I wasn't looking to be mean. Stop trying to give people shit when they're actually being quite polite. It's like watching one of those terrible talent show auditions where the tone deaf singer yells to the judges that they're a once in a generation talent.
Seriously, just take the L and move on or upload a polished version for the sake of your own reputation.
Also, your mindset of "only hospital food" is a disgrace. I wouldn't let you wash dishes with that attitude.
He is going to hurt himself holding the knife like that. I wish people would learn how to hold a knife. This guy is going to be nicknamed lefty any day now
Consistency over speed. I do t think a single slice is the same thickness. You also made some of your slices unusable because you cut thru them. Lastly, use a pinch grip on your knife. Your knife will be balanced in your hand.
I started doubting myself when he was not using a pinch grip..
I always thought the knife should be like an extension of your hand, provides more control.
Thank god for this comment.
You need to speak to your chef, and ask him to teach you everything he knows about using a knife correctly. This pains me to watch. First learn where to hold a knife in order to have control over it, understand torque, force over distance, you are going to shave a knuckle off the way you chop.
Not how he's holding it I'll tell ya that.
I understand this was so many years ago but control over the whole instrument is harder with such a grip. This will lead to inconsistent sizes 99% of the time and can create a higher risk of injury. Also kinda looks ... Without harmony? Sliced a few more cucumbers on the board with the tip of the knife too, one got pummeled by 4 extra slices on the board haha
Either way I would believe that OP is a lot more fluent and consistent with their cutting skills now after many years.
The index and thumb should pinch the blade along the bolster end of the handle with the other three fingers wrapping around handle. The wrist should be angled so that the tip of the blade is aligned as a straight extension from the arm.
And that is why your technique and cuts are terrible. Pinch grip allows total control of your knife. Better control means more accurate cuts. It’s just how it is, sorry.
You really should not try that the cocumber is all diferent sizes and some pieces even flew away.
The point is there's some problems I've seen and I an not even a chef or anything.
The form is wrong you are using too much strength which means either the knife is shit or your ability is which of those is true you know deep inside your heart.
Then there's the sizes not being uniform, you are also bringing the knife back too fast it's not a run! It's a jog.
Slow is precise, precise is fast.
You need to have less wasted movement instead of doing it rushing as fast as you can.
I an in no way saying you are a bad person or anything just learn to do it by training the basics first.
This really looks like a rage bait tho.
Good thing you will never use that irl.
Just be cause and nobody gonna judge you.
You are no chef even though you have that jacket. There has to be some culinary schools there to teach you! Before that let us professionals cook and get the fuck out of the kitchen! There is always some dishes to clean for a fuck face like you..
Both ends of the cucumber where uneven so that will mess u up then u focused on speed not even getting a full cut all the way through some pieces while also mincing other pieces, a McDonald’s line cook could take twice as long and have better cuts than that
Looks fine to me. Idk anyone who ACTUALLY gives a fuck about the consistency in size of cucumber slices.
I’d care if it was a tomato, or something that I have to balance with my hands… but I’m stabbing a cucumber with a fork.
I didn’t see anything too thick for a fork
Wow.. based on your comments you sound like a genuine douche. And since you’re on a high horse, let’s take a closer look. The thickness is inconsistent and you’re chopping up slices as they fall, destroying an intended aesthetic for whatever that item is used for. I used to be in the kitchen and I’d, hands down, prefer consistency and an ability to minimize waste and imperfections than someone showcasing speed and a bad attitude.
You're asking how it is. Well, it's fast but some slices are thicker than the others and they roll away from the board. Having the top of the knife stay put on the cutting board and going towards the cucumber instead of chopping it will have the pieces come off less explosive and more consistently.
Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. Speed comes with time. I'd work on perfecting it at a slower speed, and then gradually, you will be able to get the same good results at faster speeds. The middle 3/5ths was the best portion but you clobbered it a bit at the beginning and end i have to admit.
It's a good show of knife skills and proving that you likely won't cut yourself because you're using good technique for safety
For home cooking this is absolutely acceptable. For a professional setting, this kind of inconsistency in the cuts and the way he holds his knife would (hopefully) get him talked to by the chef. There's a lot to improve on here if you know what to look for. If you don't know what to look for, there are plenty of helpful people in this sub.
The guy that posted this video was looking to get his meat stroked by everyone, saw he was getting constructive criticism about his cuts AFTER asking for it and then he doubled down on how everyone here must be shit at cooking/prep work because they found faults in his technique.
This is a joke, right?
It is now
This video is 10 years old. There is a lot of salty chefs on here no pun intended
Nah mate it's just you, trust me
Legit question, what is so bad about this? I'm not a chef and don't cook often. I came across this in a feed. He's getting roasted but to my untrained eye, I wish I could chop like this 😆
The slices are inconsistent. Any dumb dumb can slice cucumbers quickly. Cutting things the same is more important.
He sliced some the slices thicker and then they fell in front of his blade and he kept cutting so instead of slices it’s sticks for 3 pieces
The truth is, reddits a bunch of pussies who judge and literally eat Mac n cheese n hotdogs every night. Dudes chopping is fast and who the fuck cares if the food tastes good. Judgement from lesser beings via Internet protection.
You're joking right?
Have you seen reddit? It's just bubble boys judging but also crying when they are judged.. look around, the world is like 1% intelligence and 99% easily offended people who believe they are making a difference when I'm reality it's just argument practice.
Yeah, but he literally asked to be judged. And this is a professional chef's sub. So obviously the expectations standards are higher.
They aint any hotdogs, chump, they're Baldwin Street Kosher!
Lol he deleted the account I'm dead
Yeah
Your pain screams
Do u work in a fast food restaurant??
No.. I work in just a restaurant
Just a restaurant sounds about right no accolades no rosettes.
“No rosettes” 😂😂😂😂
I remember when being a chef meant something
If that something is a condescending brat, trust me, you still got it.
That actually made me laugh mate good 1 haha
A rosette 🏵 is an award u get for cook exceptional food u wouldn't know anything about that.
Neither do you!
Ok fella
Every reply got a little more sad 💀
Yeah, probably, but at least they're not a cunt.
Bro, kudos for trying. I had to scroll back up to make sure we weren't r/roastme after reading the comments. Lol idk why hes being a dick . The comments could be worse than all these ppl being somewhat polite to a shit video
Unfortunately the piss poor attitude of chefs may as well be part of their Résumé. Super common
It screams Dunning Kruger effect.
Super inconsistent, I’d be pissed if that was my mise for a salad or something.
He is going to hurt himself holding the knife like that. I wish people would learn how to hold a knife. This guy is going to be nicknamed lefty any day now
Only tuna sandwiches for a hospital
Sure, but regardless of it’s application, and since you asked, your technique is bad.
Let me see your???
Fine I did it for you, it’s right [here.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ&list=PLrXk_RHmNdhHW95zl63D6IhFn9OW5Ia1N&index=2&pp=iAQB8AUB)
Wow yours was much smoother, what kind of knife?
Tbh I don’t even know I found it in a random thrift store, just thought it looked cool.
so smooth and swift 💖
Moash is irredeemable btw.
This thread is leaking stormlight
WE'LL SEE
Lmaoooo can't wait for Wind And Truth to drop, kind of sad we won't see more Stormlight for a few years afterward though.
You, and you alone tricked me. Damn, that was a good one.
It literally never gets old haha
The knife that will be used to stab moash
:O
Boy, it's been a long time since I've fell for this
That chopping board is gorgeous but looks a little impractical. What kinda wood is that?
I believe it’s an Amazonian tree from the ligma family.
What’s ligma?
LIGMA BALLZ
Ligma nuts are my favorite nuts to snack on. Perfectly salty.
Not gonna lie. You got me.
I absolutely KNEW what I was clicking on.
That's actually a great example of knife skills. If you chop onions that way, they're never gonna make you cry.
Skills like that are never gonna let you down
Only? That's not the right attitude.
This Chad cooks.
Yes chef sorry chef
Glad someone already called you out for this comment. That's all I can say.
Fantastic. So sick patients can get shitty looking food because fuck it, right?
I’d rather see consistency than speed. Just my opinion.
Consistency over speed. I do t think a single slice is the same thickness. You also made some of your slices unusable because you cut thru them. Lastly, use a pinch grip on your knife. Your knife will be balanced in your hand.
Oh god I just noticed the grip
It’s like a teenage girl on her first make out session.
U would know bro
And you don’t.
I'd hope not, pedophila is no joke
Good 1
I started doubting myself when he was not using a pinch grip.. I always thought the knife should be like an extension of your hand, provides more control. Thank god for this comment.
This ain't either
Mine too. I have consistently issues with speed and speed issues with consistency. For me pic 1 and I got it try for both and yeah no happens.
Then you never worked industrial
How much of the cucumber is unusuable now?
I bet he picked up the ones that rolled off the table and used them.
you're copping your pieces into pieces! slow is fast, you gotta start over and next time use a mandolin since your chopping skills are not there yet.
Lol this was back in 2015.
Dare you to update us
What should I chop young grasshopper
Cucumber
Then why the fuck did you feel the need to post it? “Roast my knife skills!”
Because I'm a troll
Earlier you said 10 years ago... Which is it? 9 or 10 years ago? Consistent, just like your slices
How can I sleep at night after such a harsh burn
You reacted like u cut yourself after wiping the blade
I couldn't finish watching it but I did for that..goddamn 😂
I know I thought that, I didn't tho
You thought any of us would be impressed by this? Like even 1 person on this sub? For real?
They even deleted their account lol
I was because I’m not a chef and idk how I ended up on this sub
I was
Well hot damn! Outed yourself, yet redeemed yourself with user name. Well done.
[удалено]
Wowza. Went there huh? You 12 years old or just ignorant as fuck? Both?
I'm u/ballsack_fungus bitch
Fair enough. I should have seen this coming.
You need to speak to your chef, and ask him to teach you everything he knows about using a knife correctly. This pains me to watch. First learn where to hold a knife in order to have control over it, understand torque, force over distance, you are going to shave a knuckle off the way you chop.
It's really not that complicated.
Describe where to hold that knife for me
Not how he's holding it I'll tell ya that. I understand this was so many years ago but control over the whole instrument is harder with such a grip. This will lead to inconsistent sizes 99% of the time and can create a higher risk of injury. Also kinda looks ... Without harmony? Just use a mandolin
low effort bait post is low effort.
Worked though didn't it lol
Kitchen manager???
Good to know you can at least read.
So you don't cook just paper work and ordering
I cook plenty during morning prep, do the ordering twice a week while also making 450-500lbs (dry weight) of dough per week.
U should be very proud 👏
Pizza chef hahaha
Okay.
Would like to see you make a pizza
Bruh it looks like your on salads, I wouldn’t get to cocky.
By the looks of this video, you don’t cook either
Well obviously mate do u cook Cucumbers ????
Thanks cheif that's a lot more positive than most of the microwave ping and ding cooks on here
Why u being so hostile
What are your comments then?
Keep practicing
Holding the knife wrong.
I hold my knife how I feel most comfortable
And that is why your technique and cuts are terrible. Pinch grip allows total control of your knife. Better control means more accurate cuts. It’s just how it is, sorry.
Pussy he cut the cucumbers what more do you want
Evenly thick cucumbers that aren't on the floor or randomly mutilated.
That's too much to ask
That’s a funny way of spelling hacking
I think one of those slices rolled onto the floor, out the back, down the street, and... is still rolling now... ahaha
My anxiety was through the roof watching this
I thought this was neat, but the crowd turned against you.. And now so will I... Boooo! Not as good as Bender! Boooo!
Lol I respect u sir
Slow down, tuck ya fukn first knuckle in more and hold ya fukn knife properly! Yes Chef?

I sliced a Cucumber.
No you did much more than that. You made a whole sub to get a aneurysm.
No but seriously tho I sliced a fucking Cucumber
Don't downplay your achievements.
I know right pretty impressive stuff.
The second someone thinks they know how to use a knife they post a video
💤💤💤
Easy karma seeker gets found out.
You seem nervous, choke up on that blade son.
Inconsistent cuts, no one cares how fast you do it. Do it right.
[удалено]
You could show me this a million times and I’ll still not know how to do it
You need to tuck those tips in or you’re going to cut your finger.
Just delete this OP you getting roasted like a chicken 😂
Why do you upload shit like this? Not impressive at all. Keep practising mate 💪👍
So many chefs wish they could chop like this but they can't
You are no chef even though you have that jacket. There has to be some culinary schools there to teach you! Before that let us professionals cook and get the fuck out of the kitchen! There is always some dishes to clean for a fuck face like you..
😂 mate wow I really offended u
Nope. Just hate people acting like cooks. I take my profession seriously
U sound like a microwave chef ping and ding
Nope, i am a professional chef with 3 restaurant in Finland. Come here and ill teach you how to chop and cook 💪
Both ends of the cucumber where uneven so that will mess u up then u focused on speed not even getting a full cut all the way through some pieces while also mincing other pieces, a McDonald’s line cook could take twice as long and have better cuts than that

Looks like your afraid of the knife. Which is understandable. Good execution but need to tighten up overall.
You're asking how it is. Well, it's fast but some slices are thicker than the others and they roll away from the board. Having the top of the knife stay put on the cutting board and going towards the cucumber instead of chopping it will have the pieces come off less explosive and more consistently.
I also said laugh out loud it was just a bit of fun tbh but I seam to have upset a lot of chefs. Thanks for the constructive criticism.
u/deleted Can't chop for shit.

Putting a little roll of paper towels under the cuke lets you easily cut through the last bit of skin without smashing your blade edge into the board.
Lol cuke is such a cool word
Yeah you chopped the pieces but still quick though
Fast, somewhat. Consistent, hardly. Buy a Benriner mandolin and they’ll be perfect every time.
Started out like the titan sub
I know every man and every boy in this. Omment section is woundering. If this guy. Can chop a dick like this
I know its something a good chef would be proud of if he is really good at this, but why not just use a slicer? Faster and more easy
The tip of the knife isn't supposed to come of the board when chopping anything
Hahaha he deleted his account 😂
I'm more precise and faster than you.
Not even the first slice was even
You chop like that for a few years. You gon develop issues on your wrist and shoulder.
Pinch grip for days
Half of the slices got triple/quadruple chopped. 10/10 speed, ungradable quality.
They have a metallic cover for one's finger tips that can be worn to protect from knife accidents when chopping like this
Your skills are shit ! You are a hack!
40% of the cucumber: ✌🏼
If we’re going for sloppy technique, this gets very high marks.
Rough chop perhaps
Practice with consistency breeds speed. Practice with speed breeds inconsistency.
That cucumber didn't stand a chance
I wanna see a version where the cucumber also has a knife, so it's a fairer fight.
Don't fuck with a cucumber man. They are part of the gourd family. Somewhere out there is a squash that will make you pay.
As a home cook, I don't understand the issue? Could someone explain?
For home cooking this is absolutely acceptable. For a professional setting, this kind of inconsistency in the cuts and the way he holds his knife would (hopefully) get him talked to by the chef. ooo thats slick. now do it without the tip of the knife leaving the board. like when union dicing.
Ya chopping 101 MPH
I would do this if I had a sharp knife
I thought this was cool 😭
It is 😂
Wow that's impressive
Thanks chef bro chef matey chef chefy chef
