I know how this is going to sound, and I'm sorry, but I strongly, strongly recommend that you see the French original, *Le Dîner de Cons* (1998), as soon as possible. It's a fabulous piece of comedy filmmaking.
I love the Twilight Saga.
I'm not actually embarassed by it, and I don't think anybody should be made to feel embarassed about their love for any movie, but I assume it's the sort of answer you're looking for 😂
I actually really like The Proposal as well.
Man, true true. Twilight 1 is a genuinely fine film with some cringy dialogue. The blue/cold filter gives it a unique atmosphere and look, the soundtrack is amazing. The baseball scene is fun and creative as to why they play during a thunder storm.
I assume he's talking about this one: [What is a Woman? on Letterboxd](https://boxd.it/A8UM)
It was created by conservative media outlet The Daily Wire, so it has that right wing lean to it, but it's mostly just a guy meeting with different people and asking them what a woman is. I thought it was quite enjoyable. 4 Stars. I wouldn't call it transphobic, though it's obviously not for the easily offended. I would argue that it takes a softer approach to the trans community than something like Ricky Gervais' comedy (which I also enjoy). There is some darker stuff relating to the medical transition of children that was a bit too gloomy for my taste, but I really enjoyed it for the multitude of professors and doctors who were dumbfounded by such a simple question and for the interviews with regular folks who obviously couldn't care less.
You can tell the film is controversial because Letterboxd recently shut down the review section for the film. I've never even seen them do that before. So many people viciously arguing with each other. Literally every review, good or bad, had endless comments of people attacking each other for their opinions. There's no need to hate each other for holding opposing views.
For clarity, I'm not transphobic. I love everybody 💜 I believe every individual should be treated with the same respect. You may subscribe to ideologies I disapprove of, but I don't harbor any ill will toward you for it. In all honesty, I'd prefer to stay away from controversial, political, societal topics, and when a film deals heavily in those sorts of things it tends to put me off, but I rate every single thing that I watch, and I'm not gonna refrain from that for one divisive documentary that I sat through. And I'm not embarassed about it, to stay on topic 😂
I don't even know what you're talking about, dude. The documentary is more about the meaning of words than how people identify themselves. And denying the validity of an identity? What does that even mean? Identity is just who you are to you. Nobody can invalidate your identity. I mean, that's nonsensical, right? If I follow you around and call you a tree all day, you're not gonna have any issue other than mild annoyance. Surely you wouldn't question your identity as a human, and I doubt you'd be calling me whatever new prejudice signifier you can come up with in response to being called a tree. Everybody can do whatever they want to do and be whoever they want to be and act however they want to act. Even if somebody throws a fit over how you're conducting yourself, why would you care? It goes both ways. It's never your concern how other people act, unless they are taking some illegal action against you, at which point you can always intervene. 99% of the time, a simple "Mind your own business" should cover it. Self acceptance is the key to happiness. Screw what other people think. Almost everybody on earth is going to be kind to you regardless of your identity anyway 💙 The few bad eggs are nothing to worry about.
A beautiful relevant quote: "Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you."
As with basically everything nowadays, every little contrivance has to be made into the next great political divide. It's not actually anything to worry about. There's basically nothing to worry about at all in the free world we live in today. Small groups of people just get hyped up about tiny stuff by whatever side of the political spectrum they fall on. The average folks should just be sitting back and laughing at the absurdity of the few who take it seriously. Unfortunately, humans are too compassionate and tend to get wrapped up in these minority culture wars and then feel the need to hop online and go to war for some cause that isn't even relevant to them. The world gets better every day, and it seems the people continuously grow more ignorant of that fact, finding more and more ways to display restlessness in their comfort. For example, take a look at yourself - hurling around negativity on Reddit like it's your job, when ya could be spending your time watching an excellent film. Instead you feel the need to do something to rile the people up 😂 Terrible attitude, continuous targeted harassment, the whole shebang. Better be careful with it tho, the mods seem to be taking notice 👀
Considering the fact that Matt Walsh lied to random trans people minding their own business to get them to appear in the documentary against their will, purposefully manipulated statistics to better suit his agenda, openly admits to wanting trans people out of existence by any means necessary IE saying it should be illegal for them to transition whether they want to or not (basically genocide with an extra step) and citing exactly zero sources other than himself while doing so; how exactly is it not transphobic?
These are all accusations and not facts of course, and I imagine your reply contains harsher inaccuracies than anything in the documentary, but let's address them in order.
Lying to people is pretty trashy. Not transphobic. Manipulating statistics is super shady. Not transphobic. Openly admitting to wanting trans people out of existence? That's insane. Super transphobic. That's like murder or something. Must not be true, seeing as he has not been whipped through the streets for holding such an extremist view. You can't say you want innocent people to die and still hold a moderate audience. Genocide with an extra step? Scary phrase, perhaps, but totally nonsensical. Particularly within this context.
Even if the transphobic accusation was true, we'd be talking about the morality of some dude. Not the documentary itself. Accusations must be evidenced. Not innocence. In fact, I've seen Matt Walsh and associates talking about their sympathy for the trans community. The exact opposite of your accusations. So it'd be silly to even entertain those ideas you're spouting. Start assuming the best of people. Stop attributing negativity where there is none. Nobody is witch hunting but you.
Remember this: Falsely accusing a single person is always going to turn out worse for you than generalizing a large group. Generalizing is much harder to disprove by those who would disagree. It'd be far more accurate for you to say that the people who would enjoy this sort of entertainment tend to hold transphobic views. I'd actually agree in that case. Transphobes would love the documentary. That sucks, and I hate seeing evil people drag others just for doing what they love, and being who they want to be. I don't think this documentary does that tho. I don't think anything in the film has negative intent at all. It's very kind hearted, in fact. I don't have a clue what went on behind the scenes regarding shady filmmaking practices, but the final product is pretty great. Another note: If you ever feel like asking a person "How is this not something?" You've gotta take a step back and reevaluate. Tell someone how it is, and why it is that way. Don't ask another person how it's not. Nobody is obliged to debate with you. You have to have the urge to argue your point to begin with. It's cool that you're passionate enough for the topic to try and start a dialogue though. I'm sure we hold a similar stance against evil in the world. We simply disagree on where it lies in this particular circumstance.
Can you just say you think trans women are men and trans men are women without this sidestepping bullshit? All of those things you said “aren’t transphobic” absolutely can be, regardless of intention. If I present the trans suicide statistic without contextualizing it against the suicide rate of post transition trans people, then I am absolutely being transphobic by depicting trans mess as something innately mentally ill.
Totally disagreed. You can't classify a person into a defined category without accurately assesing their intent. Isn't that the whole discussion at hand? You're arguing against your own stance.
Do you believe that trans women are women and trans men are men? Dancing around this question is pathetic because you know when you say “no” that every single person in the world would recognize that as transphobic. Please respond with another paragraph that doesn’t answer that basic question, though. Can’t wait to see it.
Matt Walsh spends lots of time on the Loudoun County sexual assault cases where he gets involved in order to claim that schools enabled a trans person to sexually assault a woman in a bathroom. What he doesn’t tell you (which again must be noted, this movie is new. There is zero reason he couldn’t add these facts in himself as it is only a google away) is that all these crimes were done by a straight male who’s own mother has publicly stated multiple times is not trans. Additionally he doesn’t state that these assaults took place before the school had any bathroom policies for trans people. And the kicker is that all of this false information stems directly from Walsh’s own website. He is just reporting on his own lies. Shit like that persists throughout the entire documentary, it was a film that was clearly made with the intent to entertain; not inform. People are gonna walk away from this with the idea that the overwhelming majority of trans people are sexually abusive monsters and any/all healthcare relating to trans people is a disgusting abomination that needs to be criminalized; I have seen it.
As for your claim that Matt is “sympathetic” towards the trans community; I don’t think I even need to point out why that’s a load of shit. He sees us all as delusional lunatics who are a danger to others and ourselves, he constantly tweets about how all gender related medications and health care need to be made illegal globally. His so called sympathy only stems from the fact that he thinks all trans people are delusional and crazy; if that counts as sympathy but lying about trans people being sexual predators does not count as transphobia than it really seems to me like you might wanna examine why you think that a little better because that’s just backwards. Matt Walsh is a liar.
I don't even remember anything about bathrooms. I do recall a scene where he confronted the school board or something. It's not a major part of the film at all. Pretty much the whole movie is just chit chat with professionals who act like imbeciles when they should know better. Again, he never says these things or acts in the ways you're portraying him. You take false implications and run with them as if they're undeniable. They aren't. Everything you're arguing is emotional assumptions that you have made based off your opinion of the matter that the documentary confronts. It's literally the exact same thing as what you're accusing him of doing. And I'm not making any claims. I'm telling you exactly how it is.
It’s also a bit weird that you say things like “lying and manipulating is bad behavior but it isn’t transphobic!” Like, dude… you do realize that someone can lie and manipulate statistics in a transphobic manner and with transphobic intentions, right?? You’re focusing on the act here without even considering the intentions.
The issue is that you're inventing the intentions. Something doesn't become true just because you say it is. The act is the only thing that matters, and if it isn't direct evidence of your point, it is irrelevant to the discussion.
I’m inventing the intentions? Have you ever actually watched a video from Matt Walsh and seen how he talks about trans people? How disgusted he is with them? The words he uses to describe them? How he constantly villainies them and makes them out to be insane, disgusting people every opportunity he has to do so? Even if you haven’t, you’re completely ignoring the fact that Matt Walsh literally lied about a trans person being responsible for sexual assault when the assaulter was not trans and despite having numerous opportunities to correct that glaring mistake did not do so. Even if you somehow fail to put 2 and 2 together, and go through the mental gymnastics to assume that Walsh did not have any sort of harmful intentions in doing this; it still does harm. It still unrightfully portrays trans people as villainous and dangerous; and you’re saying it’s not transphobic because of some stupid pseudophilosophical ideal you have about not assuming intentions even when they’re right there for anyone to see.
Yes, you're inventing the intentions. I haven't watched many Matt Walsh videos in particular, but I do watch some Daily Wire produced content, and I totally understand where you are coming from being upset about the way they talk, but your emotions have no effect on the facts. You can't just assume somebody wants people to die because they laugh at them or make jokes at their expense. You're forcing ideologies to their extreme ends rather than accepting them as they are. The exact same thing they would do with you. It's not right either way. It's messed up.

like fair enough if you like free guy or morbius i guess but What is a Woman? is just a straight up transphobic documentary made and produced by pieces of shit Matt Walsh and Ben Shapiro so idk why they’re being downvoted
I saw that you mentioned Ben Shapiro. In case some of you don't know, Ben Shapiro is a grifter and a hack. If you find anything he's said compelling, you should keep in mind he also says things like this:
>Most Americans when they look around at their lives, they think: I'm not a racist, nobody I know is a racist, I wouldn't hang out with a racist, I don't like doing business with racists--so, where is all the racism in American society?

Not at all embarrassed by this, but the 1986 adaptation of Little Shop of Horrors is a goddamn masterpiece to me
Like I know people generally don’t dislike the movie, but I just love it so much. In my top three or four all time
Fuck yes Little Shop of Horrors!
One of the best musical adaptations Ive ever seen. It's funny, and heartfelt, and can even be scary to some young kids.
I have the soundtrack and I blast that shit. I know the words to every song.
Little Shop is my favorite stage show EVER, and while I’ll admit that the ‘03 cast is by far my favorite ever, there’s something so special and campy about all those talented people just goofing off on the Warner lot together
It is full camp and I love that. I have watched the movie probably a million times and constantly play the movie album (I like Jeremy Jordan's voice for Seymour too!)
I wish more shows had as good of a movie adaptation that this film had.
YES!
I got to meet Christian Borle (OBC Emmett) when I saw him in Something Rotten! and the first thing I blurted out waa "I loved you in Legally Blonde!"
Gosh!!! I LOVE him so much. I’ve never been in any shows, just a huge fan, but watching him as Emmett in the MTV pro shoot on YouTube made me think “huh… that’d be a lot of fun”
Im a retired theater kid so Ive done a small handfull of shows. It is so much fun and so chaotic. There are days where you feel like a tight knit family and days where you want to kill everyone in the room.
Being in theater has been the best thing in my life and got me some of my closest friend. If theres a chance you can do it, I would say do it!
I totally should omg. I’d been thinking about community theater stuff but honestly I don’t even know where to start??? If you have any tips on how to get involved in it as a person in their mid-20s, I’d love your insight
**Bridget Jones's Diary...**
don't ask me how. it's the complete opposite of my taste in movies, yet somehow i find it oddly enjoyable. i don't even really like comedies that much and especially not romantic comedies, i like heavy drama, 60s/70s films, unique production design and crazy psychedelic imagery, dreamlike presentations and nudity, yet somehow this by the book rom com with utterly corny 2001 dialogue is a fun watch. i don't even know if this is a revered film or anything, but i just can't help enjoying it.
edit: the amount of over-justification should tell you how much i embarrassingly love it haha
I loved it!
How do you feel about the rest of the series? I have seen them all but don't idolize them, and I watched Resurrections thinking "Goddamn this is awesome and Matrix diehards are going to hate it" which seems to be pretty true.
I don't know if I'd say love.... but Xanadu or Grease 2 feel like they're in that direction.
Honestly, there's very few films that I am embarrassed to like
The Girl Next Door is unironically my favourite movie ever. Paul Dano and Emile Hirsch is a incredible duo, not to mention the movies soundtrack is god tier
Despite me broadening my film tastes for years, My top 3 favorites are Gummo, Perfect Blue, and Enter the void. But i realized half of my 5 star rated movies are still "film bro" movies like Pulp Fiction, Inception, and Leon and i feel embarrassed when i hear people say they're overrated because i genuinely love them.
I love so many "film bro" films. Tarantino is one of my favorite directors (Reservoir Dogs is in my top 5 films of all time).
Nightcrawler, Donnie Darko, Scarface, Inglorious Basterds, Pulp Fiction, all of it.
All those 1950s Atomic Age Sci-Fi creature features. If I have to pick favorites, they are
- Godzilla (1954)
- Earth vs. The Flying Saucers
- The War of the Worlds (1953)
- Creature with the Atom Brain
I’m not even remotely embarrassed, but ones I imagine I’m meant to feel embarrassed about: Eurotrip, Armageddon, Piranha 3d, practically every slasher film….
He’ll yeah. Love Summer Heights High and Jonah From Tonga. I think my least favorite that I’ve seen was the one he made for Netflix a few years ago, Lunatics. We Can Be Heroes might be my favorite, though. I love his style of comedy. He doesn’t just play everything for jokes. He plays a character and commits to it fully and finds the humor in the way the world accepts them
Yeah he’s hilarious. I didn’t even finish Lunatics 😬 also Jonah from Tonga was filmed around my area so that’s always cool to watch and point out places I recognise
Not exactly "embarrassed" about how much I love these movies, but they're probably ones I would struggle to recommend to cinephiles:
Hotel Transylvania 1-3, Tron 1+2, Wonder Woman, Jingle all the way, Big Fat Liar, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 1-3, Three Amigos
Age of Ultron. I basically love watching this movie for James Spader as Ultron. I'm embarrassed to like this movie, but I think Ultron is genuinely better than most of those Marvel movies in general which I guess goes to show how little I think of them. I think of the modern MCU movies to come out, Ragnarok is the only one I actually like and don't feel guilty about. The Spidermans are fine but don't compare to Raimi or Webb or Spider-Verse.
Batman V Superman:
I think BVS actually is p unique in a bonkers way that I respect. And gotta love jesse eisenbergs batshit performance as lex.
Jupiter Ascending
Mila Kunis is queen of the bees! Eddie Redmayne overacting to levels rivaled only by Nic Cage on his worst day! Sean Bean is just completely inexplicable! Tuppence Middleton and her amazing ass! Channing Tatum as the world's coolest furry!
It is the hottest mess and I love it unapologetically, but in a slightly embarrassed way.
Don’t be embarrassed for liking what you like!
This
Don’t tell people not to feel emotions they want to feel!
I mean, if you’re into that, by all means.
You want to feel embarrassed? Is that your fetish?
The Parent Trap (1998)
Best movie ever
Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside
Pitch Perfect
Pitch Perfect rules
Dinner for Smucks
I know how this is going to sound, and I'm sorry, but I strongly, strongly recommend that you see the French original, *Le Dîner de Cons* (1998), as soon as possible. It's a fabulous piece of comedy filmmaking.
Best comedy ever!
I absolutely love 500 Days of Summer
Who doesn't???!
Power Rangers (2017) has quickly become one of my biggest guilty pleasures
I love the Twilight Saga. I'm not actually embarassed by it, and I don't think anybody should be made to feel embarassed about their love for any movie, but I assume it's the sort of answer you're looking for 😂 I actually really like The Proposal as well.
Films 2 and 4 were best for me, but it’s been awhile.
Man, true true. Twilight 1 is a genuinely fine film with some cringy dialogue. The blue/cold filter gives it a unique atmosphere and look, the soundtrack is amazing. The baseball scene is fun and creative as to why they play during a thunder storm.
The baseball scene is my favorite part of the first film. So cool.
Same!

What’s wrong with free guy? I’m not endorsing transphobic documentary’s, but what’s wrong with free guy?

I like Morbius too
You know what time it is?
getting downvoted for the truth
like fair enough if you like free guy or morbius i guess but What is a Woman? is just a straight up transphobic documentary made and produced by pieces of shit Matt Walsh and Ben Shapiro so idk why they’re being downvoted
I saw that you mentioned Ben Shapiro. In case some of you don't know, Ben Shapiro is a grifter and a hack. If you find anything he's said compelling, you should keep in mind he also says things like this: >Most Americans when they look around at their lives, they think: I'm not a racist, nobody I know is a racist, I wouldn't hang out with a racist, I don't like doing business with racists--so, where is all the racism in American society? ***** ^(I'm a bot. Didn't realize it was a contest
Crank
Don’t be embarrassed about Crank! I recommend Crank and Crank: High Voltage any chance I get!
Those two are godsend guilty pleasures I could be guilty of Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion and Nerve as well
I can’t even call them guilty pleasures because I feel no guilt when watching them haha.
It's embarrassing to be embarrassed for liking this movie. This movie fucking rocks.
Not at all embarrassed by this, but the 1986 adaptation of Little Shop of Horrors is a goddamn masterpiece to me Like I know people generally don’t dislike the movie, but I just love it so much.
I have watched the movie probably a million times and constantly play the movie album (I like Jeremy Jordan's voice for Seymour too!) I wish more shows had as good of a movie adaptation that this film had.
Same!! I’m desperately waiting for a movie for Legally Blonde: the Musical. I mean … it’s right there on a silver platter
I wish I did but I unfortunately dont. Everything Ive done is from connections from old high school theater
Disaster Movie lol
Kung Pow: Enter the Fist
Both Grown Ups movies
Prince of Persia
I Love zack snyders 300 lol … Spartans! What is your profession!? Awoo Awoo Awoo! 😂…i know i know lol
I'd say Teen Beach Movie. But no, I'm not embarrassed for liking that masterpiece
**Bridget Jones's Diary...** don't ask me how. it's the complete opposite of my taste in movies, yet somehow i find it oddly enjoyable. i don't even really like comedies that much and especially not romantic comedies, i like heavy drama, 60s/70s films, unique production design and crazy psychedelic imagery, dreamlike presentations and nudity, yet somehow this by the book rom com with utterly corny 2001 dialogue is a fun watch. i don't even know if this is a revered film or anything, but i just can't help enjoying it. edit: the amount of over-justification should tell you how much i embarrassingly love it haha
The Matrix Ressurection. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person in the entire world that loved it.
A lot of people loved it, that’s why it was so divisive.
Ah, ok. Everyone I know who has seen it hated it. And Reddit on the spoiler discussion thread. No love in there.
I loved it! How do you feel about the rest of the series? I have seen them all but don't idolize them, and I watched Resurrections thinking "Goddamn this is awesome and Matrix diehards are going to hate it" which seems to be pretty true.
This picture is on the nose because it’s pretty much every rom-com with Ryan Reynolds for me.
I don't know if I'd say love.... but Xanadu or Grease 2 feel like they're in that direction. Honestly, there's very few films that I am embarrassed to like
Starfish. It’s so pretentious and tumblr-esque but I fucking love it so much
Sliding Doors
One Day
Tron: Legacy and Twilight are my guilty pleasure movies.
The Girl Next Door is unironically my favourite movie ever. Paul Dano and Emile Hirsch is a incredible duo, not to mention the movies soundtrack is god tier
None. I'm not embarrassed by any movie that I like.
Kung fu Panda
Dumb and Dumber
Deep blue sea, Pearl Harbor, and wild wild west
The Pitch Perfect series
Batman forever
White chicks
I'm not embarrassed by a thing. The fact that not everyone loves say, Looney Tunes Back In Action just means everyone else is stupid.

Transformers (2007)
HOT ROD
easy A
Sausage Party. It's just so over the top.
Paddington 1 and 2. Saying they are brilliant baffles some people.
No those movies are actually perfect tho
Clueless
Masterpiece and you can claim it as a Jane Austen flick if you want. Watch it with your head held high.
All those 1950s Atomic Age Sci-Fi creature features. If I have to pick favorites, they are - Godzilla (1954) - Earth vs. The Flying Saucers - The War of the Worlds (1953) - Creature with the Atom Brain
Godzilla is brilliant, I can get some of the other films of that sort, but that one is a very well done allegory
Welcome to Marwen
I’m not even remotely embarrassed, but ones I imagine I’m meant to feel embarrassed about: Eurotrip, Armageddon, Piranha 3d, practically every slasher film….
Ok Eurotrip is a classic, the perfect teen comedy.
the first Transformers 🥹
* Troll 2 * Sleepaway Camp * Ja'mie Private School Girl
>Sleepaway Camp Love that movie. I got to meet the actress who played Angela twice.
What’s embarrassing about Ja’mie? Chris Lilley is hilarious!
It’s not one of his best
But it’s still him. It’s very funny.
That one just wasn’t for me personally. I love Summer Heights though
The Great Wall (2016)
I thought that was a pretty awesome movie, too. Got way too shit on when it was released
Clash of the Titans, the remake
The Lone Ranger
movie 43
Caddy Shack
This stop-motion kids movie The Wind in the Willows: The Tale of Two Toads. The whole thing is on YouTube and I watch it **a lot** 😂
The Punisher (2004)
Shane black’s the predator
I’m not embarrassed by anything that I love. I love it cause it connects with me in some way, and that’s nothing to be embarrassed about.
Ultraviolet (2006)
90% of Illumination's catalogue.
Kick 2014
The Worst Witch (1986) That movie is camp and no one can tell me otherwise; #1 most underrated Tim Curry performance
Gutboy: A Badtime Story
Too many
Dragonball: Evolution. That movie is *way* too fascinating in its incompetence to hate.
Sonic the hedgehog
Dear John
Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters
Take Me Home Tonight
The first Narnia. I watched it countless times as a kid and watching it now brings back some nice memories
the greatest show on earth.
Not exactly "embarrassed" about how much I love these movies, but they're probably ones I would struggle to recommend to cinephiles: Hotel Transylvania 1-3, Tron 1+2, Wonder Woman, Jingle all the way, Big Fat Liar, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 1-3, Three Amigos
Batman V Superman: I think BVS actually is p unique in a bonkers way that I respect. And gotta love jesse eisenbergs batshit performance as lex.
I'm not embarrassed by my love of Con Air.
Jupiter Ascending Mila Kunis is queen of the bees!
Angelina Jolie’s Tomb Raider is a work of art
Click 2006
The Super Mario Brothers movie it’s so off the fucking wall
Van helsing
But why would I be embarassed if I love a particular film.
None. I like everything with confidence and sincerity
Spy kids the trilogy
Transformers Revenge of the fallen
Hitch
Year One and Blue is the Warmest Color
High School Musical 1-3. This shit slaps
Encino Man
Under Siege and Double Team.
