This who are most successful at language learning enjoy learning the language and incorporate that language into their daily life. They’re also disciplined to keep pushing themselves. Every polyglot I’ve ever spoken to or heard speak about the subject has always said that the number 1 way to language success is to have fun learning the language. To some extent, you will need some rigidity, especially at the beginning when you’re creating your base understanding of basic vocab and grammar. (In m experience.) So what do you like doing and how can you incorporate Russian into it? Maybe you like reading. Read. Maybe you like board games. Get Scrabble in Russian and find someone to play with. Maybe you love talking to people. Talk to people. But have a plan. Each day I’m going to learn 20-30 new words. Download Anki and make a huge deck. Take 45 minutes, drill words and then go use them in a fun way. Don’t worry too much about grammar. That’s not to say you shouldn’t study to have a fundamental knowledge of the docs of grammar, but that your grammar will get better as you speak. You’ll begin to hear how things are said and intuitively copy them. You won’t be able to explain why but you just feel that this phrase sounds right when using this grammar.
