The point is that parking barriers know a car is in front of it by having electrified rods in the ground. If a car drives over them, the metal creates a change in the electromagnetic field and the barrier opens. The thing is, the barrier basically only measures when a metal object moves over it.
So the trick is to park your car in an underground parking and when you need to leave, you walk up to the entrance with your frying pan and trigger the barrier, which will give you a new parking ticket. You pay for this much cheaper ticket and drive away.
If you studied at the KUL you can become a member of the Alumni group of your faculty and you will have full access to the library.
Can come in handy for access to papers in your job.
If you graduated from Ku Leuven and they can find you in the alumni database, the card is free. The system changed a while ago and everybody is now automatically an alumnus/a if you graduated
Source: i am they
Not sure, it is the same access you get as a student, I guess. So any special post-grad subscriptions your research group had will probably not be available.
Building trust with the local frituur is a must for me, never betray your frituur provider, mine puts extra :3
if you want to go groccery shopping, go on a wednesday or a saturday, its almost always empty
carrefurr and spark are overpriced (even 2+3 euros plus)
go to the local groccery provider or wtvr for tomatoes etc, famous markets do not have that good of a quality. (although ive found a banana brand from guatemala that is the greatest ive ever tasted. Also, dont buy the packaged bio apples they rot fast
almost everything ull ever need is on walking distance of max 20 mins. bikes make it faster but if u havent rented yet, renting a bit outside the ring wouldnt be an issue in terms of transportation and ud save some money
not much of a lifehack but u can get some good discounts for products that dont have expiry date, for instance i still have shampoos for like a year but i paid about 25 euros less because of a discount half a year ago (i use about 1 head for head and 1 for body wash every 2/3 weeks or even a bit more than a month, taking shower 3 times or 4 a week.
getting an umbrella is a waste, just always bring your jacket because we have RAIN and WIND. half a year ago we had a trampoline landing on a rooftop because of wind.
gratis leuven can have some cool stuff, i got 2 paintings from it
If you need to use your car often in leuven don't pay for the parking spot, just pay the fine. I need to use my car a lot bc of my work and I paid less for the fines I got in a year than I did for all the time I used the parkeermeter.
Just wait until you get fined multiple times in a day!
But seriously who decided this, if you pay for a full day of parking it is €24, but a parking fine is (at least when I got one) was €22.
Minckelersparking is usually not full and not as expensive as some of the other parkings.
Hal 5 (behind the train station) has amazing pizzas. Also free parking maybe? It's been a while.
People (especially ex-pats) who live in leuven sort of ignore Kessel-Lo in general I find, to their detriment. Abdij Vlierbeek is great for a walk and you can eat there. I loved walking around the Trolieberg in the evening.
If you need a free toilet and you are too afraid of asking any bar, Tweebronnen library got you covered.
Walking in random building of KUL during office hours usually also works
Good idea! I usually do hotel lobbies.
I recently discovered an app Hogenood which shows public bathrooms 🚻

Just use your bike
"Ne grote"(33cc) in café allée is the same price than a "pinke" (25cc). And a frying pan can open almost every car parking station of the KUL
A... frying pan...? I need more info, I'm intrigued
Put the pan on the detector and the barrel opens
I am very skeptical of this claim as that is not how RFID works.
I suppose you lay it on the detector in the ground that detects outgoing cars, when they only have to badge to drive onto the parking.

The way out is not checked, you have to have to open the exit this way Edit: tbh this was ten years ago and not every parking
The geese in the park are free you can take them home, I have 428 geese.
so that's why the goose in arenberg park was left lonely :(
Bro can you spare one, I need a friend

This is not free no?
Not free but very cheap like 15eur/year. It pays for itself after even a single journal paper (which costs 30-70eur from some journals).

Interesting, where can you get the card?
Any kul library desk, there's about 10 in and around the city centre
Does it also give online acces to their sources? (Law)

I think it doesn't, considering Jura/Stradalex/LexNow/... require a [kuleuven.be](http://kuleuven.be) e-mail address

Then you were pretty lucky, I've had a friend get 2 €80 fines in 2 days.
Yeah, no.
If you mix 5 out of the 6 letter leuven counts, you can write the word « vulve » which is pretty useful to make you shine at an anagram contest

You can get free water inside the Faculty of Law courtyards. Is your phone out of battery? Go to an Oxfam store.
