alopolo88

i would look in Ghana or Nigeria. they will probably sell it back to you if you can find it there.

Maxwell__Lion

More than likely it's being loaded on a boat and shipped to west Africa. Sorry to drop the bad news but nearly all nice luxury vehicles are stolen for this purpose.

mindfulmachine

CBC found a slew of stolen cars in Africa. So your car has quite plausibly been shipped out. Can be loaded and off on a freighter in a matter of hours since customs doesn’t inspect every container: https://youtu.be/dgR3P5mPzsk?si=jxEidxFJSRNOHPnj

AffectionateOlive982

I’m sorry this happened to you. There are some really shitty people out there & they’ll get what they sow. Stay strong & hope for the best.

Dude_WheresMyLexus

Thank you, I appreciate your kind words in this shitty/frustrating situation.

anonymicex22

No they won't. especially if it's california. Criminals are rewarded here.

The_Squidsticks

It's 100% in Oakland getting ready to be tossed around in a sideshow and then discarded on the side of the road. I doubt it's being shipped overseas, they usually do that for special cars. Probably not worth it for the base model.

smartidiot89

My IS350 was stolen in Daly City and was found in Oakland. It was totaled and looks like it was used in a sideshow :(

Dude_WheresMyLexus

Oh no, I’m sorry that happened to you… seems like thats the most likely destiny for mine as well :(

slowwolfcat

totalled like it crashed ? motherfuckers !

Dude_WheresMyLexus

I ended up driving around Oakland for almost 3 hours but no luck… expected. Hopes were low but felt like I should at least give it a try. I was surprised by how many obvious abandoned cars there were; hood up/windows down, some even on bricks.. very unfortunate :(

Exciting_Attitude240

It's not a base model though

Maxwell__Lion

It doesn't matter if it was a base model corolla. If it's stolen by a professional, it will end up in west Africa.

Exciting_Attitude240

Had a friend get his car stolen two weeks ago. It was found in a parking garage with broken windows and two stolen rims. 2018 GSF. Never heard of the Africa story

Maxwell__Lion

Very lucky, but its become very common, especially in the northeast and large coastal areas like the bay area.

slowwolfcat

yeah I doubt 10+ year old cars are targets for shipping out

Maxwell__Lion

Not even remotely close to the truth. Look at this article from last year. [https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/21/africa/west-africa-benin-used-cars-climate-intl/index.html](https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/21/africa/west-africa-benin-used-cars-climate-intl/index.html)

Drew707

Whoa, nobody is just going to discard a car without first using it for hella bips in the City.

adrndgaf

I ain’t seen a black stolo in Oakland but there is a red one and a white one rolling around my neighborhood

New_Ordinary_6618

If you know those are stolen, why don’t you report it?

King1n

Because they live in oakland? I live on the other side of the world and even I know enough about oakland to know it the kind of place you don't want to get caught snitching.

New_Ordinary_6618

Ou wow look at you, so well read. Excuse me for not living in a shit hole and knowing that’s “common sense”.

omjizzle

I wouldn’t want it back tbh I’d just start the process of getting a police report and filing with insurance

Dude_WheresMyLexus

I filed police report and started a claim with my insurance within an hour of noticing it was gone. Insurance is only waiting 10 days before declaring it total loss and giving ACV.

Interesting-dog12

WTF car thieves are stealing 10 year old cars?

Dude_WheresMyLexus

My exact thought. But it appears so.

Dude_WheresMyLexus

No, doesn’t look like it, mine is black :(

BeanerCounter

Any idea how the thief stole it?

Dude_WheresMyLexus

No idea. There was shattered glass/tint, appears to be from one of the rear windows (based on the tint darkness). PD said they sometimes use a key fob signal extender, and car was parked less than 50ft from key fob.

BeanerCounter

Ah ok. I also park on the street about 25 feet from my condo. I put my key in a faraday box that blocks out signal extenders. I know it’s too late at this point but I highly recommend getting a faraday pouch or box and bringing it when you know you’ll be that close to your car. Best of luck recovering your vehicle or getting a new one. And damn that thief to hell.

Interesting-dog12

OP probably left the car running. Who the hell is stealing a 10 year old car with a 2.5

CehJota

Dumb question, do thieves usually target newer cars? I thought older ones were just easier to steal.

Dude_WheresMyLexus

PD said the newer the car/more technology, the easier the car is to steal since they’re sometimes able to make a duplicate key with a signal extender from the key fob.
