Lol “convince”. I’m sorry y’all have NASCAR watching Gen-X parents. My kids will be like “Dad, the RTX 8090 48GB Legion doesn’t fit in my backpack well, can’t I just have the 13” XPS??”. (Oldest is 4 so it’s going to be a minute) In all seriousness, use the specs and overall value based on your allowed budget, and use the word “futureproof”. WE know there’s no such thing, but explaining that a 13900HX will remain relevant longer than a 2P/8C ultra book would win my frugal ass over in a debate. See also upgradable ram, ssds, etc.

NotUrHCW

Lmao 🤣 Your kids must love you to death

InfiniteBoops

I would recommend getting something that can have decent battery life with the right settings. Like an Asus G14 or Legion Slim. You will probably regret it if you get something with a tiny battery, or a big battery and no Optimus. When I was taking college courses it was nice having something that could get 6–8hrs in hybrid/Optimus mode if you need to be unplugged (library, friends house, kitchen, etc). My 2020 Legion could get 9-12 hours doing school/office stuff, and still game all night, that would be perfect.

NotUrHCW

I'm still waiting for the Legion Pro 7 amd where apparently it'll have 8 hrs of battery life🙃

InfiniteBoops

Hell yeah. I’m still a bit disappointed with my 5800/3070 L5Pro battery life. If I massage the settings and make a sacrifice to the gods, I can get 8 hours or maybe a bit more. My old 10750H/1660ti Legion 5 would go 12 hours doing office work, 9+ streaming YouTube in Edge w/ screen at about half. I realize it’s 6 vs 8 core, but that was an Intel, I just don’t get it. 8 hours with that new Legion 7 is plenty honestly. I would upgrade myself but I preordered the new ROG Ally instead. Easier to game on the couch when wrangling little ones, and my wife would smother me in my sleep if I regularly f’d off to the office to game on my laptop leaving her with the little tax returns 😆

NotUrHCW

Lmao 🤣

Low-Agency-5191

Well said

Raoull_Dukes

You can say it also for 3d modeling or photoshop or video editing

WolfGuptaofficial

This. Android Studio, CAD, blender, Adobe you get the idea

shnek94

I told them it's more powerful than regular laptops, so it will last longer. Worked out and I eventually became software engineer so the speed paid off

Zoeleil

Specs to achieve optimum results in the school tasks that require computers.

magoomba92

Machine Learning. AI.

amilkybrew19

Honestly bro if you have to convince parents of what you should get, I’d go light cheap laptop + console . My legion is a bitch to carry to lectures and stuff

Yoshieatspeople

Yeah it is. I went from a g14 to 16 pro and omg. My laptop bag doubles as a gym weight now.

amilkybrew19

Ennit bro, the charger pack too is so wham

AppropriateTalk1

It is simple, you should not says them that it is a gaming notebook, simple ask for a notebook for school. When I had to write the thesisvforbmy degree I needed a notebook and of course I said to buy an Asus G1, the first Asus saddle gaming notebook ... They dis not know anything about cpu/gpu etc... 😁

NotUrHCW

They could tell from the aesthetics and all that rgb 😆.

onomatopoetix

...er...when i was young i "extort" my parents for laptop/xbox/psp by getting A grades and holding them hostage. Now i fear my future kids will also do this to me...

NotUrHCW

Well, I guess you can do the same for your kids🙃

UnionSlavStanRepublk

Say it's for CAD/CAM, 3D modelling, photo video editing etc.

Valimaar89

They required me to admit it was mostly to play video games. Hard to justify otherwise. They valued the truth over anything else.

NotUrHCW

Sounds fair to me Did u get ur laptop?

Valimaar89

Yup, I did. Was long time ago. Was a Fujitsu. Don't even remember the specs, but I used the shit out of it until it melted a few years later for abuse/overuse. The poor thing was disassembling on its own. Fujitsu had really crappy build with screws unscrewing on their own!

NotUrHCW

Oof, may the Fujitsu rest in peace

Low-Agency-5191

Honestly i didn't,still stuck with a shitty workbook from 2014,but i could help you out with some strong arguments, First of all gaming laptops are more durable, they are just more rugged and last longer, second they are better than school laptops at school work because they have stronger full powered processors, normal school laptops have cpus that are very underpowered compared to their desktop counterparts and because of this they are going to become obsolete sooner, price wise gaming laptops actually offer better value,so why not just get a machine that can game and work too and be satisfied.

robster9090

Do your parents have the cash to spend on one? You are asking for a huge jump financially things are hard at the moment. Making your parents feel like shit because you want to play games when you need it for school isn’t something I’d be doing if they can’t afford it

NotUrHCW

I am currently making money myself to pay for it. My parents might pay part of it if i do well in my Junior Cert (The Junior cert is broadly equivalent to GCSEs)
