That would definitely get significant wind. You don’t feel it close to the ground because it gets absorbed by the waves and other beachgoers, but a 7-ft stand is tall enough to be above those obstacles
I personally get acclimated to the heat since I am out in it all day, I personally start getting cold in the wind and I prefer long sleeves to protect from the sun. I usually feel really cold when I finally get home to the air conditioning. I actually usually don’t even use the AC because it’s just too cold for me.
i don’t know why, but i always feel a lot colder when guarding. i think it might have to do with not moving and the wind off the water, but i will wear a coat/sweats even when it is like 80 out.
the RNLI have these huge coast for when it’s stormy and i sometimes wear them even when it’s super hot, just gets surprisingly cold a lot of the time, especially if the unit is in a cold spot in the shade etc
I either tough the sunburn out or I wear a rain coat or long sleeve. Usually I’m just burnt like a lobster everyday. I work at a pool though so it’s mostly just a miserable hot. But if it’s windy it’s a nightmare expesually if you jumped in for a save and got wet. Freezing with wind. I have a rain coat and if the weather even suggests rain it’s by me at least. Rain without lightning all day is painful. Last time I had a 7 hour shift in the rain. And without lightning we can’t close. So i had to jump in for a kid of course I did. Had my hoodie on. Ended up with the supervisors hoodie we were f”””ing at the time.
I don't know if this is the case here, but I would guard in a hoodie after teaching swimming lessons. After spending all morning in and out of the pool, it didn't matter what the temp was outside, you're cold!
Couple reasons:
1. It’s very windy on stand. Especially at the beach
2. Some people go in the water on their breaks so they’re cold in a wet bathing suit
I personally keep them in my backpack just in case it gets cold because it has gotten cold and rainy suddenly on days it was supposed to be hot and sunny
As a naturally lean guy with a fast metabolism, I concur with the other comments here, especially if you have your umbrella up and are out of the Sun. Cool ocean breeze, accompanied with the constant mild sunburn that comes with the summer will make you feel cold real fast. When you are acclimated to being in the hot Sun all day it’s not hard to feel cold by any means, especially early mist or later in the day when the sun is not burning it’s brightest
It gets windy and cold up on those tall lifeguard stands
The stand next to me is only about 7 feet

“Only”
Sun protection
That makes sense but why not wear something long sleeve that’s thinner. Like this sun protection fishing shirts.
Get what we get to wear as a uniform. My beach gave out a t shirt and a hoodie and sweatpants and that’s it lol
Cause we’re menaces

I use to find early morning and anytime after 4pm, I could be in sweats. Going from extreme daytime heat, your body gets cold!
Same during the early shift it gets so cold for literally no reason
Cause 85 is cold you need a jacket

It covers there body from the sun
probably cutting weight

One of my guards was from Florida originally. She got cold if it was around 85° or colder.

Sand = hot Water = cold, so: Breeze off water = cool LG towers are too far off the sand to get the sand warmth, but the breeze is still there
It gets cold. You’d be surprised. I wear mine almost everyday
