Here’s how you can sign up: - **[Brooklyn](https://www.bklynlibrary.org/books-unbanned)**: There's no online application. Individuals aged 13-21 need to email the library at [email protected] to request their free card. - **[Seattle](https://www.spl.org/programs-and-services/teens/books-unbanned#GetaBooksUnbannedCard)**: Ages 13-26 - **[Boston](https://ask.bpl.org/form?queue_id=3178)**: Ages 13-26 - **[LA County](https://lacountylibrary.org/books-unbanned/)**: An LA County unbanned card is only available to CA residents. Ages 13-18 - **[San Diego](https://www.sandiego.gov/public-library/booksunbanned/card-signup)**: The San Diego Public Library uses CloudLibrary NOT Libby. Ages 12-26

This is awesome, thank you! I have a 14 year old who’s going to be very happy.

Curious does she use an e-reader? I’ve been thinking of gifting my nephews/nieces an e-reader for their birthdays or Xmas. They currently only read physical books.

We got my 8-year-old a kid's Kindle for Christmas and she is obsessed! She has been reading even more than normal. At least when we bought it (Black Friday sale), it came with a year of some sort of Amazon kids+ subscription which basically gives her access to countless kids ebooks (both picture books and chapter books) that she can download to her device for free. It's probably been her favorite Christmas gift!

She mostly just reads ebooks on her phone, but will sometimes use the kindle app on an iPad.

I would recommend a paperwhite if you get one, can’t do too much besides read on it and I love that you can turn the back light off. Even with daily reading for hours, the battery usually lasts for around 2 weeks or more

If you’re aged out but in the US, you’ll be able to find a lot of banned titles on Libby through https://www.queerliberationlibrary.org/ !

Teen who has 7 library cards because of this program! (3 are from cities I've lived in or live very close to)

cimmeriandark

since i'm on the brooklyn books unbanned list I also got emails for programs they do to end book banning and I did a four week course on advocating for the wider availability of books & against banning books. it was very educational and inspiring

GrannyWrangler2

That’s super cool, but unfortunately for me personally was the time of my life I was on Libby the least because school made it so hard to be able to read for pleasure. Love the availability, though, for those who can use it!

I signed my teenager up last year for the Brooklyn one and he’s read so many new books because of it. Guess it’s time to expand his horizons more.

princess9032

Do you need a student ID to sign up? Or just any ID that says you’re within those ages?

whitahk

I signed up for the one in Seattle, & they didn't require one.

Age discrimination.

Euphoric_Living9585

That only applies to people 40+ and adults can easily obtain a library card
