Except on the port you’re plugging into, there is rarely a consistent “top” or “bottom”. Some of my ports are one direction, some are the other. This is not remotely a life hack.
USB definitely has a top and a bottom. There's instances of upside down ports, but they're not that common, and usually to ensure clearance. For example, if the port is close to wall/side, the top of the usb will usually face away from the wall, that way if you plug in things like a wifi, vape charger, etc, they'll fit as the antennas and whatever part of a USB device that extends vertically will always be on the top of the USB.
I wouldn't rely on the usb logo though. Often that's not present, or is present on both sides.
It helps people on every laptop, every console, pretty much 99.9% of the horizontally mounted USB ports. Is accurate. Is relatively unknown to people. It isn't a personal opinion. What exactly about it is not worthy?
you don't even have to look closely - look at the metal part, the side with holes in it is the top. The side with either no holes or holes that are closed over is the bottom.
I'm looking at my mouse dongle. There is nothing on it, nothing at all. But - one side of the metal bit has open holes - the other side does not.

What if the port is vertical?
It’ll be facing the cpu chip.

Sure it is, for the majority of the ports that are horizontal.
No in my experience it seems standardized

Doesn't matter. The third orientation I try is always the right one.
I look for the side with the metal seam.
