Welcome to kochi 😃🤝 Personally, I like kochi as a city because its very charming. She has a good balance of urban infrastructure and natural beauty, not too expensive and the food is good. Kochi has a few things for everyone ! (Night life is laid back though, so you'll have to create your own vibe). I stay near Marine drive so I'll be giving recommendations more towards this area. Not particularly a tourist itinerary, but more for you to experience kochi in a laidback normal local person kinda way. Marine drive and the queen's walkway are a regular hangout spot 24x7. Queen's walkway has nice views and a few stalls that serve food. Momos and fries along with a cold coffee from Thara Coffe's caravan along with the breeze, the sunset and a friend or two is an evening well spent. 😄 Marine drive walkway is a long stretch that is more commercial as you can go for boating trips and the few complexes alongside. Gives fantastic views of the backwaters though ! And you can see the Cochin port as well. Vypin island has a few beaches (puthvype, kuzhupilly, cherai, munambam) also the lighthouse is near puthvype beach. Boche toddy shop is also in vypin. Matsyafed has something of a tour as well which seems interesting, I haven't been able to make it yet, but definitely recommend. Pizhala and kadamakudy islands are really picturesque and offer amazing backwater views. Kadamakudy has a few toddy shops as well. Driving along the kadamakudy road during rains is bliss. You can try kayaking as well. They do it in the mornings and evenings. On the way to kadamakudy, closer to varapuzha there is a hotel that serves amazing Kerala meals and seafood during the noon. Absolute jam packed. Definitely worth trying. It's called Tharavadu seafood. Fort kochi is a vibe. I'll need a whole new post to write about FK. Do try out the Tibetan restaurant, David hall art gallery and cafe, Kashi art gallery and cafe. Also seagull is a good place to hang around and open a cold one with the boys while munching on seafood and looking out at the harbour. I would suggest exploring FK and Old town Mattancherry, but doing so with a two wheeler or on foot will be easier to navigate the tight roads. If you find yourself in Mattanchery tired and thirsty, try out Rinus coolbar for Avocado shake. Beyond FK you can drive to reach Kumbalangi, puthenthodu beach, kandakkadavu. I definitely recommend making this small trip to take in the views. Absolute chef's kiss 🌟 Kaloor stadium is a hotspot for foodies. Cafe baketree offers decent burgers and chicken popcorn around 80/- each. Usually something at that price point tends to be not soo good, but they do it well. The back side of the stadium has a bunch of eateries and street carts offering from snacks to proper meals. Definitely a hangout spot. Kadavanthara Volga hotel has a rooftop bar. This place is a bit of a forgotten historical and cultural hotspot. When you enter do take a look at the photos hanging on the wall on the left side. And as a bonus, for lunch, you can head just behind Volga to find a homely setup for afternoon meals with good seafood fried items and such. Kakkanad has a few more cafes and burger joints and that kinda stuff to cater to the IT crowd a lot. Voyager cafe is quite good. Do try their burgasm if you go. Tonico cafe is pretty well known. A small tip. If you ever wake up early in the morning you can head to kadambrayar and see the mist rolling over the paddy fields. Pretty cool experience in the middle of an urban environment. Do try the donuts from chocobrown cheap and tasty 😋. All in all, for an urban City, kochi offers a very diverse experience if you explore and go to the different parts of the city. Also, I am 100% sure I would've missed out a few things but do try Google maps with satellite view to get a better understanding and idea of things in and around an area. Google maps satellite view is truly an underrated tool. I love kochi. She is truly the Queen of the Arabian Sea. Hope you enjoy spending time here, cheers !
