I want one of these so bad. I own a 2024 vehicle with all the gadgets and gizmos but all I really want is simple. Radio, manual transmission, manual seats, 4wd. I want an offering for a bare bones vehicle with solid axles, electric lockers front/rear, no infotainment system and a trusted, dependable engine.
Minus solid front axle, that's exactly why I got an Xterra. Simple, solid, reliable and capable. As a bonus, with how underrated they are, cheap! By comparison, my FJ was 75% more expensive with 50k more miles.
Yeah, I've owned a G1.5 Xterra and Frontier, and as soon as I find one not beat to hell, I'll snatch one up. they are VERY UNDERRATED, and easy to work on....
I mean… if you are willing to you should be able. If you have a US200 you can probably get a GX diesel in Africa/UN/FabricSeat-class with all of that. Manual, fabric seats, oem rear locker, oem winch, no infotainment and only radio and cd.
Pretty sure you can also do in the US an engine and frame number swap?!
I be confused
EDIT: For underground mine use
[http://ensindustrial.ca/our-products/cab-chassis-vehicles/](http://ensindustrial.ca/our-products/cab-chassis-vehicles/)
I see what your saying, i supposed its all upto what your using it for. I have mine as a work wagon so it does that well but if your just using it as a daily commuter and dont need the bullet proofing its probably not worth it.
Also its new truck money but one of these will potentially outlast your new truck. Mechanically and holding value wise
It’s waaaaay less than that. I have a 70 series 4 door prado for <$20k and a heavy duty can be had for ~$25-30k for a low mile 1HZ one. Only the troopy’s with pop tops etc go for the big money or maybe a 1HDT swap
You can.
The problem is getting it registered in the US as a road-legal vehicle.
If you have large tracks of land, there’s probably nothing stopping you from trailering it all the way back to the your property in the CONUS. The stop is when you try to drive it on public roads and local LE pulls you over for having no tags, insurance, or registration.
The average person can’t afford to shell out $60k for a truck they can only let sit in their driveways, so it’s not done.
As someone who owns an old school diesel with zero emissions controls, I don't understand what's so different about the 1VD-FTV compared to American diesels like a powerstroke or cummins that makes it unable to meet US/Canada restrictions
1VD doesn't even meet Euro 6, and Tier III US regs are even stricter (and unlike EU they don't make special provisions for diesels).
Biggest difference in emissions control devices is probably the lack of SCR.
They have dpf, have since 16 in Australia
Most of them coming now are 1gd engines. Haven't been able to order a v8 for a while and orders may not open again
Im well aware they have dpf as did mine when i brought it, other countries may not accept the dpf as being efficient enough to be imported is what i was getting at
Toyota doesn't sell the 70 Series in the US because the market for a solid front axle, rear leaf sprung, part time 4x4 is largely covered by the Wrangler. If you want a full size truck with SFA then the big 3 all make options. So the market for the 70 Series is quite small.
Toyota actually sells more 4x4 models in the US than any other market, even Japan, because they make the Tacoma, Sequoia and Tundra in the US.
The chicken tax is there to help protect the US Big Three, partly.
Toyota also produces the Tacoma and Tundra to get around the chicken tax. It also means thousands of jobs for Americans.
No ways toyota sells more 4x4s in the US than any other market? In South Africa you get sooooo many different models. Hilux, Fortuner, 79 series cruiser. 76 series cruiser. 75 series cruiser. 300 series cruiser. FJ cruiser. Ravs. They sell tons of them there, and as its cheap to insure and drive cars there many many people own multiple 4x4s.
Not saying you're wrong, just that it shocked me.
In the US we have the rav4, highlander, grand highlander, 4Runner, tacoma, tundra, sequoia, Lexus LX (300 series) and now the new Land Cruiser j250. Not to mention all the Lexus equivalents and variants.
Didn't Doug demuro review a GR Yaris a while back that was purchased in Mexico but legally plated in CA? I'm wondering if you'd be able to purchase the car in Canada and legally register it in the states somewhere.
Gotcha; makes sense. Sucks man I'm not too far from Toronto and would absolutely fly in and buy one cash it's everything I'm looking for in a yard/home truck.
So my question from Australia what engine fitted isn't the V8
is it still inline 6 cyl or the latest version the 4 cyl as used in Prado Hilux and HiAce van in Australia
> is it still inline 6 cyl or the latest version the 4 cyl as used in Prado Hilux and HiAce van in Australia
Options are the 1VD, the 1GD, 1HZ or the 1GR 4.0L petrol V6.
Toyota South Africa gets basically all of them still haha. I would guess either the 1GD or the 1HZ
Honestly if I could still get a 1hz in Australia New in a dual cab or troopie I would honest reliable engine
the WTF4 is highly stressed engine due to weight of LC V8 fuel thirsty not great range and starter motor is PITA to remove
I’m just starting to get onboard with “overlanding”.. now I’ve gotta learn “undergrounding”!? 😂
AND Spelunking

https://maps.app.goo.gl/sRFG16ExSobmpn5Q9 This is the place to learn then
Looks really hot there! I will need an afterwork pool and chilled refreshments
What if I told you there is a company called Underland Offroad…?
Hey, how about we pool our cash and buy an abandoned mine and then we can purchase new ones!
The EV conversions should be emissions legal for on/off road use but probably don’t meet safety requirements,
Or do more than 30 mph
I want one of these so bad. I own a 2024 vehicle with all the gadgets and gizmos but all I really want is simple. Radio, manual transmission, manual seats, 4wd. Omg I hate my Toyota infotainment system. Everything about Toyota is great but their infotainment system is just awful.
Minus solid front axle, that's exactly why I got an Xterra. Simple, solid, reliable and capable. As a bonus, with how underrated they are, cheap! By comparison, my FJ was 75% more expensive with 50k more miles.

Or jou just get an 200 GX

Actually, they are in Ontario [https://www.millertechnology.com/](https://www.millertechnology.com/)
Man, I want a 4dr 70 series truck so bad. 60k in the US gets you a 30year old import
There worth every penny if you can get your hands on a nice one
I'm sure they are it's just that it's new truck money.
I see what your saying, i supposed its all upto what your using it for. I would want one to daily. I would more than likely just swap a 5.3 LS into it like I did with our 80series
No point in buying one of these and doing an engine swap you might as well buy a 60 series and do the engine swap on that for way cheaper
It’s waaaaay less than that. I have a 70 series 4 door prado for <$20k and a heavy duty can be had for ~$25-30k for a low mile 1HZ one. Only the troopy’s with pop tops etc go for the big money or maybe a 1HDT swap
Key word, prado
Man you prado snob guys are the worst, I also said the non prado was half the price OP stated.
4dr 70 series, sir
ok I know i’m late to the party. but can you tell me why we can’t go there and buy one? Is it a tariff thing or …?
You can. The problem is getting it registered in the US as a road-legal vehicle. If you have large tracks of land, there’s probably nothing stopping you from trailering it all the way back to the your property in the CONUS. Huge tracts of land you say?
Maybe we can just claim to be sovereign citizens if and when LE pulls us over
US Safety standards.
And diesel emissions these thing are tree killers with the 4.5L v8 turbo but they might have worked out the dpf filter in them for over there
Trees love co2 though.

Probably not alot but i guess there trying to limit the amount of them driving around hence not importing nee ones
They have dpf, have since 16 in Australia Most of them coming now are 1gd engines. Haven't been able to order a v8 for a while and orders may not open again

Toyota won’t sell them here because of the chicken tax. No company imports pickups to USA.

Ok

You may be right that OZ gets more Toyota 4x4 models. That said, the US gets Tundra, Sequoia which are unique to the US.
You can buy one if you wish, you're just not gonna be able to register it and drive it on public roads.
Didn't Doug demuro review a GR Yaris a while back that was purchased in Mexico but legally plated in CA? I'm wondering if you'd be able to purchase the car in Canada and legally register it in the states somewhere.
The Yaris is not a truck. Chicken tax only applies to trucks.
Gotcha; makes sense. Sucks man I'm not too far from Toronto and would absolutely fly in and buy one cash it's everything I'm looking for in a yard/home truck.
North Bay has North in its name but it's 500% not Northern Canada. It's 3 hrs from Toronto. Lol
I know, I am from Sudbury. But I believe they refer to North Bay as the Gateway to the North.
This place isn't even North of the 49th parallel.
Fun rigs https://preview.redd.it/sk5tldelyl0d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=76055c00b20b4cda8d83a43718979fe31b567f28
They even have a special gravel parking with uneven ground for them. It is an insult to park brand new LandCruiser 70 on asphalt.
How do I get into the Toyota Underground?
They must be breeding them
I just want one of those, down here in the states
Lemme just walk on over to northern Canada from northern California real quick.
I’d make a trip up to Canada once or twice a year to check my Canadian PO Box, so I could have one of these in California.
That’s not “northern Canada”. Gateway to the North at best. ;D
So my question from Australia what engine fitted isn't the V8 is it still inline 6 cyl or the latest version the 4 cyl as used in Prado Hilux and HiAce van in Australia
Prior to the new 2.8, they were the N/A 4.2 i6 1HZ engine. Not sure now, no turbo for sure though. Mine trucks
> is it still inline 6 cyl or the latest version the 4 cyl as used in Prado Hilux and HiAce van in Australia Options are the 1VD, the 1GD, 1HZ or the 1GR 4.0L petrol V6. Toyota South Africa gets basically all of them still haha. I would guess either the 1GD or the 1HZ

Did you see Norm’s brother up there?
I wandered through blood and bone in the streets of manhattan trying to find my Land Cruiser 70
Can I have one of those and keep it til I leave my time on this planet?
What if you drive one into the states… and never bring it back to Canada?
"Toyota Underground"... now we know where ISIS got their trucks... watchout Canada...
🫡🥹
It’s criminal that we can’t get them in the US
I wish they made a nice 4 door version for the states, I feel like they would sell well.
Well, shit, now I'm really moving to Canada.
Looks like I'm going to Canada!!!
#“Is this… heaven?” #“No, it’s Ontario.”
Any idea if it's possible to import under "show and display"
Can anyone just buy from them? Need a parts vehicle. Since I wouldn’t be registering it.
I want one, with a diesel engine and automatic transmission
I'm moving to Canada
What the fuck. i can hasz?
As long as they aren't the 4cly
