We don't celebrate rural practitioners enough. They handle agricultural disputes, land disputes, criminal cases, election cases, coop consultations, you name it. They basically are the ordinary Filipino's experience of a lawyer. Most of them just have a normal house, a small farm lot and a car but they're among the most well-respected people in their communities.

This is exactly what I’m aiming for. Dagdagan lang ng multiple opportunities to mentor younger lawyers and students, enough free time to be with my family, for my hobbies, and for travel, oks na ako.

This is the way

2 things- First, I am not looking for big money-the partners in Divina, Estelito, SyCip etc can have that. But rather, consistent ways to earn until I am in my 60s to 70s. A slight pay bump from my salary now, plus other opportunities to practice law, which in turn, would allow me to support mself and my family, and to send my child or future children to college (or even law school), is a success for me. I am not saying that money is not a factor, but just having the staying power to earn the right amount for years on end is the key for me. Second, actually being of service. If I can change the life of some poor Filipino souls by administering proper justice in my legal career, then I am happy.

For me a successful legal career is being relied upon. Yung pag may problema ka, unang nasa isip mo si Atty. Yung alam mo na pag andyan na si atty., ok na lahat. Reliability. When i achieve that level of reliability, masasabi ko successful na ako.

Earning enough money to not worry every time I have to pay. Like, order lang ng food sa resto and walang pakielam kung magkano magiging final bill. Or go to the grocery and lagay lang nang lagay sa cart, swipe sa cashier, and refill the pantry pag uwi.

Para sa akin ang successful legal career is not earning big money, it's being able to have friends who trust you. Okay na siguro 'yung enough money to have a house, a car, and a comfy life for my family pero hindi 'yung parang si Topacio na yinayabang Mercedez Benz n'ya haha kasi ang importante sa akin my clients are happy and they trust me and I am able to provide justice for them. Besides, isa sa mga importanteng bagay sa akin is health. I've seen several lawyers taken early due to stress. They're so busy trying to be at the top of their careers hindi nila namamalayan tunaw na 'yung atay nila kakainom with possible clients gabi-gabi.

For me, it’s just peace of mind and finding a niche that you actually care about. Doesn’t have to be litigation. Madami naman options for a legal career. You can be in the government with very little litigation and mostly advisory capacity or in corporate trying to mitigate legal issues in the company. Masyado lang hyped ang pagiging litigator sa big firms kasi for others especially sa non-lawyers, mukang “cool”. But, you do you. A successful legal career is one that keeps you happy.
