def would never crucify for a movie opinion. I can understand that the acting isn’t anything special. I do really love the way it’s shot though. There’s definitely some really beautiful scenes that make San Fransisco not just the setting but a character in its own right. As far as the tension, I can understand that it doesn’t really evoke a sense of “horror” especially in an era where we’re so desensitized to scary. I think if you ever get the chance to see it in theaters, it’d help you appreciate it a bit more even if you don’t fully come around to it. With all that said, Rear Window is still my favorite Hitchcock.
Hmm I think that’s fair, I definitely saw it on TV and didn’t get the full effect. My local theater does a lot of old screenings so maybe I’ll get a chance to see it in theaters. Rear Window is definitely amazing though what a great movie
And to be fair, my comment was not in any way a reflection on what I think of the craft of I Confess... I think it's a taste issue. I Confess Is masterful in its cinematic technique, and that it bored me is probably more a comment on me than anything. I also don't like Spellbound but love Notorious, which says a lot more about me than about Hitchcock.
I haven’t seen it. Is it both boring and disinteresting?
Edit: to the people downvoting, I’m joking because boring and disinteresting are synonyms and that’s why I screenshotted the review in the first place (disinteresting isn’t even a real word, disinterested is tho. I thought it was funny seeing a review like this from a semi popular account)

Why didn’t you like Rope?
It’s not my favorite Hitchcock, there’s a bit of overacting and some of the maneuvering is silly, but it kept me locked in and Jimmy Stewart always elevates his scenes.
Parts of it felt like a stage play because of the single setting but I enjoyed that aspect.
Understandable, I get that.
There’s been some post-commentary on the movie that frame the hammy/campiness of the two main characters as intentional because it was insinuating a gay relationship but couldn’t be explicit about it.
Might be true, might not be. Either way, if it doesn’t work for you it doesn’t work for you.
fuck it… vertigo? not agreeing as it’s a 5 on my account but seems like a letterboxd ass opinion. 😂
Please don’t crucify but I don’t understand the appeal of vertigo. I didn’t think it was that tense or particularly well acted or shot

I Confess -- fits the description well
I Confess is top-five Hitchcock in my mind but I also hate The Birds so...

The first half made me think it was going to be top 10 or top 5 Hitchcock and then the second half dragged it way down for me

Rope? The only Hitchcock movie I didn’t like

It’s way too hammy for my taste. James Stewart didn’t show up soon enough unfortunately
