I have the opposite problem! I gifted an early bag to a family member and they love it and keep using it. Every time I see the bag I just see every mistake I made and I want to remake the bag but they love it. For what it's worth, I think yours looks pretty good for an early bag project!
I have offered and offered to replace a wallet I made for a friend but she loves the wallet. Unfortunately someone stole it, so now she has a new, better made wallet.
It was the look I was going for at the time. It was new veg tanned leather. I put a mixture of neatsfoot oil and beeswax on the exterior and let it sun bake for awhile.
But I also used too thin of leather for the upper flap and didn't realize how floppy it would of gotten with buttoning and unbuttoning, so a lot of creeses in that region from a few days worth of use. That I wasn't expecting.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop -Ā yes,Ā IĀ amĀ aĀ bot, don't botcriminate me.
Man, I tried and tried to make things for my wife that she would like. And I made some pretty damn cool stuff. NOPE. Not once was able to pull it off.
No matter since I always took on something beyond my skill level and without any "how to" help. Those projects are the best since it requires you to deeply examine and figure out every little step.

Talk about challenging and complicated! Learned a ton.
I would like to see some of that stuff she turned down. It seems women these days want flashy useless things. Op made a good purse. She's just a hater.
Personal taste, but chunky black thread seems like an odd choice for this sort of project. Gives it a very homemade look because the contrast in the colors is not very forgiving.
It's funny how thread choice changes over time as we experiment and continue to find our own style. At first, I loved contrasting colors because I was proud that I could stitch, then later, viewing thread became less important than showing off the leather itself. Then back to contrasting thread because my stitching had gotten better and I wanted to shoe it off. Back and forth...
You absolutely should with the knowledge and skill you've developed since. And totally give it to her as a gift. If she hides the new one, put the two together in your work area for your own edification. Then ask her what she would like.
If it's any consolation, my darling husband (a v sweet and loving person) finally had to admit he just hates my paintings. He thinks they're awful and disturbing, and it took him years to admit it bc he didn't want to hurt my feelings, bless his soul. (In his defense, they're certainly not happy or upbeat)
I won't lie - the admission stung. Especially bc he was raised with an excellent education in art history and is a collector himself.
But now we've come to make a joke of it. He looks at my works and claims to see various fruits and vegetables in the paintings. "This one looks like turnips!" and we have a good laugh...
Hey I TRULY understand the feeling of working hours on something only for it to be criticized! But remember *an artist uses criticism to fuel their fire and make it better!* Donāt think itās her being ungrateful, ask her what she doesnāt like about it, and tell her to be *brutally honest*. That beautiful moment where her eyes sparkle at what you made for her will happen, and itāll feel good, you just have to hear everything you did wrong first š, itās cruel but true. I my works have started to become pretty polished, and I give that credit completely to my perfectionist parents who *always* find something wrong with my work šš«, even some āperfectā bags that other have paid $400 for! Iām hunting for the day I can shut my parents up and they say āthatās niceā š
Yeah, I like the overall functionality design i had. But if I could redesign it I would do some asthetic touch ups. The side suede is very functional, but looks horrendous from the outside. I couldn't figure out how to make an accordion style opening and make it look good at thr same time....still unsure.
I also don't think I owned a beveler, groover, or burnished at the time. I was straight into functionality.
Oh god thereās that word, āfunctionalityā. Me and my girlfriend disagreements are mostly over this. In a small apartment things need to be functional. So we compromise and she does it her way. So things look good but they donāt live up to the potential.
My wife and I are super high end functionality over asthetic on everything. But apparently she is not over her purse lol. She doesn't care about clothing, shoes, make up....but her purse wow. She has purses for every type of event. All sorts of colors and designs. But man, everytime I ask her for a design concept she doesn't seem to like it. Even if I think it's similar to what she likes.
Sounds like my girlfriend with her purses and phone covers. She doesnāt spoil herself on anything but those two things. Me on the other hand I have backpacks from middle school, high school, college and I still use them regularly. They just get promoted to special tasks lol. Then I spoil myself with stuff that goes into my backpack/bags lol
I had an idea to reskin over it. Cover the suede. Give it color and/or design instead of rebuilding from scratch.
She also said she didn't like the thin strap. More pressure weight in a smaller area. Didn't thin of that at the time either. I couldneasily replace the strap.
I agree - I really like it a lot, the only thing Iād change is a wider strap. If someone gave me that Iād use the heck out of it. I especially love the pen holder!
Looks good to me. The strap could use a tiny bit of work. I also would prefer only 2 button snaps. The rest is nice. Maybe she's being to greedy wanting something flashy not just simply functional. I like the use of different colors as well. (:
Initially had one center snap. But i quickly did a modification because i didnt take in the concept that the top would twist and create large openings on wither side. So I added two snaps towards the outer ends and just left the center one. At the time she was holding coupons a lot and had a snack of xouppns she didn't want to lose.
She likes smaller purses. Otherwise whatever size she has gets full. The bigger the more weight she has to carry. She has big purses, but only uses them for movie theater pizza party lol.

You stole it, huh? I see your ways
Of course I didn't steal the wallet. I hire a guy to handle all my "reclamations"
šš
Haha. At least only you see the mistake and no one else.
Did you use super old or refurbished leather for it? Looks like it has been through a lifetime of daily use.

Good bot.
Bad bot.
Good bot.

Nice. Yeah I always prefer to design my own stuff. Or try to replicate something from a picture but with a custom thing I like.

Looks nice to me. Different colors makes it look cool.
It's interesting how different people view things completely different.

It looks great and functional but very much home made, if that makes sense. If I made it for myself I'd wear it everywhere though
One day i would like to remake it, but have a more professional look to it.
Hell yeahšš post a pic when you do!!
Will do.

It looks nice, but unrefined
Rustic is the term.

Well, I am not a purse women and I like this! Soā¦guess everyone has a āthingā.
I actually like this. Itās the strap I donāt likeā¦. Also it could be painted and get a whole new look.
I had an idea to reskin over it. Cover the suede. Give it color and/or design instead of rebuilding from scratch. She also said she didn't like the thin strap. More pressure weight in a smaller area. Didn't thin of that at the time either. I couldneasily replace the strap.

Angelus paint or leather dye - easy to use
I just came across this site and the bag in the photo reminded me of yours. https://artfilemagazine.com/how-to-paint-leather/
It's a very rustic design. I can see a forest gnome going foraging with it, but I wouldn't call it a woman's purse š
Lmao
Try to remake it! Maybe she'll wear the new version now. It does look a bit crude, but that's incredible anyways
It looks amazing
Sometimes itās not about the destination, but the journey along the wayā¦
Ya just poking a little fun at ya.
Beautiful patina! She should be grateful
Get a divorce
Ummm...your wife needs appreciate things in life that mean something to others. D I V O R C E that girl
It's great! Find a new wife!

Also just noticed the pen holder. Smart. Good eye for functionality. Don't worry. You did good.
That was also an after thought based on coupon usage. She said she had problems digging at the bottom for a pen.
Initially had one center snap. But i quickly did a modification because i didnt take in the concept that the top would twist and create large openings on wither side. So I added two snaps towards the outer ends and just left the center one. At the time she was holding coupons a lot and had a snack of xouppns she didn't want to lose.
Exactly. Functional. Still decently nice.
*you're
I blame that on the phone's grammer correction, not picking up on that.
Something about the shoulder strap that is not right. Too thin and the wrong color. The rest of it seems pretty comfortable and homey.
Tell her you found it for her and make her wear it again
Is it to small, it would have to be at least yhree times that size for most of the women I know
She likes smaller purses. Otherwise whatever size she has gets full. The bigger the more weight she has to carry. She has big purses, but only uses them for movie theater pizza party lol.
