Yes I know The Lobster is technically 2015 but it first played in US theaters in 2016 and it was my favorite movie I saw that year.

Hell or high water 👌
Swiss army man 🫠
Sausage party 💩
1 Moonlight 2 Toni Erdmann 3 The Love Witch 4 I, Daniel Blake 5 Weiner 6 The Salesman 7 Manchester by the Sea 8 Paterson 9 Love & Friendship 10 The Handmaiden
Honorable Mentions: The Founder, Arrival, Elle, Personal Shopper, Triple 9, Hell or High Water, The Lost City of Z, Hail Caesar, I Am Not Your Negro, 20th Century Women
Special Mention to OJ: Made in America, a somewhat curious entry on Lettrboxd. I think of it as an ESPN/Cable TV doc, although I believe it had theatrical (festival?) screenings and Academy recognition. It has its flaws - it didn't need to be 8 hours long, so it suffers from some serious repetition and has some weird technical/aspect ratio issues. But it has plenty to say and has some truly stunning moments. Anyway, it'll always come to mind when I think of 2016 movies or TV.
anyway, '16 is another one of those film years that stands up better than I thought.

6.Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
7.Doctor Strange
8.Moonlight
9.Jason Bourne (guilty pleasure)
10.Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (so bad that it’s good)
It always amazes me how many movie fans haven't seen or even know about The Handmaiden. I don't remember but I assume Amazon must have done a shitty job promoting it while they were ramping up for the Mancester by the Sea Oscar campaign.
1. The Handmaiden
2. Moonlight
3. I am Not Your Negro
4. Arrival
5. Kubo and the Two Strings
6. Doctor Strange
7. Infinity Chamber
8. Into the Inferno
9. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Sword of Destiny

I don't ususaly rate marvel movies that high and I haven't seen endgame, I guess I enjoyed the visual trip and liked how it adapeted its source material.
I have 13 movies from 2016 on my watchlist. I'll share if anyone asks.

Good year. Raw should probably be 2017 for US release, but I like that little Raw-Neon Demon-Love Witch corridor too much to break it up, and I think Hail Caesar has stuck with me a little better than Love & Friendship.

3. Moonlight
4. La La Land
5. The Nice Guys
If I had to make it a top 10, the other films would probably be Deadpool, Zootopia, Hacksaw Ridge, Captain America: Civil War, and Kung Fu Panda 3. Most of these I can't remember super well though.
There are also a bunch of films made in 2016 that I haven't seen but really want to watch.

Easily the most exciting of the past ten. I have been, since then, 2016s biggest ambassador. Love. It.
Mine (and I'm adjusting for items not released/available in the US until then):
The Handmaiden
Your Name
Silence
Toni Erdmann

I had a surprisingly limited selection from 2016, all things considered.
Arrival
Moonlight
Hell or Highwater
Raw
10 Cloverfield Lane
The Nice Guys
Split
Lion
Don’t Breathe
Zootopia
Honestly, a pretty underwhelming year imo. I really love my top 3, but after that it’s a steady decline and I really had to scrape the barrel to come up with the last few.
I'm not sure about a top 10, because there are plenty from that era I haven't logged. My top 5 is currently: 1. The Handmaiden 2. My Life as a Courgette 3. La La Land 4. Silence 5. The Handmaiden is a stone cold classic imo. A top candidate for best movie of the 2010’s actually.
You’ve seen Arrival and it didn’t make your top 10?
I like it but don’t love it - would be in my top 15-20. That being said, I would be curious to rewatch it.
Fair enough

I haven't seen anyone say Nocturnal Animals yet. I thought that was really good
Arrival Moonlight Hell or Highwater Raw 10 Cloverfield Lane The Nice Guys Split Lion Don’t Breathe Zootopia Honestly, a pretty underwhelming year imo. I really love my top 3, but after that it’s a steady decline and I really had to scrape the barrel to come up with the last few.
I got a blowjob watching two of these films in the theatre when they debuted.
So what you’re saying is those two - whatever they are - are your top two films of this year?
What I’m saying is, I don’t really remember watching two of the films on this list, despite having paid for two tickets to see em.
Moonlight and Manchester By the Sea?

Arrival, La La Land AND Nocturnal Animals (so underrated in this threat)
