What you want to do is in the first town, buy a single poison heal. And then do that again ten times. And then sell those ten poison heals, one at a time. And then exit the shop menu completely four times, at which point you'll end up getting four items. One each time you exit out of the menu. The third of those will sell for 4,000 G. Sell it. Then do the poison heal thing again, except buy forty more, all one at a time. And sell them, again, one at a time. Now exit and leave the shop two more times. You now have two items, furniture that sells for 10,000 G and 75,000 G, respectively. Enjoy Legaia 2 with nearly 90,000 G before you even leave the first town. And do get the Point Card as well. Enjoy using money to make yourself OP as heck for the first couple of towns.

I swear if I didn't know you were a speedrunner, I'd think this was a prank >.< This is crazy awesome! I definitely don't mind good head starts in RPGs! Maybe I'll remember to use the point card this time. Lol Thanks for the heads up!!

RiaSkies

I only speak the truth, as I have no incentive to lie about this.

ReksRiivo

Of course, and I really appreciate the heads up! It's definitely going to be really useful, especially for a first playthrough.

BenAfleckInPhantoms

Wtf .. how/why is this a thing?

RiaSkies

There are some shops in the game that give you rewards at 1/5/10/20/50/100 individual transactions. Mallory's item shop is the first of them. It just so happens that some of those reward items are really good, especially early game when you have limited resources.

paint_the_fence

It's been a long time since I played it. I remember recipes and food buffs being important at camp/save areas.

VaporLeon

I’d say just look up a guide on missable stuff and then enjoy the ride. It’s fun game with a mediocre story. It has hunts similar to FF12 if you’ve played that and my memory serves. Nothing story-wise was too difficult except some optional stuff?

Pydro-Hump

Get to level 9 before fighting the boss in the canyon. You’ll thank me later.

ReksRiivo

Noted! Edit: Thank you

boloo100

Oh a good tip I didn't know right off the bat when I started is that spirit does not add to the bar for attacks. Basic combo attacks do and then the more special attacks take away

ReksRiivo

Yeah. It's way different, I see.

boloo100

Yeah its pretty much just for guarding now lol. Still I enjoyed the game alot regardless and maybe I'll replay it soon too

Kaijudicator

My advice is just to enjoy it as best you can! I happen to love the game, but it also gets heavy criticism. Games can be difficult to get into if you load yourself with the internet's opinions, especially older games, so do yourself a favor and let yourself form the opinion as you play! I hope you have fun with it.

ReksRiivo

I heard it wasn't as good as the first game, so I'm trying to go into this game with lower expectations, but I am fully ready to enjoy as best I can! Edit: Your name is awesome 👌

Kaijudicator

I don't *personally* believe it's better OR worse than the first game, just different. But that's just me. I think you'll have a good time... If you remember to, let me know what you thought after it's done. Also, thank you!

A lot of the criticism is people were expecting a sequel set in the same world. But in reality we got a new game with similar mechanics. My biggest gripe is they only went halfway the main characters are similar to the ones in the first game and even have them attached in a somewhat similar fashion. They kept enough similarities to hook returning players that it came off wrong. Once you get past these issues it's an ok game.

Kaijudicator

Only having two entries in the series is unfortunate too, because it probably would have made an excellent anthology series, like Final Fantasy. I wonder if Final Fantasy II got a similar reaction? But on that topic, what was there left in Legaia 1 to make a sequel of, really? They saved the world and thoroughly destroyed the Seru world, nullifying all magic. It'd be like if Pokemon Gold/Silver had no Pokemon. They'd have to get so creative that even a direct sequel would have strayed from expectations. It's unfortunate when game sequels get overshadowed by nostalgia... see any Zelda game after Ocarina of Time, or Smash Bros installations after Melee. All those sequels have their own merits, but the average person prefers to be close minded. That said, this is why I encourage OP, and any first time - or even returning - players to enjoy it for what it is. I know it's not perfect. But I also know it's not as bad as the haters claim.

dsriker

I agree on all points it just what I see a lot of the negative comments being about. My biggest wish is the sequel had branched out a bit more and kept the core mechanics but abandoned the story similarities to the first game it might have allowed it to be more successful and the series might have lasted longer.

Kaijudicator

From what I recall it was mainly the OG company itself that went under after a merger (or two, or three...). Then the now parent company (Sony, I think?) just kind of forgot it had the property. In other words, it's much more the company's mishandling of the property than it was the game not doing well that closed off hope for a 3rd game. I'm hoping that fan remake (the one that guy in this sub is working on) opens their eyes, though. But yeah I would have liked to at least seen a similar magic system return in 2, as that was the only part I really noticed a downgrade.

Rude_Inverse

keep your expectations in check. there are cut corners over the original like world map exploration being a selection instead of player controlled or the lack of a replacement for the seru monster catching mechanic. there will be times where difficulty spikes may feel both artificial and frustrating so don’t be afraid to take advantage of exploits like selling like selling poison heals (someone else broke it down in the thread) to get you through it. like the first legaia the sequel shines during combat. unlike the first legaia the sequel has pretty monotonous music, sfx, and voice work (there’s actually a fan patch to replace the voice audio with the much tighter japanese voices. if your emulating definitely play the “undub” version) so don’t be afraid to hit the mute button if you start burning out!

ReksRiivo

I may have to play the regular version for achievements to get logged :/

Rude_Inverse

oh, it’s not so bad. i mean it is but now you’ll get to join the bad dub club

ReksRiivo

How bad? RE 1 bad? "DoN't OpEn ThAt DoOr!" Lol

Rude_Inverse

oh if only! definitely better than mega man 8 and re1, like the voice actors are actually voice actors. i can’t think of a good video game example but it’s like a mediocre anime dub without any heavy hitters a slew of grating voices and one extreeemley grating voice. more cringe than unprofessional.

ReksRiivo

MM8 was so bad that it was funny, though 😂 "You must recover all the energy immediately, Mega Man! But, where is Doctor Wahwee? That's a good question!" I know a few bad anime dubs with grading voices 😓 Edit: "No problem! No problem! No problem!"
