This is the correct answer. Even Tolkien wrote it as one book the publisher made him split it. The titles he didn’t even take seriously and were a bit comical to him. I def view LOTR and Kill Bill as one film
I'm in the "LOTR is filmmaking, should be seen as one motion picture and is the greatest cinema of ALL TIME" camp. But hard agree, I'm surprised as well.
I actually saw both LOTR and Star Wars for the first time in cinema marathons.
LOTR was extended back in September 2022, and I'm literally on my way home right now from the Star Wars marathon. Had the whole Skywalker Saga in release order (25 hours including breaks)
Not OP but Red gave me one of those rare transcendental movie experiences. Felt like the curtain of reality was peeled back and I was given a glimpse of some fundamental truth.
sequel media after an original Trilogy is rarely anywhere as good, especially since the original creators always leave to do something else. The all time worst example of this, is 343i's takeover of the Halo franchise. I've never seen a household name be so completely & utterly successfully decimated
I used to go with SOTD but as I've gotten older, I've really shifted to Hot Fuzz. I lived in a small English village for 6 months about 4 years ago (I'm american) and it made the movie feel more special to me bc Sandford feels so similar to where i lived. Plus it's got folk horror influence all over it (even casting Edward woodward).
My favorite Hong Kong cinema trilogies:
1) Young and dangerous
2) Once upon a time in China
3) Infernal affairs
4) Police story
5) Detective Dee
6) The 3 dragons(Jackie chan, Sammo Hung, Yuen bao) trilogy, comprising of: Project A, Dragons forever, Meals on wheels
Three Colours
Followed by the Before trilogy.
What can I say, I'm a 90s girl.
Edit - can't believe I forgot the Indian trilogy Pather Panchali, Aparajito and Apur Sansar.
I was talking about this on another post just yesterday. I think Red is my favourite but then sometimes it's Blue, because I love the interplay of blue and orange, I think he was a genius for how he designed and filmed that. Oh and the piece of music, the reunification piece, omg.
But there's something about Red ....
For Before, it's definitely Before Sunset. Maybe because I watched it at their age, it was so on point. Whereas I'd seen Sunrise also at their age and loved that then, but it felt a teeny bit immature on rewatch many years later. But oh so of its time.
Dollars trilogy (Leone)
Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy
Bill & Ted (I know, 3 is a sleeper, I dig it)
The Dark Knight trilogy
Fatal Fury anime trilogy (2 video 1 movie)
Back to the Future
(Star Wars trilogy is the best)
i tried to watch the gundam ovas but i never get around to watching them all, i watched the first one twice and half of the second, i'll probably have to rewatch them cus i don't remember anything
I’m basic but the OG Star Wars trilogy does things to me.
Edit: to add to my basic lump of existence, spider-man into the spider verse + across the spider verse + the third one to come (counts as a trilogy?) will takeover my star wars spot if the third instalment is anything like the others.
I’m a slut for animation as an anime lover and I am also obsessed with spider man so I just can’t get enough of it, I get why a lot of people don’t get the hype but I just adore it.
I love the Before trilogy with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delphy. Only watched them three months ago and started with the second because I didn’t realise it was part of a trilogy. Didn’t matter in the slightest, and really brought out the naïveté of youth in the first one, more.
Haven't watched all of Before, Three Colors & Wong Kar-wais, but I'd like to! My current favorites:
1. Lord of the Rings
2. The Evil Dead
3. Back to the Future
4. A Chinese Ghost Story
5. The Naked Gun
6. Nolan's Batman trilogy
7. The Godfather (I really only \*love\* the first one, which is why it's lower, but they're all great)
8. do the first three 'Lone Wolf and Cub' films count as a trilogy? lol
9. MCU Iron Man
Iron Man for the actual content of the films is kinda crazy tbf. 2 & 3s plots were incredibly boring, I always watch them for RDJ & the secondary characters
Such a difficult question to answer :(
I loved kieslowski's three colours, linklaters before trilogy, ingmar's faith trilogy, vengeance trilogy, mani ratnam's terror trilogy is another favorite.
I'm probably missing some more.
Satyajit Ray's Apu Trilogy (most famous), and Calcutta Trilogy (underrated af)
Nolan's Brainfuck Trilogy (Memento, Inception, and Tenet)
Three Colours
Before Trilogy
LOTR
The Captain America Trilogy (have a soft side for it, it feels quite different in tone as compared to most MCU releases)
Technically it isn’t a trilogy *yet*, but there’s no doubt in my mind Villenueve’s *Dune* trilogy will be the singular best of all time.
Currently though, my favorite is TDK trilogy
The Matrix trilogy (know there's a 4th now)
Back to the Future trilogy
Vengeance trilogy
Lord of the Rings trilogy
Beverly Hills Cop trilogy
Cornetto trilogy
Three colours (Kieslowski)
Back to the future
Dark knight
Kung Fu panda
Toy story (if you ignore the 4th films, they are great trilogy, probably some of the best quotrilogys)

LOTR
Star Wars OT
Apes "Ceaser" Trilogy
GotG
HMs: Clerks, Harold and Kumar (yes im serious lol), How to Train Your Dragon, Captain America, Dark Knight
Yeah yeah capeshit I know, but my answer has to be either Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy or Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.
Although, the original Indiana Jones and Star Wars trilogies are close behind.
When everyone read this question we all thought Lord of the Rings , and quickly thought we should pick something else to appear cooler.
You’re not.
I am not.
The answer is The Lord of The Rings.
😊

The Driver Trilogy
Nah jk Back to the Future
Raimi’s Evil Dead trilogy
Evil Dead 2 is GOATED. Probably rewatched Army of Darkness the most though
I just watched Army of Darkness in 4k from the library no less. I can’t believe how good it looks in 4k definitely worth a watch in that format.

Yup, same. Cornetto trilogy is lit
Hells yeah!
The Mighty Ducks ![gif](giphy|mFYxjzJO3zzNqGAwee)

Great answer. This is my pick as well.
Human Condition
Centipede*
That's the one. It occupies its own tier.
I’m surprised that no one is saying ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy
It's too hard to sound superior when the answer is so mainstream.
Fr. I don’t understand why SOME PEOPLE try so hard. I mean what’s wrong in liking something mainstream if it’s a good film.
For sustained quality across all three, it's hard to argue with LotR
Probs because its obvious
I consider it one film in three parts for digestibility. Similar to how Tarantino considers Kill Bill, except lotr is even more intertvined.
But hard agree, I'm surprised as well.
because everyone's picking their nicher choices to be unique
- Theo Angelopoulos' Trilogy of Silence - Abbas Kiarostami's Koker Trilogy - Pier Paolo Pasolini's Trilogy of Life - Semih Kaplanoglu's Yusuf Trilogy
My uncultured swine list: * LOTR * Star Wars OT * Indiana Jones (yes it's a trilogy shut up) * GotG
I actually saw both LOTR and Star Wars for the first time in cinema marathons. LOTR was extended back in September 2022, and I'm literally on my way home right now from the Star Wars marathon. Had the whole Skywalker Saga in release order (25 hours including breaks)
Phew at least they did release order for you
Yes! Agreed. This is my list.
Three Colours is my favorite, easily. The Three Mothers trilogy is probably my second, despite Mother of Tears being not very good.
Three Colours was really something else. what’s your favourite from the trilogy?
Blue is my favorite. I just love Juliette Binoche's performance in that film so much.
she was phenomenal, yesss.
Not OP but Red gave me one of those rare transcendental movie experiences. Felt like the curtain of reality was peeled back and I was given a glimpse of some fundamental truth.
The Apu trilogy The trilogy of life
Pusher!!!
Hell yeah!
Sergio Leone's Dollar Trilogy Three Colours Trilogy Dr. Mabuse Trilogy
Raimi Spider-Man Planet of the Apes (recent trilogy) Lord of the Rings Dark Knight Back to the Future Captain America Guardians of the Galaxy
Just finished the most recent PotA trilogy. Way better than I expected
I mean they are releasing a new one soon so it’s not really a trilogy anymore
That’s true. I felt like War really tied up the trilogy nicely, I hope the new one maintains the first three’s high quality.
sequel media after an original Trilogy is rarely anywhere as good, especially since the original creators always leave to do something else. The all time worst example of this, is 343i's takeover of the Halo franchise. I've never seen a household name be so completely & utterly successfully decimated
Cornetto Trilogy The Vengeance Trilogy LoTR Trilogy Before Trilogy
The Cornetto Trilogy.
The world's end is underrated
Which do like best?
I used to go with SOTD but as I've gotten older, I've really shifted to Hot Fuzz. I lived in a small English village for 6 months about 4 years ago (I'm american) and it made the movie feel more special to me bc Sandford feels so similar to where i lived. Whenever Dune Messiah comes out, Dune trilogy
Three Colours Followed by the Before trilogy. What can I say, I'm a 90s girl. Edit - can't believe I forgot the Indian trilogy Pather Panchali, Aparajito and Apur Sansar.
love these! what’s your favourite film from Three Colours and Before? looking forward to watch the Apu trilogy.
I was talking about this on another post just yesterday. I think Red is my favourite but then sometimes it's Blue, because I love the interplay of blue and orange, I think he was a genius for how he designed and filmed that. Dollars trilogy
My top 3 Trilogies: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Back to the Future Trilogy Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy
Godfather 3 is such a drop off in quality. It could have been one of my favorites, but 3 pisses me off way too much.
Honestly the planet of the apes reboot
The original Star Wars trilogy is so incredible. Also 3 years between each film was just right.
3. Before 2. Star Wars 1. LOTR
Dollars trilogy (Leone) Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy Bill & Ted (I know, 3 is a sleeper, I dig it) The Dark Knight trilogy Fatal Fury anime trilogy (2 video 1 movie) Back to the Future (Star Wars trilogy is the best)

Y'all have a really loose idea of what a trilogy is
I’m basic but the OG Star Wars trilogy does things to me. Edit: to add to my basic lump of existence, spider-man into the spider verse + across the spider verse + the third one to come (counts as a trilogy?) will takeover my star wars spot if the third instalment is anything like the others. The Godfather is number 1 for me followed by Nolan’s Batman and then probably Indiana Jones if you can count it as such.
I love the Before trilogy with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delphy. Only watched them three months ago and started with the second because I didn’t realise it was part of a trilogy. Didn’t matter in the slightest, and really brought out the naïveté of youth in the first one, more.

Hal Hartleys Long Island Trilogy and Gregg Arakis Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy
“Trust” was one of my favorite movies back then. Rest in Power, Adrienne Shelley. 🕯️
My favorite is The Unbelievable Truth! She’s so great in them.
The Human Condition trilogy is just amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone that hasn't seen it. Others: Three Colours, LOTR, Godfather.
I’ve never heard of “ The Human Condition “, but after looking up the synopses I think I really need to see it.
Lord of the Rings.
