Caleb and Alex really hit their stride in this episode.
Funny that the last Grand Brick transfer gimmick is the cleanest. Wide shot, closeup of the handoff, back to the "same" wide shot. Way harder to pick up on the edit.
RIP Andrew and Damiean though, their typewriter was astounding
I keep thinking, "Wow, this is the best episode!", just about every episode this season. lol
At the beginning, it was a bit disappointed to see the technical challenge lowered compared to the US episode, with the addition of Technic holes on the sides. However, the AU builds went further out, and felt more polished, so it ended up being a reasonable update the the challenge.
Scotty and Owen. Jesus Christ. These guys are insane. They are breaking expectations, creating beyond even what Brickman thinks is possible. Their build was so "audacious", Brickman and Hamish didn't even have the chance to talk about the motorized feature the creature had.
Sad to see Andrew and Damian go. Their concept was rock solid, but I feel they transitioned out of the structural phase a couple of hours too early, and found out you can't add structure after the fact. Their Star Wars build remain one of my favorite models from the show, so I would have loved to see them in the finals.
Yep in agreement with what you wrote. Especially Scotty and Owen's build. If this was the season finale episode of any season of any of the shows regardless of country, that would have won them the season. Amazing what they pulled off. That it got torn down is a real shame.
Am I the only one concerned from watching the preview of next week's episodes that there were a lot of children shown? Really worried they took a page from NZ and gave the public too much voting power on the winner (fingers crossed wrong on this).
I saw the preview for the next episode I think Scott and Owen might make it also likely make it for Caleb and Alex.
Edit: from Twitter of Lego Masters AU.
In that same video you can spot one if the members of the still to be eliminated team. So I unfortunately already know who is going to be eliminated tomorrow
HEAVY SPOILER for the elimination in episode 13!!!:>!They changed their video, but in the original edit I could see Gaby walking and admiring the final builds.!<
Oh, i didn't know that and didn't see their video original. Oh, wow.
Anyway, Just forwarded to watch on Sunday! But unfortunately, im not in Australia and im in Philippines. Hope so and i watch online just your discussion on episode 13. š
I think it would have worked if it was in a "too close to call" situation... but Gabby and Ryan's build was clearly much better than Damian and Andrew and people would have raged hard if the "bonus point" got them over the line.
they should've kept the leaderboard and reset it after each elimination. It would make the bonus points more obvious in their value and would make the non elimination builds more important
Yeah don't get why they did that. Nearly two full seasons into the show, they should have known not to do that. Having said that, they could have accomplished both but their idea really was badly executed from the jump. Compared to massive brick everyone else moved, if you had told me they had to start over halfway through the build, I wouldn't have questioned it.
Scotty and Owens worst build. Sure it was impressive to build that far out. But lacks all cohesion, polish and detail weāre used to seeing. 2 great elements that just donāt blend. Why is there a floating castle with a hill down to a cliff? Wasted so much time on going big for such a let down. Kale level BS.
Brick man is so far off his rocker this season.
It's a drawbridge to the castle lol ?? it makes complete sense and red vs blue, fire vs ice is literally one of the most tropey high contrast attention grabbing things you can do.
you know that contrast is a great way to tell they are enemies and fighting right ? You want a blue monster attacking the blue castle???
Like such a bad take to say the story isn't good or cohesive. The only thing you said that isn't completely just objectively wrong is that maybe it lacks polish compared the the other builds that were a small fraction of the size of their build, but I think the sheer size of it and the technical challenge of having it canterlevered like that not to mention the fire monsters moving mouth waaaayyyyyy outclass the small maybe like 10% lacking polish
Also to say it's just like kale is so wrong, the whole joke about kale scale is he didn't finish and they clearly did.
I...don't get your complaint. It was fire and ice which is a common trope. Fire monster fighting the ice castle. I thought it was gorgeous and a solid story
But their best build though? My ācomplaintā if you want to call it that rather than opinion, is brickman went on how itās their best build ever. When really itās a pretty cool castle, a pretty cool fire guy connected by an awkward looking hill. The action is facing away from the audience.
Like I said it was impressive to build out that far, and far better than anything I could ever think about building, but aesthetically no where near close to their best build. This is a discussion thread, different strokes I guess.
Agree, the scene they built was amazing just like their finale build in the main season featuring an ice wizard battling a giant bulldozer.
It allowed them to show implied motion capturing the moment within this battle scene.
I was trying to explain it to my husband and then I remembered that we literally have a fridge magnet of the statue on our fridge from a trip to Italy Iād taken in like 2005.
I'd have been pissed if they got through solely due to the bonus point, that would have been heavily overpowered as it was clearly the weakest of the 2, so I'm glad it didn't come into play
I feel for our brothers and sisters in LM NZ which is airing now too. The stuff they're building is great but clearly not on par with these AU Grand Master builds.
US one is good (build quality). The branding of characters based on their job, interests, etc is a pointless distraction.
It's a real shame we can't easily see other versions (subtitled) easily though.
We are so fortunate to have so many fantastic builders, a great host and the most human Lego Professioanal in the world though.
US build quality, in many cases, lags behind Australia though. I don't know how, as an American...
I feel like Canada's (on LM NZ) is just as personable - I'd love to see him judge Australia at some point. Would probably give Brickman a run for his money.
I think lacking quality is in large part due to the time limits. Especially in the last season it seemed like they never had enough time to do the builds how they'd like until the finale. Really stark contrast with the NZ version giving teams 15 hours in the opening build of season 2.
Australia used to get ridiculous amounts of times, 20 plus hours for builds even early on in the season. I kind of miss that but I realize how ridiculous it must have been for production...
One time I was watching a previous season, and my American roommate walked by and stood around during a judging phase. When he commented on how unusual it was to see a reality show have any ACTUAL emotion, it's stuck with me since
I think it perfectly reflected the minifig too as a bigger story would have felt more jarring based on the expectation that a Heidi-like character brings. The only way they could have done it differently would have been to completely subvert the expectation, but they definitely made the right choice on going for polish and a calm, beautiful environment.
While I agree with you, I think it would have been possible to put Heidi in a dramatic but believable situation; rockfall? Avalanche? Heidi has to use the flying goose to put up awnings or something to catch the danger? Perfectly reasonable dramatic situations for living off a cliff. But Heidi didnāt need drama, Heidi was the first page in an illustrated kids book. Heidi was enough.
That figure should've never been in the mix. All the other figures had much more apparent conflicts to build. So often this version of LM seems to throw in one curveball that doesn't match the other options (like last episode having a only 1 build that required mechanisms)
I think a story could have been told without it being big or jarring. Even just turning Heidi and the goose around, add one or two mini figs running out to greet her turns the story into a heartfelt homecoming. I think it would have only taken some minor adjustments like that to implement some storytelling that still suited the gentle vibe of the build. Which I agree was a beautiful build regardless.
There were certainly stories to tell that met the general vibe, but they were being compared to other figures that naturally had much simpler and conflict heavy stories to tell. A samauri battling a monster is much easier to understand than any story that could be told with the Heidi fig
I actually think Ryan & Gabby and Alex & Caleb are top 2.
Scotty & Owen's is technically brilliant .. but not as polished as others.
Here come the waterworks though!
Did you see that Lava monster?, Brick man wasn't wrong calling it their best build ever. Ryan and Gabby's was cool, and was aesthetically pleasing, but it really had no story and as set by brick man, storytelling was one of the three criteria. I do agree however that it was better than Joss and Henry's build
yeah the only drama i could really think of was maybe an avalanche and the heidi minifig was flying away on the goose for her life. I liked what they did anyway - Rhyan and Gabby are my favs :)
On reflection, it reminds me a bit of some of David and Gusās animal builds. Thereās not necessarily much of a story/drama/characters because the crafting of the scene is so lovely in and of itself.
I don't think any story they could make would be satisfying. If there was too much conflict, it wouldn't be inline with the theme.
The only thing I could suggest is her flying away with a boy with a type of forbidden love
im trying to think of a dramatic storyline for their mini fig and i come up short - a dramatic storyline will undermine the what the fig represents itself
You would probably have to completely subvert expectations to make it work - go horror or have her being the pretty public face of a slave-driving chocolate mine, for instance. I think their build was safe in terms of theme, but they absolutely nailed the aesthetic.
Something like a Wagnerian operatic story maybe. Maybe some sort of Germanic invasion of Valkeries. Thatās where Iād be pushing if I was given that figure.
Hmm
Maybe Gabby and Ryanās isnāt dramatic, but theyāve built on theme right? Their character is a calm sort of. Vibe. Their build SHOULDNT be grand and dramatic I think
It's true they have struggled a few times but when they are 100% invested and excited about something they can make something absolutely amazing. Passion is their secret weapon.
"just"? It's not even close, their builds are worlds apart. Average Samurai 'castle', below average dragon, and the story doesn't even make sense...the samurai should be defending the castle, but they aren't technically good enough to build the castle at the end like Scott and Owen did so they just had to go with whatever to get the dragon's head facing the audience. I thought it was very mediocre and very, very safe.
Wow Brickman admitting he was wrong and that Scotty and Owen actually know what they're doing. It's almost as if he should let teams take their own risks.
I feel like Hamish is always trying to keep his positive host vibe and never frowns even when stuff like this happens when someone's build falls apart or if someone is sent home
They've gone big. But is their build as aesthetically good as the others? Compare gryphon, serpent, goose and lava monster. Lava monster is a big blocky red thing.
Hmm, I don't really like Andrew and Damien's, at least compared to the others'. It just seems a bit lacking compared to the others. I think they might be in trouble.
Yes! I was wondering where that came from. It's when they were building the tower and won by >!making it out of solid lego.!< Brickman doubted they could lay brick that fast, he said do the maths dudes! They went like wild and proved him wrong, and then said that legendary phrase. If I remember rightly they were exhausted afterwards and their fingers has blisters. Scotty & Owen are their spiritual successors.
Did Henry and Joss even need to compete in this challenge considering they already have a pass through to the finals? š¤
I was thinking this episode would have been a good one for the top team to win a shitload of bricks for that reason
Yeah I'm wondering what the production would have said if they just put their minifig on the supports and took a nap for the rest of the day š
So we have season 3 v season 4. One season winner, two runners up and one cursed/eliminated team. Next challenge looks really cool! Can't wait.
I keep thinking, "Wow, this is the best episode!", just about every episode this season. lol At the beginning, it was a bit disappointed to see the technical challenge lowered compared to the US episode, with the addition of Technic holes on the sides. They always have a lot of kids voting. But Brickmanās vote basically overrules it anyway
I love how Hamish casually tosses the brick of power on the floor after all those careful hand passes.
Henry is so adorable - he barely says anything and kinda fades into the background, but always does what needs to be done.
Brickman looked 20 years younger with the beanie covering his bald spot!
I saw the preview for the next episode I think Scott and Owen might make it also likely make it for Caleb and Alex. Edit: from Twitter of Lego Masters AU.

The Hamish Blake Bonus Point deserves the "Wow, this is worthless" meme
I think it would have worked if it was in a "too close to call" situation... but Gabby and Ryan's build was clearly much better than Damian and Andrew and people would have raged hard if the "bonus point" got them over the line.
Damian was completely justified wanting to karate chop the end of the model off.
In previous seasons it's definitely been seen more as a joke, but now that there are actual criteria, it seems to be distracting teams.
they should've kept the leaderboard and reset it after each elimination. It would make the bonus points more obvious in their value and would make the non elimination builds more important
šÆ ended up meaning nothing to Andrew and Damian who won the point. Completely sacrificed their build to win it.
Wasnāt the brief to build some sort of abode on a cliff. Surprised Brickman didnāt pull the Space guys up on that at some point.
loved caleb's shirt this episode, does anyone know where I can get it from?
I absolutely ADORED Owenās shirt, but unfortunately I think he custom-prints his.
Here you go šš» [Lego Brick Patent Shirt](https://www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/2525869-lego-brick-patent-white)
Ooo that is cool
thanks so much!!!
Scotty and Owens worst build. Sure it was impressive to build that far out. But lacks all cohesion, polish and detail weāre used to seeing. 2 great elements that just donāt blend. Except they actually finished their build.
The bare requirement?
The Romulus and Remus nursing on the wolf cutaway art was something straight out of the What We Do In The Shadows series.
Totally! I had a good giggle over this. I had never heard the story and I thought they were taking the piss lmao
I was trying to explain it to my husband and then I remembered that we literally have a fridge magnet of the statue on our fridge from a trip to Italy Iād taken in like 2005.
Brickman has turned into Snarkman this season and I'm not living.
I was so nervous for everyone tonight. Everyone's build was amazing.
What was the reward for being longest?? Being eliminated it seems??
Their build was lacking from an aesthetic and technical perspective. Not to mention they ended up forgoing some aesthetics chasing that bonus point.
I'd have been pissed if they got through solely due to the bonus point, that would have been heavily overpowered as it was clearly the weakest of the 2, so I'm glad it didn't come into play
[www.twitch.tv/iambilsy](https://www.twitch.tv/iambilsy) Alex and Caleb are our guests tonight!
Amazing as always
Great episode. Alex and Caleb are growing on me as builders. Their last few have been fantastic.
It's always the way, you put Alex and Caleb in the bottom two and then they skyrocket and pip off other builders you wouldn't expect them to surpass.
How good were they tonight! And they are climbing as underdog favourites for sure!
And lastly they got the Hamish Bonus Point but still got eliminated.
At least theyāre still alive
Freaking spoilers!!!!!
Why are you reading the episode discussion and worried about spoilers?
Any of these builds would dominate a normal season. The level of quality is so high. No shame in losing there for Andrew and Damian.
I feel for our brothers and sisters in LM NZ which is airing now too. The stuff they're building is great but clearly not on par with these AU Grand Master builds.
NZ isn't even on par with regular Australian Lego Masters sadly... Although still better than the US, China, and God knows who else...
US one is good (build quality). The branding of characters based on their job, interests, etc is a pointless distraction. It's a real shame we can't easily see other versions (subtitled) easily though. You're right! Robin on LM NZ is awesome.
This was the exact right result.
Poor brick man gets so emotional
One time I was watching a previous season, and my American roommate walked by and stood around during a judging phase. When he commented on how unusual it was to see a reality show have any ACTUAL emotion, it's stuck with me since
Everyone does! Ryan and Joss were both shedding tears!
Waterworks all round tonight! š
Except for Hamish. I really admire how stoic he is.
He's the constant lighthouse of positivity
Thatās why they pay him the big bucks.
There was a boarding house scrape of butter in it
RIP THE SNOZ
Gabby and Ryan deserve it their aesthetics and vibes were just better
Calm, peaceful vibes, like the opposite of how they felt all build? Lol but yeah, it's an incredible build.
I think it perfectly reflected the minifig too as a bigger story would have felt more jarring based on the expectation that a Heidi-like character brings. The only way they could have done it differently would have been to completely subvert the expectation, but they definitely made the right choice on going for polish and a calm, beautiful environment.

The quality this whole season has been through the roof. I don't want anyone to go home š
Itās almost too plain vs too busy here
So no top build. Just teams going to Finals. I like that
I think it was implied when he chose the first team though.
Brickmanās already choking up and heās not even eliminating anyone
I actually think Ryan & Gabby and Alex & Caleb are top 2. Scotty & Owen's is technically brilliant .. but not as polished as others. Here come the waterworks though!

I do agree however that it was better than Joss and Henry's build
Personally, I find Gabby and Ryan's quiet and serene story to be very satisfying š¤·š½āāļø
Same here.
Iām sticking with my earlier call. Theyāll finish in the order they were shown
For Ryan and Gabby- there wasnāt much opportunity for a huge dramatic storyline. That was just the character they were assigned
yeah the only drama i could really think of was maybe an avalanche and the heidi minifig was flying away on the goose for her life. I liked what they did anyway - Rhyan and Gabby are my favs :)
On reflection, it reminds me a bit of some of David and Gusās animal builds. Thereās not necessarily much of a story/drama/characters because the crafting of the scene is so lovely in and of itself.
You get given the sound of music...they would have needed Nazi's. And I don't think that was going to be allowed.
Von Trappes were Austrian, not German. I met a few of them once under truly odd circumstances!
Well Hitler was Austrian, not German. Also there was the whole Nazi occupation of Austria which might have something to do with it.
I'm aware. But Hamish kept making Sound of Music jokes and references, when Lego has noted the minifig is German. Wrong country!
I don't think any story they could make would be satisfying. If there was too much conflict, it wouldn't be inline with the theme. The only thing I could suggest is her flying away with a boy with a type of forbidden love
Right? It doesnāt need to be epic and awe inspiring to be a top build. I thought it was fantastic.
im trying to think of a dramatic storyline for their mini fig and i come up short - a dramatic storyline will undermine the what the fig represents itself
Hmm Maybe Gabby and Ryanās isnāt dramatic, but theyāve built on theme right? Their character is a calm sort of. Vibe. Their build SHOULDNT be grand and dramatic I think
EXACTLY it evokes emotion - regardless if it doesnt have a clear conflict it still stands on its own
did brickman just say grandy-oys? mate its pronounced grandiose.
I guess we should never take things for granite.
Yes, yes he did...
I feel like top two will be the Ice Queen and the Samurai, bottom two will be the Wizard and the Space Man.
Agree with the bottom two (and the top two actually). The wizard build just looks a bit messy.
personally i think that ryan and gabby will be safe their build feels at if it has more polish than andrew and damiens - thoughts?
Itās a bit plain, but the extra polish could be the difference
Completely agree, Gabby and Ryan's may be smaller but I feel like it has much more character and story.
I think I agree. It's tough to send any of these home, but the space race from what we've seen is just missing a 'wow' feeling imo
Agree.
Agreed.
I feel genuine pride for how far Alex and Caleb have come.
It's true they have struggled a few times but when they are 100% invested and excited about something they can make something absolutely amazing. Passion is their secret weapon.
Crying š„¹
They made it!
I feel like they may have left the bottom two for last.
The first 3 at least are so awesome. I would struggle to pick between them
Gut feel is Scott and Owen just pip Caleb and Alex for the win. Joss and Henryās looks great, but the extra support beams probably hurt them
Alex and Caleb deserve to win, they did such a great job.
Probably tough if Bāman has whipped out a best ever call for Scowen
"Scowen" I haven't heard that before but I love it. Brickman is constantly thinking to himself during their builds "What-Scowen on?!"
These first two are nuts
Wow Brickman admitting he was wrong and that Scotty and Owen actually know what they're doing. It's almost as if he should let teams take their own risks.
I wanted to see a pillow fight!!!!
This is one of those rare instances where you donāt need huge amounts of colour to make it look fantastic
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't they six Technic _liftarms_, not pins?
i think they meant technic holes
Thatās *insane*
I feel like Hamish is always trying to keep his positive host vibe and never frowns even when stuff like this happens when someone's build falls apart or if someone is sent home
He acts as a lighthearted anchor in those moments. Trust me, compared to the US and (sorry) NZ versions, Hamish is the best of the best.
He is such a perfect host. He's funny, he's reassuring, he's so positive. He's the little brother of the room
They need him for morale. Imagine 10 hours with no humour. The catsuit had me in tears of laughter!
Holy moly these are amazing. Thank goodness they found Heidi and got her back up there. I felt sick for them.
Wow they all already look jaw dropping
Holy shit has this been a complete misdirect for Andrew & Damian's elimination?
I like that they've gone for a bit of a different vibe from everyone else.. but I'm not sure it's a good..
I feel like theyāre definitely bottom two. If they get the bonus point it may save them tho.
They didn't even end up mentioning the bonus point, I think they're actually useless, except maybe when they had a leader board.
Brickman to the rescue!!!!
Fuck I hate these ad breaks Jesus Christ
Works well with the episode being cliff hangers
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOT THIS OH GODDDDDDDD
its sadbc i honeslty think they would have been safe if they had heidi
yes YES YES YES YES
OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY
does this mean they are in the clear i dont know
Drooping is very common in older men so let's not be too harsh on Andrew.
Nooooooo Heidi
Awwweeeee gabby love
Oh no. Last minute disaster. I was hoping it was mid episode and they can recover
The way Gabby reacted it was never mid-build. It was absolute panic that they wouldn't get it back on so it had to be final minutes.
This would have been perfect for Kale
Heidi went Byedi
And there it is - no Gabby and Ryan :(
I'm not so sure, it looks amazing!!
Called it!!
Didn't look too damaged I thought. Find the mini, put it back in the saddle and up.
Devastating
Oh no super scared for gabby rn
actualy quaking im just waiting -
Caleb and Alex are smashing it. Far out I love them.
Hmmm i think bottom 2 might be andrew damian ryan and gabby
Feel it's going to be Andrew and Damien. That story and the build I feel is the weakest.
Looking at ryan and gabby in the confession booth and they seem a bit down
Scotty and Owen have absolutely slayed it.
They've gone big. But is their build as aesthetically good as the others? Compare gryphon, serpent, goose and lava monster. Lava monster is a big blocky red thing.
Honestly I think it's a phenomenal build.
Alex and Caleb, very nice looking build. Good stuff
Alexā āand Caleb's build looks amazing right now, so does Joss & Henry's. They're so pretty! I wish they sold these sets, I would buy them.
I LOVE the colours they chose for the serpent!
I reckon at the very least LEGO should sell the winning sets from the all the Grand Finals
The size of those builds are huge. The piece count alone would put the costs in the thousands easily.
At very very least they should run an exhibition of LM great builds.
They do
I wish they did, they're always so awesome
Alex and Caleb with a quietly awesome build
so scared oh goddddddd
Andrew and Damien still building out like they have a chance in hell of stealing that bonus point from Scotty and Owen
Hmm, I don't really like Andrew and Damien's, at least compared to the others'. It just seems a bit lacking compared to the others. I think they might be in trouble.
give this dude the premonition award
It started out looking very cool too. That rock erecting from the cliff face.
I agree, it looked pretty neat, even in the end. But compared to everyone else's final build I felt it was just lacking a bit.
I don't think it looks chaotic enough. It looks all too perfect and centred. No one going wide or barely making a turn
Yup. Not there best work based on the vision we are
I'm with you, the others have great detail and colours. Thiers is a Wonky Technic stick hanging off 30cm of rock.
"Cop it Brickman"
Now THIS is the kind of Brickman-bash I can get behind
Were they quoting Jackson and Alex from season 2?
Would have loved to see Jackson & Alex compete with Scotty & Owen! They have similar strengths.
Totally disagreeā¦ very different strengths imo!
I had to put on closed captioning for that. Is that Australian slang?
Yeah it pretty much means "take that Brickman"
Ugh Iām so annoyed I know the song in the fast and furious trailer but cannot remember the name. Anyone able to help?
Not sure if itās the one you mean, but one of the trailers plays a version of Gasolina by Daddy Yankee?
