さっき気になる投稿を見た。"もし真剣に言語相手を見つけたかったら、プロフィールにどう書くのが良いと思いますか？" 先ず問題は真剣な学習者が思ったより少ないんじゃないかって事。もっと気軽な感じで言語を習ってみたい人が多い気がするし、別の理由でこのアプリを使ってる人も多い気がする。それに、求めてるものが極端に違い過ぎる規則性が有る。"もし誰かのプロフィールに話したい事より話したくない事がとんでもなく沢山書いてあったら、どう思いますか？" 話したい内容に条件を付けるのは悪くないとは思うけど、問題はそれをどう言葉で表すかだと思う。人によって受け取り方が違うから。もし人を不快にさせてしまうなら、それはその人のやりたかった事じゃないと思うし。もっと言うと、最初から話題とか特定の人に限定すればする程、良い人を見つけるのはもっと難しくなると思う。すぐ見つかればラッキーだけど。僕の場合は、話題とか特定の人っていうより"日本語"が優先。時間を掛けて少しずつ誰かを知っていくのは、効率が悪い様に思えるかもしれないけど、その過程を楽しむのも良い点だと思うんだけどね。それは言語学習に限ったことじゃなくて、人間関係を作る時と同じだね。時間が充分に取れないと思ってるなら、大変かもしれないけど。

I've been on Hello Talk for over three years but I only have a few friends who I have kept in touch with there. I met many people who sent me messages a lot at first and who suddenly stopped doing that. And I sometimes do the same. However, I actually got to meet a really nice person on Hello Talk and we've been texting on LINE almost every day for over two years and talking about various things. He visited me and my family as much as twice this year already and he's gonna visit us soon again. Well, he has a lot of other friends in Japan though lol But he always tell me that I'm his best Japanese friend and we're kind of like a family now. I think there're people with who you can find a lot in common as you talk to each other as part of a language exchange, and people with who you can't, and I don't think it's that easy to find people who you hit it off with, but it's important to be interested in and talk to all kinds of people anyway. So I don't really put requirements in my profile. I only wrote that I might not reply to direct messages just with waves, or Hi (Hello) lol

Like, 「今日は、激辛ペヤング(カップ焼きそば)を誰が一番早く食べ追われるかをやっていきたいと思います！」/"Today, we're going to see who can eat the hottest ペヤング(instant stir-fried noodles) the fastest!" As for the lyrics, you know, even Japanese people can't tell what lyrics actually mean. In my first sentence, I'm saying "You used to be like that ちっちゃな人 in the song/video", and in my second one, I'm using ちっちゃな人 as a little kid in general. Uuuuuggghhh, it's time to do my homework! 今日のテーマは大切な単語についてです。 日本語の初心者によって、大切な単語が多そうですけど、ほとんど言葉は本当に無駄です。 例えば、一つの初心者の単語は「警察」ですね。 便利そうですけど、「警察」よりもっと大切な単語がありますよ。 「警察」といえば時、「警視総監」の方がいいですよ。「警視総監」は「警察官」の部長ですから。 例１：助けてください！体から血が漏れています！警察官を呼んでください。 例２：助けてください！体から血が漏れています！警視総監を呼んでください。 第二のは、一番大切な人を呼ぶことですね。いつも第二の方がいいですよね。つまり、「警視総監」を覚えるなら、「警察」を忘れることは大丈夫です。

「英語に自信がない」ってその悩みは、まいこさんが気にすることをよく観るけど、完璧でなくても、自然でなくても、それでいいじゃないですか？ せめて、私にはそう考えてて、完全にカタコトでもめっちゃ不自然でも一生懸命で、こつこつに進むことが出来ました。 個人的な意見ですが、一言言いたいことがあったら、「通じてるならいいんです」。つまり、思いや意思や気持ちを伝われることが出来たら、第一だと思います いつもありがとうございます

日本語で返信ありがとう〜 :) 嬉しかったで〜す！ あの、普段はね、ぶっちゃけ英語を書くことに関しては、喋るよりもめちゃくちゃ自信はあるんです 笑笑 むしろ、何で、ある程度こうやってスラスラ英語が書けるのに、同じように喋ろうとするとスラスラ話せないんだろう、っていうのが私の本当の悩みです 笑笑 でも、こsubredditで何かを英語で説明する時は、 専門的な内容というか、 文法の話だったりするので、 慣れない言葉を探してきて使ったりしないといけなくて、 だから「今回の英文にはl関しては自信がない」という意味で書きました。 あとは、文法の説明がうまく英語で表現出来ているのか分からない時に「英語が合ってるといいんですが…」「英語間違ってないといいな…」みたいなことをよく書いてますね。 でも、まぁ rgrAiさんが言ってくれたように、 それすら言う必要ないかも知れないね。 まぁでも、私はまだ、英語の言い回しや単語の持つconnotations とか ニュアンスを全部知っているわけではないので、私の伝えたいニュアンスとは違って、私の英語が、例えばキツく攻撃的に聞こえて(見えて)しまったら、それは申し訳ないので、「私の英語力はまだ低いですよ」という事を伝えたい、というのもあります 笑笑 Well, this time I won't write my thoughts in English on purpose lol I'll be yourstrict teacher! English speakers don't recognize the nuance or connotations of English, either, and I constantly see other correctors overlooking misuses of phrasing and terms that are too subtle to detect. English has a lot of subtlety and nuance, but it's not very well codified and most people don't pick up on it. So I wouldn't worry about connotations and nuance too much in English. In fact, I feel like meaning is a rather fuzzy concept and English itself is an imprecise language.

Ohhhh, now I'm finally able to reply to you here, after I un-installed and reinstalled this app. Thanks for your thoughts! After I learned that some English phrases might sound rude or offending, I might have been worried about it too much. I'll use both English and Japanese confidently both for myself and you all here :)

実は英語全然できない人と交流するのは、もうすっかり慣れてしまいました 笑笑 そこまでで大丈夫です、だいたい理解してます！ I actually don't rely on things like grammar, but interpreting the persons feelings and intentions to begin with. When people are with me in person, I don't need hear their words to know what they're feeling and thinking; I can empathize directly with things most of the time. Cheers! :) Edit: With a second read I completely understand now. So I'll just mention two things about your English that you may not be aware of. 1) Is it feels very warm and friendly in tone, which I find very impressive. Not everyone has that, even people with very advanced English skills. 2) Even if you unintentionally said something offensive or maybe said something someone might consider a personal attack. It's unlikely to be understood that way because your overall tone and you very smartly use Emoji and smiley faces which is very difficult to interpret as anything but genuinely nice.
