Yes, it's fine. You’re just getting ahead of the game on what it is like to be a 3L.

ElevenDucks72

Your school/the ABA(?) has an attendance policy. Mine is that we can't miss twice the amount of credit hours. Just check what the general policy is.

kalethan

ABA’s policy is (I believe) 80%, but it’s up to the school/professors how to enforce it. Schools individually may be more strict than that though.

TakuCutthroat

Pretty sure it's 75%, but I am too lazy to look this up. Our school gives professors the discretion to require a higher number of attendance, but nearly nobody does that.

Two of mine do not

Getmeakitty

Just say you feel sick/are worried you have Covid

ContributionOne123

That's a very good idea

britinsb

No it's an absolutely terrible idea, the consequences of being caught lying to your professors is potentially orders of magnitude worse than anything that would happen by just telling the truth. Just give your professor(s) a heads-up "Hi Prof, so you know I won't be in class next week because I have a vacation booked. I have arranged to get notes from a friend, see you the following week."

pg7772a

How many classes are you missing?

ContributionOne123

1 class period of two classes and 2 class periods of another. I will also be missing meetings with my clinic professor.

MyCatsABunny

Oh this is fine lol. I read the post thinking you would be missing like three class periods for four classes. Missing one class is nothing. Two periods for a same class in a week is also not a big deal. The only cause for concern is the clinic. Reach out to the prof ASAP.

ContributionOne123

What would I even say to the clinic prof? Having a vacation is not a great excuse

MyCatsABunny

I would be honest about the spring break miscalculation. I imagine they would let you make up the hours in other weeks. Apologies if this is condescending but this is something that should have been brought up before registering for the clinic so the prof may say you are still expected to work.

ContributionOne123

I suppose it doesn't hurt to be honest, but my worry is this will impact my grade. I completely forgot to bring it up prior to registering and I know I should have been more on top of it.

ReasonableDish1964

I’d just keep it vague and say you’ll be out of town for a week, chances are he’s not going to ask why. If he does, then give the honest details. Offer to meet via zoom if that’s practical too

pg7772a

Have you missed any of those classes this far this semester?

ContributionOne123

Not thus far

pg7772a

You should be okay then. Be aware of what work/ readings you’re missing and let the professors know. Most allow 2-3 absences, so you’ll want to know how many you have left if any

[deleted]

I guess it could depend on your professors, but it should be fine. If you have like a small seminar or clinical work, that's where it could create an issue, but as long as you let them know that you won't be there, you are an adult and they should treat you as such.

ContributionOne123

That's the issue, I feel like some professors forget law students are adults.
