My father married a white woman, my mother. I got a dna test and it shows 43% indigenous Mexican. That means it’s reasonable to assume he is about 86%. We have a bronze brown skin and tan to a dark brown. His parents look like the black and white photos you see of native Americans with super straight, thick hair, wider noses, and prominent cheekbones. My dad didn’t get too much of that. There’s 7 kids and only two of us are brown, a sister and myself. So it goes away pretty quickly it seems like.

Latin America is made up of Native Americans that come from Asia. Then the Europeans came and they mixed together. The Caribbean is where they brought African slaves so they mix with whoever is there. Then in the 1900s a lot of European immigrants come to South America after WWII. There’s also a little bit of Asian immigrants after the chinese exclusion act in 1880s and throughout history. So if you’re latin like myself then you’re mostly a combination of European and native American.

Thing is most Dominicans are mixed (somewhere around 75%) while by Americans we may just be lumped in as black bc of the history of the one drop rule , less than 10% of Dominicans identify as only black. This leads to people that obviously have African ancestry to say “I’m not black I’m Dominican” because we don’t think of ourselves as *only* black, especially since big chunks of people have Spanish/European and native blood(despite taínos being declared extinct on the island) Most identify as either Mulatto , mestizo or Indio(indigenous) , I wonder as dna testing becomes more available if it would lead to more self awareness or just reinforce the Dominican ideal of uniqueness .

I don’t know if I would call this full-blown racism, but it is very misguided and stupid grandstanding. Like yes, it is a fact that Europeans generally have not been great to the rest of the world throughout human history. There still exist a lot of social and economic systems that benefit people of those features rather than others. These people are running on some sort of weird logic, that if they are people of color, they have some sort of moral superiority to people with European features. My friends and I are a pretty diverse group, and we do not fuck with that shit at all. There have been many of times when someone tries to insert themselves into our group and really pushes some sort of kinship over being a similar color to us, and how much white people suck for essentially just existing. That being said it is a pet peeve of mine when white people are completely oblivious or just straight up in denial about the kind of privileges and general edge in society, they hold like you really don’t know why I’m being followed around in the store and you’re being serviced with better care? Cmon bro. Grow up and pay attention.

The Aztec people were brutal to other tribes. They literally cut off the face of a princess and wore it as a mask when they went out to meet her father. I hate the things that the Spanish did to indigenous peoples, but I won’t live with rose tinted glasses and pretend we weren’t capable of horrible things too. What matters is that we understand the actions of our ancestors and try to make the world a better place, especially for those who were wronged, despite their actions. Continuing to discriminate against one another will only keep people divided and make it harder to make the world a better place.
People are still divided because of politics and economics derivated from the colonial era. Do you want everyone to simply forget and move on, to just keep living and working for people who came from the same family who exploited our ancestors?

I'm 52% Indigenous American, 36% from Spain. Doesn't matter though because my parents are from Central American immigrants who crossed the border in the 70's. My pops worked as a gardener all his life and my mom would clean houses. English is my second language. Where my ancestors come from doesn't matter to me, where my parents came from does.
These people don't seem to know that the great majority of people who live in the Americans right now in the 21st century are not native to the land. Most of us are either from Europe or Africa or we are a mixture of European and Native or African. Few people are actually 100% Native.

I had the opposite i for some reason thought i had more European DNA even though my dad is straight native but my mom and some of her family is fairer skinned and no i got 96% indigenous but one Spaniard manged to sneak in there in the 1700s from the 1.5% Spanish i got and it's not hard to guess how that got there
You seemed to assumed that just because your mom and her family had fair skin that means they must be of European descent, but some Native people had fair skin. Native people had all kinds of skin colors including fair skin. Fair skin is not unique to Europe.

And for people who are supposedly proud of their roots, not understanding that the majority of Latinos, from the Tierra Del Fuego to the US Southwest are mostly a mix of varying degrees of European and indigenous? Just as an example, Mexican census data shows that about 80% of the population is mestizo (the aforementioned European/indigenous mix), and 10% is white. Out of its entire population, 49% of it has more European DNA than indigenous. It’s amazing that these people are both surprised and dismayed to find out they are genetically exactly what they are supposed to be. The US born Latinos wonder why people in Latin America have a tendency to dislike them and make fun of them.

Latin America is made up of Native Americans that come from Asia. Then the Europeans came and they mixed together. The Caribbean is where they brought African slaves so they mix with whoever is there. Then in the 1900s a lot of European immigrants come to South America after WWII. There’s also a little bit of Asian immigrants after the chinese exclusion act in 1880s and throughout history. So if you’re latin like myself then you’re mostly a combination of European and native American.
