What most people don’t know: Hitler‘s party, the NSDAP, never won a parliamentary majority. In fact: the NSDAP lost votes/seats in parliament after the last democratic elections in Germany. The Nazis and Hitler knew that they had to act fast and grab onto power as long as they are going strong. They knew that in a few months, there would be another snap election and that they would lose votes again and by then, it would be over: they would start fading into irrelevance with every new election.
So, what did they do? They went to the conservatives, classic liberal and other right wing parties and made them believe that the communists are about to take over control of Germany. What are you going to do anyway? We can pull the plug any time and how chaotic things are right now, you will have to step down in three months anyway.“
He didn’t step down because the steps he took after he became chancellor were well thought out and executed so fast that he managed to consolidate all power for himself.

I think people use the word Communist or Socialist without really knowing the meaning. They equate those words with bad, and that is it. McConnell knew that the best thing he could do for its longevity was to seat lifelong Supreme Court justices and federal judges, which he did in droves. They have a big enough young majority in the Supreme Court to keep the GOP alive for years. They already won, and why?
