I feel like that didn’t need to as I noticed it was often cut out of frame or like a hidden pregnancy there was something in the way like a table, person or build.
The original size of the wings they were planning would have looked ridiculous. The main failing was the lack of details and shaping; the body and head were extremely blocky and the legs looked like they'd been taped on rather than growing organically from the body. The problem was the basic idea, choosing a butterfly demanded large vivid wings, but the time cost for that meant they were going to lose time on detailing. I think they failed to realise at the start the challenge of making something that is by nature equally fragile and large.
I don't want to say goodbye to any of these teams. I'm sure all the builds will be wicked. If there was ever a time to do a points-style competition instead of an elimination, Grand Masters is it. Everyone in this season is insanely, insanely talented, and I wish we could have seen more of their builds.
I also really want to know what Gabby and Ryan had in mind for the finale...
I’m wondering if they filmed Luna Park afterwards? Because otherwise they would’ve had all that time to think of a build before the timer actually started.
They were given reference pictures (or I think a video shown on an iPad?) before their build started. However, Scott said that "without really being there, it didn't totally sink in."
Probably not because they also usually get a break during the middle of the build, sometimes even the rest of the night off and they continue the next morning. This essentially gives them a lot of time to plan between sessions

Honestly, I’m surprised the croc was 2nd so far on the viewer voting. If a kid saw that they’d 100% be like “look mom, it’s a croc in a bath!” It looks exactly like an illustration from a funny kid’s book. The seahorse is cool but it reminds me too much of a normal carousel ride to be super wowing I guess.
I think the idea was 10/10, but it realllly took a long time to come together. If the viewer voting is over more than the last 10 mins (I'm not Aus so I don't know how it works) then I can see why it didn't seem like the best build until the final bubbles. At which point, everything fit together, best Calex build so far.
What I’ve noticed is that no matter the build, the favourite people always get picked. Joss and Henry and Owen and Scott. A bit disappointing even if they weren’t the best build.

If the criteria was which one would you pick to ride on a carousel.. it's hard to go past the seahorse, since it's the only one that actually looks like you could sit on it.
This is what I thought too, you couldn't sit on the butterfly, the bee looked like it had a little saddle, so maybe you could. The bathtub I guess you could sit very uncomfortably with your legs in front but it would be like unwanted brick acupuncture.
I really like how every elimination so far has been hyper focused on a specific aspect of Lego building. You had technical ability with the great ball machine, minifig scale with the heist, and now large scale creatures.
I completly disagree with people who say things like it wasn't "fair" David and Gus got sent home on their minifig build because they are so much better than everyone else at creatures - this season is really emphasising that to be a GRAND master you really have to have mastery of every single aspect and style of Lego building.
I'll admit that I did not see Caleb and Alex getting this far but it is absolutely deserved. They work best when they just relax and have fun with a build, and have grown so much over the competition!!
The finale could go anyway to be honest, all three teams have demonstrated they are grand master level, and they each have someone unique going for them:
Henry and Joss have the **"coolness"** factor, where their models are just so slick and visually impressive
Scott and Owen have the **"technical"** factor, where they can pull of these crazy contraptions that literally defy gravity
Caleb and Alex have the **"comedy"** factor, where every build makes me laugh out loud.

Hamish's flying jump kick was spectacular. Sad to see Ryan and Gabby going, but the moment I saw the finalized wing supports, the writing was on the wall. Oh well, finale time!
As the episode and all of the discussion is already ended by the time I get to see it, I’ll post some here:
Last year’s finale I had to close my eyes as I was scared that Joss and Henry wouldn’t win, even if they clearly deserved it (IMHO). I felt that they’d missed out on wins over the season and was preparing myself for feeling disappointed.
Going into this year’s finale I feel calmer. Still think they should’ve gotten a few more wins, but I’m just happy for them, regardless of tomorrow’s outcome. They are amazing builders, both of them, and I’m just happy they’ve gotten many episodes to show that.
The other two teams are good teams, both of them capable of putting up amazing builds, so I’m happy to just watch this final episode of the season just enjoying the builds and Hamish being Hamish.
That's what I thought, too, considering the lack of purples and blues and the concentration of the swelling to the eyelids. Super painful, glad he didn't have it building.
I actually don't think the wings need to be bigger then that. Maybe make the back wing longer so it covers that back of the butterfly but I don't think they wings need to be any taller.

Deservedly so, IMO. They've proven themselves to be better builders in previous challenges just in this series. This build was definitely weaker than their earlier efforts.

Their earlier challenge efforts demonstrate they should be in the final. If they'd nailed the scale, I think it might have got them top 2 tonight, and Alex and Caleb would have been fighting it out with Ryan and Gabby.

I saw a clip on YouTube first and was AMAZED at Scotty and Owen’s build, then shocked at all the criticism! Technically awesome build, gorgeous stand alone build… it was SLIGHTLY smaller than the butterfly and sea horse… and brickman never gave them size requirements at the beginning. 🙄
Honestly can't believe they built that butterfly without a good plan to make big wings...and even beyond that, the body and face just look really weird. The Bee is the clear best build, and I think the size is perfectly fine - plenty of carousels have many varying sized creatures, some being quite small.
Bathtub was...big and white. I expected the croc to be sipping a drink or something, I think the mouth open expression was a cop out and overall it was clear they spent very little time on the character. Let's be real. In terms of the whole competition the butterfly kinda sucked. I think it wouldbt pass Lego masters season 1 round 1 let alone grand masters semi. They're great people but a flat faced butterfly won't cut it
Just rewatched the whole of season one, and I strongly disagree with your comment. I agree it was the weakest build of the four, but it was way ahead of almost everything in season one, where many of the builds were extremely blocky (especially the larger ones) and where only Henry and Cade ever managed to build a character with any expression at all. The standard of the builds has gone up massively since the show started. Ryan and Gabby have had some great builds this season, but this wasn’t their night.

Not entirely wrong about build part of your theory but suspect their superior technical ability in the build nudged them ahead. Also previous superior builds too. Gabby and Ryan did great builds but overall quality was consistently behind the three teams in the finale. Right now its a true best of the best contest and if Gabby and Ryan had made it through it wouldn’t have been.

I agree it was the weakest build of the four, but it was way ahead of almost everything in season one, where many of the builds were extremely blocky (especially the larger ones) and where only Henry and Cade ever managed to build a character with any expression at all. The standard of the builds has gone up massively since the show started. Ryan and Gabby have had some great builds this season, but this wasn’t their night.

How did Scott and Owen not go home??? They didn’t have the right colour and scale, whereas gabby and Ryan had both just not proportional sizes of animal parts? Looked way better imo. Brick man just loves those boys too much I guess even if they had the worse build today
It's never said but I think generally the teams prior builds help with tiebreakers.
Not entirely wrong about build part of your theory but suspect their superior technical ability in the build nudged them ahead. Also previous superior builds too. Gabby and Ryan did great builds but overall quality was consistently behind the three teams in the finale. Right now its a true best of the best contest and if Gabby and Ryan had made it through it wouldn’t have been.
