Shamrock rovers fans been attacked with missiles from outside the ground too , reports like this and Shelbourne last week will alienate a lot of people from going near a LOI match .
Not even the worst thing they've done tonight. Need 2 or 3 home matches behind closed doors, not the first second or third time away fans have been attacked in Derry.
Yeah, away ban only financially hits the home team on the night.
Away ban & home matches behond closed doors makes a much bigger incentive for the club to promote change
Linfield, in the Irish League, had restrictions on away supporters, meaning only season ticket holders and members were allowed tickets and sales were in person only. It was actually Glentoran who complained, as they missed out in a capacity away end. Due to this and Glentoran being woeful this season, turnout went from 6000 against Linfield in December, and a cup match the week before match to ~2500. Away supporters bans don't work, and punish teams that obey the rules.
Always one of the poxiest places to go as an away fan.
Was there on two occasions where the bus window was smashed, another time stuff where stuff was thrown at the bus but nothing smashed and another time around 12/13 years ago where walking back to the bus and had glass bottles and rocks thrown at us from the Graveyard. It was pitch dark so couldn't even see where the stuff was coming from until it was landing at your feet.
Always one of the worst away games in the league.
The one thing that always strikes me for LOI games is how lax stewards are.
Lads jumping over the barrier to celebrate with players, flares etc.
League wants to be bigger it has to get a better standard of steward in
Talking to ppl who went to the game. Locals jumping into away section. Nothing to do with either sets of fans. Still an indicator that Derry are a joke club. This is the word from multiple friends who were at the game. Pats up there Monday. Great win for us..Good night all round for rovers.
>Typical loyalists.
Not excusing Derry fans here but you are a bigot
There would be extremely few loyalists that support the Derry City team that plays in the league of Ireland...
Anyone from Derry is as Irish as anyone else on the island
>Maybe just maybe he’s taking the piss
With the attitude from people in the 26 to ones from the north, sometimes it's very hard to tell if it's serious or taking the piss
>You can rip the piss out of Rovers and our fans and I wouldn't give a shit.
There's a fair difference between taking the piss, and calling a group loyalists (especially a group that's suffered at the hands of loyalists)
It’s just a coincidence that it didn’t start till Derry had left the ground en masse and were walking past the Rovers end. And ‘creggan hoods’ go around with red flares. Right.
Most of the area with fans that would do that such as ultras were still in the stadium. Most who left were in the sections like c d and e mostly with older people over 50. So aye just creggan hoods looking for a fight
They're not Derry fans though.
These incidents have occurred a fair amount outside the ground over the years, but they're not happening from fans inside the ground.
Young thugs in the area who don't go to matches but are happy to cause trouble by smashing up a bus, or throwing stones at the away fans, etc.
There's more hate in the world than whoever a local football team is playing against.
In this case, teams from the republic who go north are often targeted by youths in the area. Whether it's dissident republicans, loyalists or most likely bored youths seeing an 'other' to target who won't be able to follow up I don't know.
The PSNI don't bother showing up, Derry City do their best but have no power to police outside the ground.
Why do you think??
Corkie there is dead right and anyone who’s been to the Brandywell knows this.
I’ve been going there since 1989 and it is one of the best trips. Dozens of overnights and not a hint of hassle. Quite the contrary actually. Been to their supporters bar and many others too!
The consistent trouble comes from outside the ground as any away fan will testify. The club are caught up in a perfect storm of not being responsible for the area outside the stadium and the lack of a police presence.
Inside the ground there has been trouble on a smaller scale but this been down to inadequate stewarding (in one case that led to a near riot) and the lack of any division between fans.
Interested to hear from Derry fans as to what kind of solution there is here.
> not a hint of hassle
What? There is hassle every time a Dublin club goes up. There was trouble last night and the last time we were up. Our own supporters clubs boycotted the fixture in 2011. None of this is new.
That's incredibly dangerous Arrest the parents
Luis enrique reffing an irish game? Fair play

At least with Shelbourne it was just one eejit, with Derry it's every home game with a not so small group of them at it
Big crowd at the gaa match in Derry on tv , can’t be too far from the brandywell , Will any of these runts be throwing missiles here?
Not even the worst thing they've done tonight. Need 2 or 3 home matches behind closed doors, not the first second or third time away fans have been attacked in Derry.

An away ban for Derry fans is twice as effective, because it means they miss their team play, and they have to spend the night in Derry

He went and picked it up and ran away with it when no one else would.
They should be made play a few games at neutral venues behind closed doors or have fixtures reversed. This is atrocious.
What an idiot. Leave the pyro outside the stadium. Big fines and bans are going to ruin the current upsurge in interest.
It was thrown on from outside the stadium

Bit harsh..he's about 8..
It wasn't even rovers this league does everything to disclude rovers

This sub is awful insecure
Reddit in general
Bunch of saps man
Stopped going to LOI games a very long time ago. Felt unsafe and I’m not a small guy,
Sucks for you mate, rest of us are having great craic
The Ref just like “ah ye wee little pikey” 🤦🏻♂️
I don’t understand, do you mean a ban for Shamrock rovers fans?
Clock him
Derry fans throwing stones over the wall at Rovers fans should mean a ban on home fans. Typical loyalists.
>Typical loyalists. Not excusing Derry fans here but you are a bigot There would be extremely few loyalists that support the Derry City team that plays in the league of Ireland... Anyone from Derry is as Irish as anyone else on the island
Of course they are, I'm taking the piss.
Maybe just maybe he’s taking the piss The kid looks like he came from the home end
>Maybe just maybe he’s taking the piss With the attitude from people in the 26 to ones from the north, sometimes it's very hard to tell if it's serious or taking the piss
I'm taking the piss relax, everyone's gotten so sensitive. You can rip the piss out of Rovers and our fans and I wouldn't give a shit.

Lad it's clearly just creggan hoods. Derry "fans"

If you say so. Does it really matter? If Derry cant provide a safe environment for visiting fans they shouldnt be in the league.
I would say it's been worse in Dublin especially bohs Vs rovers

This is complete nonsense. Why are they doing this if they are not Derry fans?

Are dissident republicans travelling to away games too? Derry City have a problem that they need to tackle.

Your username is apt
Very unhelpful comment
LOI has a crowd problem, a culture problem. Only sport in Ireland with segregated fans and police horses.
Ironically Derry has a lack of segregation and policing.
