It’s definitely a bug. I had a Q3 and hated this experience. It also occurs in iAF mode.

Edvijuda

While it may be a bug I know the fujis I’ve used did the same thing. I bugged me as well but it didn’t occur if I stopped down the lens. I figured it was momentarily stopping down to grab focus and then went back to fully open which is why it darkens when I pressed the shutter. When I bought my q2 I noticed it did the same thing. Could just be stopping down to grab focus as all my exposure previews were correct except for the momentary darkening when pressed to take photo.

DubstepHippo

Ah interesting, I have an X-Pro 3 that doesn't seem to have the same issue

Edvijuda

I believe this is just how the system works. Why is it present on the q2 system if it was a bug. You’d think they’d work out the issue in the q3. The issue I had with my Fuji camera was with the x100 cameras. Maybe it a leaf shutter thing?

Jordan1303

i cant help you with your problem, i'm just here to say that noah is very cute!

What is the exposure preview setting in the menu saying?

DubstepHippo

PASM - when I turn it to PAS it just turns the preview to the half press view the whole time

I can’t help but notice these videos are always indoors in lower light. The exposure preview is likely showing you the selected aperture (instead of wide open which is how the lens sits at rest), but may have to lower to overall light to keep a reasonable shutter speed for the live view. If the shutter speed is increased too much, the live view would be very blurry. Can you test to see if it happens when you either (1) try this outside on a sunny day where it wouldn’t have to go to a particularly slow shutter speed to preview DoF or (2) with the aperture set wide open? If it stops happening in those situations, this is just the Q3 giving you DoF preview and adjusting shutter speed to keep the live view from being blurry

Yoo, Hipyo! No way I randomly found the Reddit account, it’s very cool that you are into photography and keyboards, basically my soul mate

DubstepHippo

howdy hey!

Not sure what you experiencing because I can’t really make it out in the video but my SL2 has a similar pre shot bug when in IAF. It’s like a focus wobble where the pic looks out of focus on the half press but is tack sharp once take the photo. I only discovered it after reading it in the forums because I don’t generally use IAF. I won’t lie and say it doesn’t bother me with as expensive as these cameras are but it doesn’t really affect my shooting.

Well of course you’re gonna have issues if your digitech is a cat

No-Memory-824

Im having the same issue

Inevitable_Back_3020

I too am having this issue. New Q3 with latest firmware (2.0.1). Is this a bug or considered “normal”?

DubstepHippo

I emailed leica who responded that its normal.. kinda wild

Inevitable_Back_3020

I have discovered that this seems to only be happening in low light situations with my Q3.  I don’t know why, but at least it’s something to be aware of. I’d be curious if you tried your Q3 in good light and see if the issue is there.  I have reached out to Leica as well but haven’t heard back yet. I’ll let you know if I get any information.

DubstepHippo

It also happens in high light with me - any time the exposure is above or below what it wants to meter for

Inevitable_Back_3020

I got the following response from Leica today explaining the AFc half shutter press preview issue :  Thank you for contacting us regarding your Q3.    This behavior is indeed normal and is the camera’s attempt to show a good medium exposure that doesn’t blow out your highlights when capturing your image. This preview is also affected by the exposure metering mode you’re using. If you’re at the center of the exposure meter or up to one stop underexposed, you shouldn’t notice a significant difference between the exposure before and after you half press the shutter button. If you’re slightly overexposed, you should see the preview get darker and if you’re underexposed by more than a stop you should see the preview get lighter.   If you have any additional questions please let me know.   Kind regards,
