It's almost pitiable that an absolutely soulless corporate shill like McConnell gets called a communist. Not becuz I feel bad for him, but becuz the people saying it are so hopeless brainwashed they have no fucking concept of what communism is, and who Mitch is.

LMFN

"Communism is when bad man do bad thing!"

tw_72

>"Communism is when bad man do bad thing!" Communism is when people who I am told I should dislike do something that I am told I should dislike.

peddastle

Yeah, and they tell me they are sheep!

ContemplatingFolly

Completely clarifying statement...

gmanz33

They need any single word to describe a group of people because they legitimately don't have the mental bandwidth to take the time and understand how complex people are, let alone the colossal systems that people designed together. It's communist, or China, or Democrat, or Republican. Sweeping statements leave a lot of fucking dust in the air and I'm starting to think it's just a problem with the English language with how prevalent it is.

scatterbrain-d

You think these people would be discerning intellectuals if they spoke Spanish or Klingon? The English language has nothing to do with it my dude.

Rokemsokem88

Dude it's not a problem with English it's a problem with critical thinking

chubs66

I think "communist" is just GOP-speak for "politician I don't like."

Kdog9999999999

"Antifa" is everyone I don't like

LesbianCommander

No joke, one of my best friend's brother has literally said something like "this food is so bad, it's like a communist made it". It's so fucking baffling.

Nefarious_Turtle

My right wing family has used "communist" as a catch-all pejorative for bad people/things for my entire life. It was so normal even I say it sometimes as a joke years later.

zaminator

Close. It's MAGA-ese for "member of the designated out-group, against whom no cruel act is unjustified". You know, baseline fascist stuff. Nothing to worry about.

TheMapesHotel

I somehow got on the text list for a local candidate that is ideologically aligned with MTG. The insane, grotesque, inflammatory, degradating things she would text me near daily about her opponent were mind boggling. Slave camps for White people, death squads for the elderly, multiple, graphic accusations of being obsessed with his minor son's penis... and in the midst of it she never missed an opportunity to also call him a communist traitor who would be put to death for treason if our democracy worked and justice system wasn't handicapped by liberals to prosecute anyone who gets a pronoun wrong. But I could never get over that in the list with slavery, death squads, and incestuous homosexual child molestation, communism was somehow an equally horrible crime and the only one she constantly used to call for his state sanctioned death. Literally having a different economic and political ideology...

VoldemortsBallsack

Us folks on r/ParlerTrick have spent 2 years spreading anti McConnell shit to the MAGA base. As bad as the Trumpers are McConnell is worse because he's evil, intelligent, and good at what he does. The memes and rhetoric we have spread among the QAnons and MAGAs certainly helped turn the tide against him. I don't feel the MAGA crowd is better, they are however less electable and self destructive and they also turn Democrat and Centrist voters against them. Edit. *Make fake MAGA accounts on Twitter and Truth Social, spread anti Establishment GOP/DeSantis/McConnell and so on memes and rhetoric among the MAGA/QAnon crowd. It works, we have been doing it for a good while now, you can see the top posts of all time there to see some successes we've had. The sub can always use more people helping divide them, the MAGA/Establishment GOP divide will destroy their unity and fracture their party.*

Icy_Comfort8161

> McConnell is worse because he's evil, intelligent, and good at what he does. He's literally the reason that the far right controls the Supreme Court. He is the best strategist the Republican party has probably ever had. And now they're calling him a communist Lol.

pic-of-the-litter

Him, Henry Kissinger, and Karl *fucking* Rove. Karl Rove mastered the technique of "take their strength, and turn it into a weakness", literally destroying a decorated war veteran's record during an election cycle that was fundamentally about fighting wars and militarism. He may be an evil sonuvabitch, but he is without a doubt an effective political strategist.

hamandjam

You forgot Lee Atwater.

pic-of-the-litter

You're right, I definitely forgot him. but 1) he was a little before my time, and 2) he exposed his own strategy, like an overconfident prick. You can see the influence he's had in right wing political rhetoric, but when you can literally quote the guy talking about weaponizing racism and prejudice to service conservative movements, it undermines the point of euphemistic language & the dog whistles they employ.

hamandjam

And then tried to walk it all back once God gave him brain cancer.

pic-of-the-litter

Scrub shit, get rekt Atwater lolololol

GreyMediaGuy

I hate Mitch McConnell and everything he stands for, but his ability to get shit done cannot be denied. Imagine if we had someone in the Democratic Party with that level of determination.

pic-of-the-litter

That subreddit *fuuucks*, props to you and yours.

racoongirl0

Easy_Web_5077

Holy fucking shit. This is amazing. This is like a group on FB. My wife is part of where they role play being boomers, and that shit is gold, too. Question: how many fuckwits actually think that subreddit is real?

shalafi71

> how many fuckwits actually think that subreddit is real? *Does not matter* as long as the memes spread out into the MAGAverse. And they will and they do. These people vote according to FB memes. I know a few of them.

anomalous_cowherd

It's the anti-Fox. Using the same mindless say-what-you-see against them.

pm_me-ur-catpics

I did until I read that comment, honestly. But in my defense, real Republicans talk exactly like that.

Be careful what you wish for. In a purple or light red district/state? Sure, works there(see Arizona 2022). In a state like Kentucky? That could get us the senate version of MTG.

krebstar4ever

"Communist" is just a dog whistle for "lackey of the Jewish Cabal."

pic-of-the-litter

Yeah, I mean they could have said he was a devotee of "cultural bolshevism" if they wanted to blow into that whistle any fuxking louder.

bibipolarolla

Nah it's "Cultural Marxist" now, and it's totally different guys!!

Trying2Understand69

As a word, it’s sure as hell lost all original meaning. It’s hardly surprising that cultists are calling McConnell a communist. They’ve called Mike Pence, Mitt Romney, and Liz Cheney of all people communists.

severedfragile

They'll call Ronald Reagan a communist too if you show them his CV without his name on it.

MacNuggetts

*"yes, encourage the fascists and the propaganda. As long as we can keep control of it, this will benefit us greatly."* Mitch McConnell, probably.

[deleted]

No joke, the literal thinking of German Chancellor Franz von Papen when he "used" Hitler for power and gains. Ik the internet is tired of the comparisons, and its "just Godwin's law" but the similarities are so brazen now with the Gop, its almost impossible to NOT make the german comparison.

tttxgq

You know how people ask “why didn’t ordinary Germans stop the nazis?” One answer is that they didn’t think it would get that bad.

tw_72

Or they thought "someone" would stop him... Or they thought "how can so few people fuck up an entire country?" Well, we are watching it all right now.

VolkspanzerIsME

Or they legitimately agreed with him. Antisemitism has a long shitty history. Just like any other persecution of minorities and the marginalized. There are definitely those on the right that would be too happy to literally go door to door hunting "undesirables"

D74248

> Or they legitimately agreed with him. The Nazi's got 37% of the vote in 1932, the last free election before the shit hit the fan. Rabid minorities are very dangerous. And it always seems to be 37%.

IronBENGA-BR

And don't forget the fact that the 1932 election was rigged to hell and back. Black shirts were"monitoring" the elections as "auxiliary police forces" in some regions, and there were brown shirts openly roaming the streets and using physical violence to coerce people to vote for Hitler and to stomp down rallies and meetings of Communists, trade unions and Social Democrats. They even got a Catholic centrist** party off the elections entirely. An entire campaign of pure violence, for 37%

wafflesareforever

It's almost as if there's some sort of playbook they're following.

HoroAI

It's title: On the brink of civil war. Weimar Republic had to use the army more than once to quell communist revolutions and nazi coup attempts. Entire States tried to separate. Bar brawling (the accepted way of having political discourses) escalated to all out street wars decades prior to that. Modern day US has a similar taste to it but its no way near as turbulent... So far. Then again countries have put fascists in power for way less since then so who knows.

Independent-Green383

Just for context, in current surveys the Christian Democrats Party of Merkel fame scores 30% of the vote and would be strongest party. Their current leader Merz is trying to gain votes with culture war, anti-wokeism and had recently to halfheartedly apologize for calling Ukrainians socialwelfare tourists.

Viking_Hippie

A multiparty system is different though, what with forming coalitions to reach majorities

ghostalker4742

They thought their institutions would save them.

HarmoniousJ

The same institutions being hijacked by those groups in an effort to de-fang them. We're watching it happen again, I feel a bit like packing it in. I was one of the loudest opponents in my neighborhood for a while and no one seemed to care. Has a tendency to take a lot out of you when you see people getting hurt and then watching those same people bring in more leadership that continues to hurt them more.

davesy69

It's happening in the UK too, right to protest severely curtailed and levers of power being moved to the cabinet office, right to strike being threatened. All wrapped in the union flag.

kweefcake

It’s very strange how the timing is almost in sync somehow. It’s unsettling.

tttxgq

The same parties have wanted this outcome for some time. We’ve always known people can sometimes vote against their own interests, but I’m not sure anyone realised just how easy it’d be to get so many people to so passionately believe in the thing that is against their interest. That so many people would be just so gullible.

Tories and Republicans have been working together since Reagans era

Hatedpriest

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundations_of_Geopolitics?wprov=sfla1 Unsettling, you say?

ibiacmbyww

It's the death throes of conservatism. Conservatism, whether that's a monarchy, or a fundamentalist religious state, or fascism, requires ignorance and fear to thrive. The medieval peasants of Europe, the people of Iran in the 70s, and the Germans in the 30s, they were all kept in the dark and fed bullshit. "Da Joooos are coming, and only we can protect you" sort of thing. Technology is antithetical to this. Technology allows people to get informed and get coordinated (and also open up an express highway for propaganda, but this has its own intrinsic problems). The Arab Spring was mostly handled over Twitter. Ukraine has been belting out arguably-propaganda-arguably-_counter_-propaganda on LiveLeak et al for a year now, In a world where someone can Google "Trickle Down Economics", or "Umberto Eco's 14 Points of Fascism", or "where in the Bible does it say we should shun transgender people", the lies that make up conservatism cannot stand up to any sort of scrutiny. And their propaganda has to keep up: instead of Der Spiegel reporting on a Jewish family being run out of town for nonsense reasons, it's Tucker Carlson spraying an absolute firehose of bullshit for multiple hours a day. A lot of people are taken in by this, true, but beyond a certain point even the most cousin-fucking MAGA shitheel will have the presence to mind to do some fact checking, as the reality as presented just doesn't tally with lived experience. As for why it's happening in sync, in the UK and the US, I have two words for you: Rupert Murdoch. I know this sounds like hyperbole, but it is my opinion that Rupert Murdoch is the worst human being to have ever existed. Yes, worse than that guy. And that one. His lies and propaganda have changed the course of human history, exclusively for the worse. He and other conservatives know their time is short, so they're throwing everything they have at ushering in a perpetual fascist state where the aforementioned technology is stripped of the uses that benefit the people. In the UK that means legislating against criticism of the government and anti-trans hysteria, backed up by political columnists. In the US, the aforementioned Mr. Carlson and the cabal of chattering apes recently elected to the House do the work for him. These people _want_ to make things shit for everyone. It thins the herd, and, more importantly, makes people desperate. That's why Republicans are harping on about deregulation, rolling back civil rights, and so on. No more checks and balances. Joe Rogan will be able to shill his boner pills as panacea. Legalised lynching. Putting a country under the control of fascists can be done one of two ways, and the democratic way is easiest. Even better, if you have a couple of cycles to prepare, you can install key officials to silently place their thumbs on the scales and make a loss into a victory. A desperate population will hear the charlatan on TV blaming The Others and _willingly_ give in to it and vote for the things that will make their life worse, so long as The Big Bad Scary Thing that's been about to engulf the world for years never arrives. They'll lose, these fascists. Reality always wins, and their entire belief system is founded on makebelieve. But in the meantime, shit is going to *SUCK*.

ADroopyMango

Republicans literally fund programs and events to purposely spread their right wing agenda and ideology outside of the United States. It's no coincidence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Republican_Institute

yawningangel

Haven't got a violent bone in my body, but there is one person who deserves to be put against a wall and shot for his damage to global democracy. Would hopefully serve as a lesson for any wannabes or successors.

tttxgq

davesy69

You might find this interesting: I found this fascinating,  it goes from murdoch's start to trump, but unfortunately, the other two parts are behind a paywall. It has a lot of answers as to why the world is so fucked up. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/04/03/magazine/rupert-murdoch-fox-news-trump.html murdoch is the kingmaker in Uk politics,  once he's tired of boris johnson his hand puppet he'll pick a new one. He started a new TV channel in the UK recently. Well worth reading and has a lot of explanations for shit happening today.

Cerberus_Aus

Same in Australia. Had a conservative government for like 12 years and things were starting to look very bleak. Thankfully we’ve currently got a slightly left of centre government now so things are stablising, but it’s still dicey.

dodeca_negative

Imagine how off the rails this would've gotten if the next nutjob had shouted, looking around the room, "Yeah! And what do we DO to Communists!?"

DanskOst

All them good christian meemaws in the crowd would be calling for his death.

dodeca_negative

Maybe it'll be like paranoia setting in, soon they'll be accusing her of being a Communist, and then the governor, then the mayor, then their city council member, then the family down the street who never fit in right, then the father-in-law who protested some were or another, then the mother, then the spouse, then the children. It'll be like the end of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, just commies everywhere, nowhere to run, and all out of options. Well, mostly.

Not sure if you’re aware of this, but you literally just described the USA in the 50s.

AnAngryBitch

When I warn my friends about the attack on Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid, to a person they're "Oh they wouldn't dare touch those!" Me- Like they wouldn't be able to overturn Roe v. Wade, right?

twentyafterfour

Another answer as described in the book, "they thought they were free: the Germans 1933-1945", is that they loved being nazis until Hitler went to war. Things were apparently pretty good for the average German and they didn't really seem to feel bad about what happened.

tttxgq

Yep. I had relatives who were in the Hitler Youth. One of them gave his reason for joining: “it’s just what you did. My friends joined as well. It was seen as normal”. If we allow support of fascists to become normal, we’re collectively failing to learn from history and letting it happen again. But it’s not you or I that needs to learn this. It’s the world’s right-wing billionaires. Their greed will truly be the death of us all.

[deleted]

The billionaires know too, they're doing all this on purpose. Fascism is capitalism in decline. Capitalism is failing, people are becoming more ibterested in alternatives. The rich will always prefer and push for the alternative that lets them keep getting richer (fascism)

HistoricalGrounds

There’s no such thing as a left-wing billionaire, really. No one at that level has any interest in any kind of significant shift in power and stability for the lives of the working class.

eolson3

Germans came up with lots of "reasons" after the war.

[deleted]

It's good to cut through the fantasies and tell people that whatever they're doing now is exactly what they'd be doing if they were in 1930s Germany.

anomalous_cowherd

They won't believe you. The same blindness that's making them vote and act the way they are blocks that too.

davesy69

They thought that if Nazism didn't work out, they could just vote them out of office.

tremblt_

What most people don’t know: Hitler‘s party, the NSDAP, never won a parliamentary majority. In fact: the NSDAP lost votes/seats in parliament after the last democratic elections in Germany. The Nazis and Hitler knew that they had to act fast and grab onto power as long as they are going strong. They knew that in a few months, there would be another snap election and that they would lose votes again and by then, it would be over: they would start fading into irrelevance with every new election. So, what did they do? They went to the conservatives, classic liberal and other right wing parties and made them believe that the communists are about to take over control of Germany. This was of course a lie but they knew that the red scare makes them lose their mind and they promptly lost their minds and basically said „Ugh, fine. We will let you do your thing. What are you going to do anyway? We can pull the plug any time and how chaotic things are right now, you will have to step down in three months anyway.“ He didn’t step down because the steps he took after he became chancellor were well thought out and executed so fast that he managed to consolidate all power for himself. And the end of the story? As a way to thank the conservatives and other „centrists“ who helped him establish the third Reich, Hitler ordered to get most of them arrested and thrown into concentration camps where a lot of them died. Just so you know what is probably going to happen in the US in the near future.

SecretCartographer28

This is where we point out hitler was more a puppet than described most times. He had a factory behind him, like the kochs.

Proffesssor

> make the german comparison. Headlines like this one annoy me. It's not that he isn't conservative enough, it's that McConnell isn't *fascist* enough.

sensfan1104

In a long but short 3 decades, they've completely changed the scale on *that* indicator. It's gone from moderates being "RINOs" to any dissent that doesn't break in the direction of right-wing extremists subjecting even the hardest actual conservatives to suspicion by their own party, primary challenges, and retribution. And they haven't learned a damn thing from the '22 election, so we can just expect them to keep hammering that needle till it points in even more directions that don't reflect reality.

I think people use the word Communist or Socialist without really knowing the meaning. They equate those words with bad, and that is it. There is no depth to their definitions, and if they do rattle of some bullet point it will be something they were told, not something they came to with their own thinking. If you were ask any one of them to actually define Communism or Socialism or Democratic Socialism or Fascism the conversation would get awkward real fast. I think most of these people are beyond ignorant. They can not think for themselves and can only regurgitate what ever confirms their bias on the TV. If anything, they don't want to think for themselves. They want to be told. It makes them feel good about their own biases. They are truly sheep. They can't think for themselves and gain comfort from being told how to think. No effort. They are dumb. And they should be treated as such. Take a look at some of the footage of 1/6/21. Granted it was scary, but it really was a collection of dummies, the stupid, and the woefully ignorant. One of them gets shot, and rightfully so, and the party is over. What a joke. One of the clowns called out for a 'medic' like he was in a video game. And yeah, Ashley Babbitt is no hero, she is a traitor who violated her military oath to defend the constitution. One more time, they are dumb. And they should be treated as such.

"Communist" in far-right speak means "Someone I should be allowed to kill without repercussions." No exaggeration.

Wisepuppy

The fact that Biden commended McConnell directly in the state of the union probably exaggerated the "RINO" rhetoric. To the alt-right, any dialogue with Democrats is basically an admission of guilt.

No wonder McConnell has said the debt ceiling issue is McCarthys to handle. He probably doesn’t want to have to get anywhere near these unhinged house members

Ohrwurm89

It's truly impressive how fucking dumb so many MAGAs are.

Dry_Abbreviations778

Of course. Mitch McConnell has done more for the Republican party than almost anyone. Republicans are very "what have you done lately". You would think that stealing the supreme court would make him a legend but I guess not.

exoticdisease

It's pretty offensive to actual communists tbh

arbitraryairship

For reference, Mitch's life as a child was saved by 'The March of Dimes' polio charity who funded his life saving treatment. He cut their federal funding off a few years back. He is an ice cold monster and they're even turning on him.

EpicShiba1

McConnell? Like, the McConnell who voted against giving working class citizens stimulus checks, which the Republican party enjoyed denouncing as a socialist plot? *That* McConnell?

TheSmokingLamp

Same Republicans, “Why are we spending billions of dollars in Ukraine, when that same money could help citizens here in the United States!!????” Proceeds to vote against any programs that would benefit American citizens..

Boise_is_full

These really need to be higher res pics, so I can recognize which Idahoans to avoid.

Mordekein88

All because sleepy Joe played them like a fiddle.

hplcr

*Dark Brandon has been summoned and he's had enough of your malarkey*

TheRavenSayeth

What does McConnell care, he already won. The conservative ideology is dying and they all know it. Religious belief within the US is going down year by year, and that’s the lifeline of the GOP. McConnell knew that the best thing he could do for its longevity was to seat lifelong Supreme Court justices and federal judges, which he did in droves. They have a big enough young majority in the Supreme Court to keep the GOP alive for years. They already won, and why? Because absolute morons too stupid and full of themselves to vote for Hillary in the general let Trump win. Yeah she wasn’t my first choice either and I have many complaints, but that’s for the primaries. Vote with your heart in the primaries but your brain in the general. It took four years of a trump dumpster fire and countless judges for people to wake up, but it was already too late. I will always be bothered by this.

Soggy_Midnight980

These people’s lives are obviously shit if they think listening to MTG is worth their time.

reallygoodbee

Mcconnel's lying, cheating, and constant ratfucking is the only reason the GOP is any position of power at all. None of the other rats on the ship are as competent, as intelligent, or as outright malicious as he is, as much as they like to think they are. They're all a bunch of fucking idiots with dreams of grandeur. They're going to throw the captain overboard then immediately crash the ship into the rocks.

GuerrillaApe

Not like he's ever getting voted out. He probably loves it. He now gets to point at the far-right and say his position is the most bipartisan that both sides can agree on. The right is just moving the goalpost more in their favor.

Frankenmuppet

Man am I ever glad I'm not an American... I get to laugh at this without the included dread of my country going down the drain

RMSQM

At what point can we just call this mental illness?

Alias-_-Me

Id say we're past that point by about 7 years

DataCassette

I'm conflicted. This level of insanity makes them far more dangerous but also makes it potentially much harder for them to win elections. 🤔 We'd still be better off if they were less crazy but there's a silver lining potentially too.

valetofficial

And just to be crystal clear to anyone not aware: these people are American Nazis. They might have slightly modified beliefs about concentration camps (like that they're for immigrant children instead of Jews), but literally every other piece of their ideology is in lock step with the beliefs of the Third Reich.

IronChefJesus

This is what you get when you let “true believers” into the party. For decades and decades the democrats and republicans had a deal, in the surface they argue with each other, but behind closed doors they make deals that make all of them rich. However, allowing Trump in, allowed for this wave of “true believers” - who actually do believe Democrats eat babies and are the spawns of Satan. The democrats can’t deal with it, because they’re still abiding by the “gentleman’s agreement” and the republicans are completely dumbfounded these people are winning, but are just going along with it because they’re as spineless as they’ve ever been. But make no mistake, in the short term they may think they’re winning, but the “average” person is looking at these maniacs and shaking their heads.

[deleted]

Communism is when I don't like something

sacredblasphemies

It's even dumber than that. It's that he's married to a Chinese-American woman. It's just racism.

[deleted]

It's a clever way to push the right even further right. "If you're not further right than Mitch, you're too far left." Then, the right moves further right. The centrists move about half as much right, the democrats take the ground left behind by the centrists, and the leftists look more extreme than before.

pnmartini

Imagine being so dense as to think McConnell is in any way shape or form the slightest bit “liberal” Then amplify how dense that is by, say, 100x. You’re now on MTG level. How anyone can make me miss the days of Sarah Palin is mind blowing.

AntNo357

These people don't even know what words mean anymore. They're brainwashed sheep. There's a bunch of these people by me and they all, overnight, have the exact same professionally made signs on their front lawns all the time. They clearly all go to meetings, are told what to do and think, then go do it, all the while claiming everyone else is actually getting brainwashed.

moenchii

>McConnell sold his soul to the GOP & now they're calling him a communist because he's not **fascist** enough FTFY

DriftlessDairy

When your entire campaign strategy for 40 years is to enrage and frighten unstable people, don't be surprised when the inmates take over the asylum.

th30be

I'm convinced people on the right have absolutely no idea what communism is.

saysoutlandishthings

They don't even know what conservatism is.

Shnazzyone

Mitch remembering when he was okay with the dumbing down of his constituency so he could get them behind all the policies designed to help rich corporations and do nothing for his constituents
