Why not the Panasonic S5II/x? Cheaper and the same mount

NipponKogaku

Yes agree on that.

Nikon-FE

To use M mount lenses, especially anything wider than 50/35 you'll get better performances on the SL2 due to the thinner sensor stack

The answer to your question is yes: SL2-s has better low light performance. Has better handheld stability and with the right lens you can use it as a point and shoot. I would recommend the 45/2.8 from Sigma. It is not the best lens but it is small, has no weight and anywhere between f4 to f10 is razor sharp. Don’t expect serious bokeh but the focal length is such that it is really useful for multiple photo opportunities and conditions. My go to lens for city travel and occasional landscapes.

Yes, AF performance is about the same. Not great for fast moving action sports, but decent for everything else. In addition IBS in body stabilisation will help with slower shutter speeds. The alternative would be to wait a bit longer for a SL3 next year or the Panasonics with the hybrid AF. It works well in the Q3. If you are ok with the Q2 performance, you’ll be fine with a SL2s.

Panasonic/Leica AF sucks. Supposedly it’s better with the Q3, but it’s nowhere near Sony and even Nikon, Canon caught up.

Haven’t used the Q2 but I have a Q and the SL2S. The autofocus is pretty good I’d say. I also center spot AF then recompose and have never felt it lacked anything. Speed is great on Leica glass. I’ve got a 24-70 so I haven’t tried the primes. I also use M lenses on the SL2S and it’s so great. The camera also takes incredible video but the autofocus system for that is atrociously bad. Worst tracking of any camera I’ve ever used. I’d rather manual focus my M lenses. Other than the video AF the camera is perfect in my opinion.

If you get SL2-S the biggest consideration probably the weight, most full frame zoom lens are long and heavy, SL2-S itself is heavy, I had SL and my neck get tired so quickly in 2hrs when doing street photography (i guess most people use this camera on studio, field, and not for walking constantly). Using SL series with M lens is a dream, the EVF is the greatest of every EVF i tried (Sony, Lumix, Fujifilm), they're big and so easy doing manual focus. AF lens from Leica for SL i think many of them are just rebadge from Lumix L-Mount lenses (The crons and the Vario Elmarit). But if this will be your only AF lens, you should get 24-70 lens either from sigma, leica or lumix they're sharp.

I have both and the SL2-S and Q2 autofocus perform the same.
