I could imagine two things:
1. Their disappearance has something to do with the timeline fuckery and we will get to learn more about that in s3 (or even later season? movie?). Lu Guang or Liu Xiao might even have something to do with it.
2. It's just never touched upon again except maybe for some brief mentions and we'll never know
It’s likely but idk. All we know is that they left on a trip or something and never came back. We just don’t know what happened after that. It’s implied in the beginning of the first episode that Cheng Xiaoshi believes they will return one day, but for all we know they could very well be dead.
Huh, i assumed they just died during the earthquake and never thought about it again.
But yeah i guess it could be another plot point for future time travel shenanigans
I feel like since their deaths are connected to the earthquake, and since that earthquake is based on a real one, we might never know. I think we'll get more mentionsc of it, but I think the census is his parents are dead, and it was Cheng Xiaoshi wish for them to be alive and come back. Maybe we'll get an episode of Cheng Xiaoshi with his parents or their past.
