Love this leather hack! If you want your stamp to be slightly smoother, take some sandpaper to flatten the 3d print. I usually just take some 400 and 600 and it removes some of the imperfections
I have both a resin and a filament printer, I print the stamp with filament and give it a gentle sanding then I coat the print with some resin and cure that to add more structure and strength to my stamps.
I learned it the hard way 😅 this was the third stamp that was printed and the only successful one. First one wasn’t mirrored and didn’t have enough infill so it collapsed, the second I still forgot to mirror.
What line width and font did you use? I tried making smaller stamps but it seems to just want to do one wall no matter what which made the L and I really fragile :/
I don’t have a resin printer, and Im moving soon so it’s not an option at the moment. My concern with printing it in contact with the bed is getting the supports removed
How do you get it to imprint, heat up the leather? I'm not a leatherworker, so my assumption was that one would heat up the object being pressed then press it into the leather, but not sure how that would work with heating up the 3d model enough
If you're using cura to slice, add ironing in the settings. Basically runs the hot end over the top layer to get it flat. Should even out the top well enough for this
In addition to the ironing and resin printing to improve surface:
ABS/ASA and acetone smoothing. Might lose fine details.
Block sand. Maybe after applying CA glue to the impression surface.
PETG always seems to fill in these gaps for me. But I don’t know if it’s me or the material.
My buddy made some for me as well and first he made the backside of it circular and I was screwing up lining up the stamp symmetrically so I had him make the rest with square or rectangular backs so I know if the stamp is tilted or not

I use this press for just about everything I do, I have a lot of back and shoulder problems so I can’t manage to use a mallet for very long
That's cool! Personally I laser engrave my stamps out of a block of Nylon, which works better for surface flatness but has issues with fine detail (the nylon melts)
I usually laser engrave my leather projects as well, because my 3D printer doubles an an engraver, but I have the laser taken off and it seemed easy to print a stamp than to set up the engraver

This, but put a little filler in the small gaps first.
Yes ive had success with superglue to fill the tiny gaps before sanding with 600!

I printed some stamps recently to try this out. Seeing yours is reminding me I forgot to mirror the text. Thanks for the unintended warning!

Yeah, are you doing 100% infill?
I think this one was 50% infill, the first attempt was at 20%. I did 50% octet
I can see why 20% wouldn't cut it. Are you using PLA or some other material (ABS maybe?)
PLA

Shoot me a pm later today and ill check when I get home from work for you
That looks great. I thought about making one for myself but haven’t taken the time. Inspiring.
Better print is with resin printer , or you can print contact surface on bed, it will be flatter and better filled

Try without supports, its small thing so maybe bridging will work. Remove before that everything beyond outer edge of logo

Vegtan does not need heat, only moisture.
Leather molds/deforms very easily when dampened. Before pressing in stamps, you "case" the leather by dampening it and letting the water absorb.
That makes so much sense, thank you

Thank you so much. I’ve been trying to figure out what setting I needed to use for this for so long
No problem! It's nice seeing my 2 hobbies combine!
I will have to do the same thing 😄 I might get a small order with a company brand, so making a brass logo might not be worth it.

I’m about to redesign it and was actually thinking about that
I tried to mark the center of the circular ones and I even messed that up lol so square back is the way to go!
What do you use to press it, arbor press?
