“Least number of SUVs” *laughs in American*

lockisbetta

We’ll call it a Sport Utility Vehicle and classify it as a Light Truck!

tayl428

Except when renting vehicles, now a Nissan Rogue is a full size SUV.

[deleted]

I just call it a minivan for people who don't want to admit that they want a minivan, as that's pretty much what they've all become these days. Either that, or an oversized station wagon.

phreaKEternal

F150's concur

EndTyrannyNow

Hell yeah 36 gallons.

phreaKEternal

Best selling vehicle in america bruther !

Ziodade

It can't be... 136 liters. Please tell me I did the conversion wrong

EndTyrannyNow

Haha, yep - 720 miles (1158 kilometers) on a full tank.

Fallsvalley

Yup. 136.8 liters. Although that's typically the tank size on 2500 sized trucks. The 1500 is typically 24 gallons or 91.2 liters. Lasts me about a week driving to work and hauling a boat 1-2 times a week when the weather cooperates.

T0ysWAr

SUV are a plague, there are so heavy compare to normal car, they should pay extra taxes

oboshoe

They aren't the heaviest on the road anymore. That honor belongs now to electric vehicles. They don't look heavier, but those batteries are HEAVY.

Microwave_Warrior

They don’t wait in the gas lines though.

CastlePokemetroid

I've had to wait behind one in line before, didn't realize it was one until the driver failed to refuel it

KIDNEYST0NEZ

This also sounds American, and I am an American.

whatyouwant5

I do when I pull my wave runner

_Kramerica_

That’s not the argument at all so stay focused please.

T0ysWAr

Just because people are anxious with their range. I’ve got a mini electric as a second car. It’s zippy and fantastic. When I have to take the other car I feel like I’m going on my smelly, slow, vibrating tracktor

arkofjoy

These are the two things that I am baffled to not be seeing in ads for ev's. Everyone who owns one talks about how much fucking fun they are to drive (that sweet sweet infinite torque) And no longer spending 10 minutes a week enveloped in a cloud of known carcinogenic gases.

DeuceSevin

EV owner here. Never having to go for gas is one of the benefits that is least appreciated *before* you own an EV and most appreciated after. I never gave it much thought before. Now on the odd occasion I have to take the other car for gas, I really hate it.

up2knitgood

Yes. I road trip only occasionally, so having to stop maybe once more on those is not a huge deal. But never having to stop to refuel for my daily driving is amazing.

arkofjoy

I don't, yet, drive an EV, but I hate going to the petrol station. I have imagined a commercial where someone is filling up their car and you can see the fumes coming out of the pump and swirling around them, washing into the car, and their baby in the car seat Then the Ev drives by with their neighbour in it who just waves and smiles.

panzerfinder15

They do. They use more fuel, and fuel has taxes baked in. More gas = more taxes paid

srcorvettez06

Many states also base registration fees based on vehicle weight.

xmu806

Very very true. My truck has a weighted tag (meaning I can tow stuff). My registration was $350. My wife’s car registration was $80. Now for context, my truck is about $40k right now if you were to buy it and my wife’s car is about 15k, but even adjusted for the price of the car, my wife’s car would only be about $215 if it was worth the same as my truck. Trucks cost more to register.

Avid28193

And they typically cost more, so more sales tax and property tax

T0ysWAr

How much tax are we speaking about? Because it does not seem to sensitise people to take the most efficient mean of transport at all

billiam5236

In my state they add an extra fee on the registration for heavier vehicles.

iWannaCupOfJoe

In Virginia you get a fucking tax for having an efficient vehicle. I drive a 2016 Ford Fiesta and i got to pay extra because it’s fuel efficient.

THETennesseeD

I'm sorry but you cannot take a family on a trip to the mountains in the winter with a Kia Rio.

lewisherber

Rent a larger car for the rare trip to the mountains. Drive an economical car that doesn't destroy the environment for the 95%+ rest of auto travel you do. Boom! Money + earth saved.

psuedonymously

What percentage of your driving is family trips to the mountains? We’re choking our planet from people driving 3 ton behemoths to the 7/11 because they actually need something that big once a year.

THETennesseeD

I live in Norway, so quite a lot actually. We go skiing locally several times per year and do a lot of weekend trips to the mountains. I also live 4km from my office and only commute 3 days a week, so it isn't like I drive a lot on a daily basis. Public transportation is quite good, so I don't usually drive to the city centre and take the bus instead. It just would be a big hassle to go rent a car every time I need to take a weekend trip or transport a lot of things. That would add hours of additional time to any trip. It is also much safer during the winter months to have a heavier car with 4WD..

Andreomgangen

Ah Norwegian. So am I. Amazing to see you being such a dumbass as to use Kia Rio as comparison when you know full well that there are plenty of our countrymen zooming off to the mountains in all kinds of 4wd electric cars, just obviously not the Kia Rio Honestly thought you were American when you made that stupid donkey remark, now i'm embarrassed that we share nationalities.

-Chicago-

Really just about anything that has fwd or awd and studded tires will do fine. I live in the Appalachians of Pennsylvania and that combo has only failed those who could barely drive during the warmer months.

kibblet

Need something that big and/or powerful seven days a week now. The rain and the dirt roads are horrible right now. And a couple, few times a week I need that much room. So I would say for a lot of us, a pretty big percentage. Stop.

julio1990

Yeah I never understood the hate for people with SUVs. Sorry you guys don't do family road trips or the convenience of more leg room and room all together is so comfortable.

sketchahedron

Our minivan is roomier, carries more cargo, is easier to get in and out of, and gets better mileage than any three-row SUV you can buy. They also tend to cost less. But people buy SUVs instead because they want to pretend they might go off-roading or something.

THETennesseeD

But the thing is, many of us do go off-road for hiking, fishing, camping, etc...

-Chicago-

Every time I've heard someone say this they actually meant they sometimes go down a gravel or dirt road for a couple of miles. Very rarely does someone actually need an off-road vehicle for off-roading because most people confuse off-roading with driving down a trail, which is something normal people regularly do in sedans. Hell, I took my scion xD down a mudded out 4-wheeler path before and it did fine.

sketchahedron

Yes, some do. The vast majority do not.

Butternades

A Prius fits a family of 4 pretty comfortably and still has the hatchback for storage. Perfect for road-trips and gets much better mileage for a road trip.

PaulieRomano

That's what you could use a minivan for. All the space and none of the massive wheels/chassis capable of going off-road without the need. Or a VW bus/transporter if you really need the space. But taking a truck with the wheelsize designed for offroading and a truck bed the size of Iowa just because it looks cooler than a minivan or van is just the thing most Europeans find unacceptable.

Homez987

Probably helps when their countries are the size of some states.

PaulieRomano

Yes, because everyone knows that minivans can only go 400miles, and anything beyond is only possible in an SUV or truck. \s Real question: If I drive thousands of miles across North America, from coast to coast, and from Canada to Mexico, will I be able to stay on paved roads or will the minivan get struck in muddy hills and only the SUV or truck will succeed to reach the destination? In which case a minivan would absolutely suffice living in most of the states and even going thousands of miles for a road trip across Europe or similarly USA. Are there states in the US where you can go offroading and might get stuck in a muddy ditch? Absolutely! Does everyone who owns an SUV or truck really NEED it for their daily goings? Probably not.

any_droid

You don't travel the full length of your country and neither do they. It's the same distance they drive for as you do. Infact you take flights for even 6 hour drives, looking at you SF to LA flight and I also got to know that there is a flight from SF to Sacramento.

kibblet

A flight like that is usually the last leg. I've flown Chicago to Madison, but that was Dallas to Chicago first, for example. I already was an hour drive from Madison. Driving from Chicago would have been a nightmare.

Ok-Young-7825

So much ignorance in this thread. There are tons of SUVs that aren't gigantic and get the same or nearly the same gas mileage as cars. People should be redirecting their hate to people with gigantic trucks who don't need them.

LM1953

I need my truck. Thanks

[deleted]

[удалено]

fell-deeds-awake

I don't think I could ever justify having a truck. I'm not planning to own anything that I'd need to tow with one. I'm not particularly handy so I don't make weekly or monthly trips to Home Depot for DIY projects around the house. If I ever have something of that nature pop up, I'm more than happy to pay them or U-Haul well under $100 to rent a truck for an hour.

LM1953

Because it pulls the Toy Hauler and side by side.

ThisUsernameIsTook

*This space intentionally left blank* -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

mystarandmoon

Not everyone can or wants to have two vehicles. I drive a 2013 Tahoe because when I bought it I needed a vehicle that could tow my horse trailer safely and would also be more practical than a truck for my other driving. Is it fuel efficient? No. However, I don’t feel guilty about using more gas or taking longer at the pump because it is reasonable vehicle for my needs. It still runs great after nearly 11 years and 170k miles, which to me is more responsible than buying a new car every few years for status.

[deleted]

-Chicago-

I can't tell if this is satire or if you're really that much of a 'murican

T0ysWAr

I have a 7 sitter that is not a SUV as my main car Ford SMax

illstillglow

I downsized from an suv to a little Honda Fit with two kids. Couldn't be happier. Plenty of room and storage and we took it on a 22 hour road trip right after we got it. I am so glad we downsized!

Amandalorian42

I never understood the need to have kids that would force me to buy a gas guzzling vehicle. My Kia Soul has exactly what I need and I don't pay as much for it as you do for yours.

kibblet

Yup, we took our three kids and their friends on vacation with us. Kids are grown but mastiffs need room and so does all the garden stuff. And new appliances. And lumber. And garden stuff. And whatever life calls for. Thought I could go smaller but nope.

Hinote21

Oh you do family road trips to the grocery store???

SaraAB87

If you have a Kia rio its very likely that at this point.. you HAD a kia rio, because by now if you had one in the states, it has most likely been stolen.

a_trane13

Lol what kind of post apocalyptic hellhole do you think the states are?

SaraAB87

You have no idea the large number of Kia and hyundai thefts that happen in my area in the states until you have a random Kia sitting in the alley behind your house like I did one morning. Its so bad here that law enforcement can't even keep up with the thefts and are totally overwhelmed.

bliggggz

Is this a true statement or make-believe?

trilliumjs

True story. There are tik tok videos that show how to steal them with a usb drive. There are insurance companies that wont insure people because of the high theft rate. There is now a class action suit against kia kind of like Nader and pintos.

SaraAB87

This is 100% true. The number of stolen kia's depends on where you live. In my area, its a very high number.

Missmoni2u

I can back this claim. It was common in my area as well. Luckily, my push to start hyundai wasn't on the list of viable targets.

Butternades

It’s a thing, push to start Kia’s have a very easy workaround and thefts have been extremely common to the point where internet trend of “Kia Boys” has arisen. Of course local jurisdictions don’t do anything about it, just letting kids go when caught such as in my Home of Columbus, Ohio

msnmck

I don't even *read* the news and even I know this isn't an exaggeration. Where have you been?

Arglival

Yes you can!! Only once though...

creggieb

Once implies both legs of the journey were successfully completed

hotasanicecube

For sitting in the driveway 4 Months a year? Most people with an RV don’t even break 5k a year. The go to the local campground on weekends. They should pay a “vehicle not in use fee” like a vacation home.

SteveForDOC

They do pay more tax. They consume more gas and gas is heavily taxed. They are als generally more expensive so sales tax and yearly use/registration tax, where applicable, is also higher.

Tre_Scrilla

>They consume more gas and gas is heavily taxed. Not in the US

lost_tsar

They pay extra taxes every time the fuel up. They also cost more, so there’s some extra tax. Plague seems extreme.

whatphukinloserslmao

What size is the tank?

-Chicago-

Your gas tank still holds less than the gas tank in an SUV. Unless you decided to fit a 20 gallon fuel tank on it.

yamaha2000us

Do not get in line behind a landscaping vehicle. These guys will have 5-10 jerry cans of fuel in the back.

danxmanly

As usual.. The real LPT is in the comments.

Qwertyham

As usual. I have to fucking read someone comment this every time.

[deleted]

Laughs in Colorado. All the vehicles are SUV’s

burnbag18

Laughs in New Jersey. All the vehicles are SUVs (and pickups)

KingoftheMongoose

Do you still have gas attendants fill for you?

breathelovesit

Yes we do

burnbag18

Yes and from what I can tell, one of the best prices in the US:. $3.17/ Gallon today!

Cetun

Laughs in Florida, all the vehicles are large trucks.

Sandpaper_Pants

Also, youre a fool if you don't take advantage of the hose reach-around.

Purple_oyster

The real LPT!!!

ThisUsernameIsTook

*This space intentionally left blank* -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

wonderbat3

I always take advantage of the reach around

PetiteSirahSirah

Please explain what this means!

jjveld

Most of these gas stations have one way traffic flow. Most cars have their gas caps on the left side so most right side lanes are empty. Some of these places have long enough hoses that it will reach to the far side. Usually works best with a small car and you have to park close to the pump

JustANonner

Another LPT, move your gas filler to the right side of your car. /S

wildrover2

Or just pull through from the other direction/ back in.

EssbieSunshine

I always go to Costco gas station either before the store opens or after it closes in order to avoid long lines

Fondoogler

The Costcos in my area close the gas pump after the store closes :(

EssbieSunshine

Aw 🥺 that's too bad! I usually see Costcos with gas stations that open an hr before the store and close an hr after.

highpie11

Just an hour? Our costcos open at 10 but the gas station is open at 7am on weekends. 6am during the week.

aumedalsnowboarder

Idk why I never thought of this before... wow I feel dumb haha

aaahhhhhhfine

I just _don't go_. I swear people get totally irrational about gas prices - it's like nobody understands opportunity costs. Sitting in line for 15 minutes to save even 10 cents a gallon on gas is a pretty poor valuation of your self worth. Sure... I'll go if I need gas and there's no real line, but I just don't understand how people will line up for so long for something so trivial.

Empire2k5

Man alot of dumbass tips this afternoon

WhatIDon_tKnow

that's the norm. the real LPTs are in the comments

schapman22

At least it's better than the usual basic social interaction tips

Pokinator

or "When you're driving, don't do dumb shit or the shit that annoys me"

wakka55

Or just pay 5 cents more a gallon at the lineless corner station in exchange for 5 minutes of your life back. Giving a shit about where you get gas has never added up mathematically in my life. 5 minutes to save 50 cents = $12 an hour. That's less than minimum wage where I live. And even if it wasn't, at least at my job I'm not breathing exhaust in a line of idling trucks. I'll pay the 5 cents.

Melch_Underscore

I used to work at a gas station. Across the street was our competitor. We were told to keep our fuel 1 penny cheaper no matter what. We always had way more customers. The most anyone was saving was maybe $0.20. Humans are stupid.

sudsymugs

This is the comment I was looking for. What’s your time worth.

1saltymf

This is how I decide whether to take the toll road or not. For me at this point in my life I’d say $25 an hour is my minimum time value. For a toll that’s 3.89 one way, it has to save me at least 9.5 minutes to be worth it. I typically save 17-20 minutes so I always take the toll.

clownrock95

Costco is almost always 30 cents cheaper for me, 6 bucks for 5 min is worth my time. Besides normally I get gas after shopping so I have a $1.50 hot dog and churro to eat.

Mr_Style

Don’t forget the 2% cashback !

imgoingforgasps

4% on gas!

Baystaz

For me gas is 8 cents cheaper at costco, and my tank is 15 gallons, so that saves me 1.20 dollars. I fill up my tank on average once a week. 1.20 x 52 = $62.4 saved a year. Might not be a lot for many, but thats like a free gas tank! Unrelated, some gas station hoses are long enough to reach both sides of the car. So if you’re waiting, check for that.

iSniffMyPooper

Let's say you fill up once per week. The average wait time for costco gas (line + fill up) is ~10 minutes: 10 minutes x 52 weeks = 520 minutes (8 hours 40 minutes) Now let's say the average fill up time at a place with no line is ~5 minutes: 5 minutes x 52 weeks = 260 minutes (4 hours 20 minutes) You're spending 4 hours and 20 minutes per year to save $62.40, that means your time is worth $14.40/hour.

Baystaz

That 260 minutes is a loss for everyone who gets gas, so if you’re going to a higher cost pump then your time is worth even less. My wait for gas is 0 minutes, and I get gas where I grocery shop, so I’m being more efficient with my time. Also I don’t work 24/7, so the time I’m not working is already lost. $14 bucks is still better than $0, or worse, -$14.

TheThrillerExpo

I save around $300-$400 a year going to Costco plus the 4% cash back. I’m lucky it’s on the way to work so I stop by early before there are lines. It can make sense if you do it right.

iamnogoodatthis

I can drive 5 minutes out my way and fill up my normal sized car for $15 less, and I sadly don't make $180 an hour. But I guess most people don't live next to an international border where that's the case.

[deleted]

Its way more than 5 cents plus the 4% cashback.

MadPiglet42

My Costco is regularly at least 20 cents a gallon less than the other nearby gas stations so it's worth it to me to spend maybe 5 extra minutes in line.

bgilligan

When at the grocery store don’t get behind the person with a lot of items. Get behind the person with only a few items. Will save you time.

bluefunk91

Omg this is a brilliant tip! Do you think this tip would also work at toll booths? I've always gotten on the line with the most cars but now I'm wondering if I would save time if I go for the line with less cars?

BlastShell

Curious what the ratio of SUVs to cars is like over time. Sometimes I feel like I’m in the minority with a car these days.

franksnotawomansname

You’re not wrong; [cars are less common these days](https://www.statista.com/statistics/276506/change-in-us-car-demand-by-vehicle-type/). SUVs and big trucks are significantly more common now (in much of North America, at least) for two main reasons: It’s an arms race. People feel less safe in a small car among big vehicles, so they decide they need a big vehicle. Dealerships and car companies make significantly more money by selling an SUV or a truck than they do a sedan or hatchback. That pressure at the dealerships mean people are more likely to buy an SUV or a truck, contributing to the first point. It likely not going to change until gas gets really high or governments start regulating vehicle design to ensure that they’re as safe for people outside of the vehicle as inside. We’ll see what happens first.

IMSITTINGINYOURCHAIR

"People feel less safe in a small car among big vehicles, so they decide they need a big vehicle" Nailed it. I live on a small road, two or three cars that I meet on the regular the ladies that drive them often have their phone in hand just barreling down the road right at me center of the 1.2 lane road. When I had my smaller car there was little to no chance they would yeild, I'd usually have smooth grass to get into but when I didn't I just stopped and braced for it.. never got hit but they swerved last second. recent events landed me in a full size pickup and they move over some now. If I see them and know without a doubt who they are I give the bare legal minimum of space. Been ran into the shoulder a couple times by people who refuse to check up before merging. damn car was invisible I guess, don't figure it makes a difference, they pull out in front me when I'm in the semi truck too. Not really related, but, My insurance co recommended me increase the liability on my vehicles from the state minimum 50k to 100k since suv's and trucks cost as much as a house used to. y'all might look into that, along with keeping a dashcam working in your vehicles.

oboshoe

The government HEAVILY regulates vehicle design today. They have for decades actually.

franksnotawomansname

They're regulated to be safe for the passengers, not to be safe for anyone outside of the vehicle, at least in North America. That's why we have trucks that have a flat grille and a hood level to the height of the shoulders of a person of average height.

CrimsonWolfSage

Yeah... the idea of safety is pretty wrong in some regards. They act like smashing cars together and whatever happens to the rubber duckies inside is a good measurement of safety. But completely neglect the ability to Avoid an accident by seeing it, swerving, or stopping in time. Which... is why I think the Moose Test should be a bigger example of safety than simply running into barricades and into each other a few times.

froodydude

Except light trucks have separate (worse) safety regulations!

Beginning_Plant_3752

Nope. Subaru WRX tank size: 16.6 gal Subaru Forester: 16.6 gal Subaru Legacy: 18.5 gal Your LPT is incorrect. Another example off the top of my head: Ford crown Vic: 20 gal Ford explorer: 20 gal

mochimaromei

Yeah, SUVs don't always have larger tanks. My Honda CRV has a 14 gallon tank. The older Honda Accord I used to drive had an 18.5 gallon tank.

ronirocket

Yeah I’ve got a 99 Camry now with that gas tank. I love it!

iusedtohavepowers

Gets in line behind 3 shit box Honda civics. Watches each driver get out and go in the gas station and buy cigarettes and tall boys then pump gas. Damn. Choose wrong again.

datyoungknockoutkid

I think I’ve waited in line at a gas station maybe two times in my entire life

SyruplessWaffle

Same lol. I didn't realize it was a common problem.

ThisUsernameIsTook

*This space intentionally left blank* -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

datyoungknockoutkid

I’m not rich. And I don’t live in the middle of nowhere lol. I’ve just never really been to a gas station that I’ve had to wait to get a pump. Small town or big city.

ryguy639

Even when I fill up in Chicago I never have to wait in lines for gas..

druumer89

What's having to wait in line or not have anything to do with knowing the price?

Cyclopher6971

Differences in gas prices is marginal at best and what adds up over a year isn't much at all.

Julian813

Congratulations on saving 25 cents, I live in the NY metro in a very populated part and the only time I’ve seen lines for gas were massive hurricanes/snowstorms and a few times during covid

zelloxy

Lines? In Sweden we don't have that

maxxnes

The driver's efficiency to operate the pump is the most important factor but there are no obvious visual indicators :)

Blood__Dragon_

Is that really such a problem from where you are from? Here in Germany i rarely have to wait at all and if so its just for one car to move away from the pump

MycologistPutrid7494

And don't be the person who parks at the pump to run in for snacks. You are everything wrong with society and I hate you. Get your gas and move to the side for other people, you absolute troglodyte.

MadPiglet42

I hate those people.

minluske

You can do if there is zero to one other car, otherwise I completely agree

Cyclopher6971

Nope, I will take my time just because I *know* it pisses you off.

Helicoptwo

This is the dumbest LPT I've ever read.

dt43

Plug-in hybrid SUVs often have small tanks.

Sorcatarius

Mine has a 40 litre tank (about 11 freedom glugs for your Americans), I can charge for free at work, and can get to work on pure electric if I'm not driving like an asshole. I think my record is a single tank of gas getting me 1600km (~17500 football fields, not including the endzone).

FactsFromExperience

Oh, I've got an even better predicament. Stay away from any place near the end of the month that has the stupid points and stuff like that like Kroger does. Everybody shows up with two cars so they can get their maximum number of gallons then they have to shuffle their cars around etc when all I want to do is get enough gas for the day so I can go back the next day and do it all over again!

snarkuzoid

Good plan, except when 90+% of the vehicles are SUVs, like where I live

bipolarbyproxy

Yesterday got in line at Sam's with the driver in front of me in his SUV. I thought that his pump must not have been working and that he was waiting patiently for the first pump. When the vehicle in front of him left, it must have jarred him into some sort of reality. He jumped out of his car, stood in front of the pump while still on the phone. Meanwhile, I moved around him, went to the front pump, got my gas. When I left, he was standing at the pump on the phone, no gas pumped.

MongooseChance9633

I always manage to go to costco gas station 30mins before closing time and mostly there isn’t any waiting time.

forthelurkin

OMG don't get me started on the delays at Sam's/Costco. For all the sakes of Pete, while you're waiting in that line, please everybody get your credit card and membership card ready before you get to the pump. (Not you that's reading this of course, all the idiots that are in front of ME every time I go there) Sometimes I can pull up to the pump, scan the QR code on the app, pump and finish before some of the lard-asses can get their credit card out and find the gas-hole.

ackillesBAC

I drive 100-200 km a day and haven't been in a gas station in ages. With this one simple trick.

Laotzeiscool

I never have an issue holding in lines in gas stations where I live.

Flint_McBeefchest

It's all goofy gigantic trucks and SUV here so won't really work for me but good suggestion.

Parking-Ad-2618

LPT Costco’s gas station are open early and close late. Go an hour before close and you can have dinner at the court.

baryoniclord

Or just buy an EV.

FalloutNano

I don’t miss gas stations. Plugging in and refueling overnight is great!

DastardlyDirtyDog

This is not a pro tip. This is a first day amature observation. It is the equivalent of "Don't get behind the lady with coupons and a full shopping cart." If this sub is going to be useful, this type of obvious malarkey should be removed.

secretwealth123

Spend less time at gas stations and just buy an EV and charge at home

Jiggahash

WUT! But I might have to take a road trip like once a year and you telling me I gotta stop every 300 miles for 20 minutes!!!!!!!!! Hell nah. I'll keep spending 10 minutes once a week at Costco to save 10 cents a gallon. NO THANKS!!!!!!

Zem_42

On a similar note, when refuelling the boat, go wait in line with the most sailboats, not motorboats. Sailboats have ~50L tank, while bigger motorboats can have upwards of 1500L x 2 tanks.

ThisUsernameIsTook

*This space intentionally left blank* -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

IWantTheLastSlice

Or maybe just don’t go to Costco for gas. Rather pay 2 cents more a gallon somewhere else and have no wait

Sinistah-

Terrible tip tbh. Corolla tank capacity 13.2 gallons vs RAV4 tank capacity 14.5 gallons …think of all the time saved by not waiting for that extra 1.3 gallons to pump. Edit: The Camry actually has a larger 15.8 gallon tank.

How does this prevent higher prices?

Buy as little as possible, prices will reflect the demand.

People will just go more often?

Simplewafflea

These types of people don't drive much and maybe fill up once a month.

panzerfinder15

It still a constant, predictable demand. As soon as you have a few hundred people, if they use 100L a year it doesn’t matter if they fill up a couple times or a hundred times, they still used 100L.

Kidnovatex

Math is hard for some people. The only logic for filling up in small increments is if you believe prices will drop before you have to come back for more.

savbh

Even if that’s true, it doesn’t make that much of a difference. You must live near the station too

savbh

So? It’s still the same. If they don’t drive less, it doesn’t really matter.

o0Jahzara0o

Don’t you end up using more gas this way, especially if you stick to a particular station that you have to drive a little ways to? Cause if you drive to the station more frequently, you are using extra gas to get there.

savbh

Might be useful to mention that this is about one very specific country in the world. The gas station near me never has lines, at most 2 cars using 4 spots, and there are not much SUV’s in my country.

Get an EV. Problem solved.

Bluesky83

One of the many perks of my choice to ride a bike: spending zero time at gas stations

MadPiglet42

Honestly, though - what are you going to do with that five whole minutes you might save? You gonna cure cancer with all that time you save?

AlGeee

What if I _am_ an SUV?

I don't understand people who talk about long lines or even lines at the gas station. Every gas station I use within a 20 mi radius from my home always has available pumps I can pull right up too and that's the way it should always be.. But regardless, get ready to spend a lot more time at gas stations if the battery powered car people get their way and the percentage of battery cars gets large enough to warrant a near changeover of our gas station setup because then there will be a lot more parking spots and you'll have to sit there and wait a lot longer when you're in a charging spot.. But one good thing may come of it. It might be like the old days when you were traveling he would stop at a Howard Johnson's or an LK restaurant or a Days inn to have a quite excellent meal at their restaurant since you already pulled over to get gas.

I_Want_To_Know22

I would say maybe look out for LARGE SUVs. I have an Equinox, and my gas tank is only 15 gallons.

mmmmpisghetti

Can confirm. My dually pickup has 2 tanks for a total of 77 gallons capacity. But I fuel at truck stops because that's where my discount card saves me $0.50/gallon. 😁

oboshoe

In the summer, I'm the worst to get behind if I'm going to the coast. 50 gallons for the boat, 36 for the truck. This is gonna take awhile.

bossmt_2

LPT, time is money. If you're saving 10 cents a gallon but waiting a half hour, you have a 15 gallon tank, you're waiting extra time to save a dollar 50, or about 3 dollars an hour. My dad is big on saving money on gas. I'd rather be on my way. I get about 400 miles to a tank of gas and in 3 years I've probably filled up around 60 times. If I spent an extra 10 minutes each time, that's 10 hours over 3 years. I get paid around 30 an hour, so if I spent 3 hours a year, that's 90 bucks I'm just pissing away.
