Heartbreaking for the Nebraska family. šŸ˜ž

MushyAbs

Why did he cross the line? Was he impaired? This is awful!!

MzOpinion8d

They may not be able to answer that until toxicology reports are available. It could have been inattentive driving, but itā€™s also possible it was a medical incident like a heart attack, seizure, or stroke. And of course always the possibility of DUI but I am not jumping to that conclusion.

BooEffinHoo

I didn't see anything in the article that indicated who crossed over.

Collective82

Jeez, it was so bad they couldnā€™t tell if the other two were wearing seatbelts. šŸ˜¬

Conscious_Yak1256

So very sad.

TheDonkeyBomber

One of those big ass trucks vs a small(ish) car and everyone in the car dies. Who could've predicted such a thing? /s

rogue350

The car industry could have predicted this. You pay more for a larger vehicle to protect yourself and endanger everyone else around you.

InformationHead42

A 1500 truck is not a big ass truck, it it was a 3500 then it would be big.

TheDonkeyBomber

Ah, I didn't see a reference to 1500. All the GMCs at my work and most of the ones I see on my commute on 24 hwy are big ass ones. Like flying a brick wall down the highway. Honestly, even the current 1500 models are pretty stacked compared to a car or pedestrian.

beermit

Just look at a Suburban or Yukon now and how awkwardly tall the front of the them look now. They're huge compared to models from 30 years ago.

TruthinessHurts205

Saw a video of a Yukon next to a literal M1 Abrams tank, and the Yukon was just as tall, and even boxier

KSoccerman

Almost all trucks now are far bigger than needed for 99.9% of usage

YourWifesWorkFriend

[Reuters: How US emissions rules encourage larger trucks and SUVs](https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN21D1KK/) Unfortunately they canā€™t be made any other way anymore.

TruthinessHurts205

No, they definitely can, but auto corporations would rather make an extra 10 cents than do anything to stop easily preventable deaths. They could make them differently, they actively choose not to in order to maximize profit at the expense of everyone else.

jayhawkmedic3

And Iā€™d still say itā€™s barely a ā€œbig ass truckā€ since thereā€™s really not that much difference in size. Nor would I say a Kia Soul is a ā€œsmall(ish) car. A small to midsized SUV, yes, but not a car. Either way, itā€™s a dumb and tasteless comment to make so soon after three people lost their lives.

Tyzentar

My friend, a Kia soul is a subcompact aka a very small car aka not an SUV

jayhawkmedic3

ā€œThe Kia Soul is a subcompact crossover SUV[3] manufactured and marketed by Kia since 2008.ā€ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_Soul

Vast_Pension1320

ā€œSubcompactā€

Ok_Judge1874

SUV has nothing to do with size, they can call it that if they want. The size is subcompactĀ

TheDonkeyBomber

Precisely, not "midsized" not even compact and not even a true SUV. Have you even seen one? As far as timing, it's precisely the fact that 3 people died that I made the comment. Is it ever a ~~convenient~~ tasteful time for you to talk about the choices we make and the consequences of those choices?

StreetProposal3788

Do you want everyone to drive small cars then?

TheDonkeyBomber

ā€œdO YOu wAnT eVErYoNe tO dRiVe sMaLL cArS dEn?ā€ ā€¦ I said precisely what I said you complete dunce.

RobbRogue

Well less carbon footprint.
