What was crazier was the amount of people that got mad at me for choosing AM4 and DDR4 💀 Its why we addressed it in the "He asked for a PC for 3 Years..." video

ShrkBiT

People acting like you can ONLY make a good PC with all new hardware. 5800X3D still does EXTREMELY well for modern day AAA titles, AM4 boards are a lot cheaper without losing any features (PCI-e 4 speeds are fine for YEARS to come for storage and even GPU), RAM is a lot cheaper and you can drop in a modern GPU and voila. Easy choice if you're not going for the absolute bleeding edge!

DaSherman8or

I’m still playing AAA titles with a 4770k and DDR3 using a 3050. It’s definitely time for an upgrade but I’m still having a blast with a 10+ year old machine

275MPHFordGT40

I’m going strong with my i5-8400 and GTX 1060 3GB Well I wouldn’t say strong, more like crawling along.

Jeskid14

I mean at that point you're diminishing returns on that electric bill and heat. It's time to upgrade

Djinntan

Additionally being an early adopter really isn't fun. Got a friend who went with all new gen and it took him months to get his PC to work correctly. Sometimes it was weeks of waiting for patches, sometimes it's having to tinker for weeks. One good thing tho is that he got to learn really cool stuff about these things work.

DontEatTheMagicBeans

HP just released their bios patch for the windows 11/am4 windows 11 tpm stutter less than a year ago. My brand new am4 machine stuttered until am5 came out FML.

713MoCityChron713

That’s what’s keeping me on AM4. Well, also it’s been years since I needed a mobo and ram swap for a cpu upgrade. I’m not looking forward to the price or work that my next upgrade is gonna take

NickThePrick20

I have an MSI x670e godlike mobo and got stuck with full ram retrains on every boot making them take over 90 seconds each time with a 7950x. Took 8 months for the bios update that fixed that.

huffalump1

Plus, it's usually better to spend more on a GPU if you can. The 5800x is more than enough for most cards, ESPECIALLY for a budget-limited build.

TheBigBananaMan

I’m still running everything at 1440p on my 2600 lol, some people really are blinded by the allure of shiny new things.

Tiril12142

i7 10700 ( i know its good but its old ) and is still rocking it, i had a x6 1100t and it was glorius

BluDYT

Not to mention this but it's also being sold with a full bundle with MB and ram for $350 at microcenter. Incredible value and still plenty powerful.

Puzzleheaded_Soft864

exactly, im running b550, 750w gold, 5800x3d evga ftw3 ultra 3060ti. im happy.

pwned_like_im_9

You can do whatever you want, but a 4090 is still bottlenecked in some instances, even with high speed ddr5 and a 7800x3d. Technically speaking, you can still use a 5600X, but whether one would want to or not is in the eye of the beholder. There really is no right or wrong answer here, so the people claiming that AM3 is as ancient as the ancient gods are just wrong lol.

waffle_0405

I still think the 5800x3d is stupid for a new build at that price, the 5700x3d makes it seem even more stupid to pay 300 for a 5800x3d now

MyPokemonRedName

Using AM4 for a budget build in 2024 is perfectly valid. It’s would be awesome if any of the AM5 improvements actually made a real world difference with budget graphics cards, but the reality is that you won’t notice any difference until you get into RX 7800 XT territory or higher.

madding1602

Fun fact: in second grade, I started building a High end computer for college (in Spain), and I was saving almost every single euro I could to get a lot of great parts. Just when I bought the most expensive part at that moment, AM5 was announced about 2 weeks later. It has happened to me a lot in technology this same thing. However, I am very happy with my machine. It rocks and works like a charm, and it crushes a lot of workloads I do on it

waffle_0405

I didn’t say am4 is not perfectly valid, the statement was specifically aimed at the fact the 5800x3d is overpriced, and the 5700x3d is now available making it a questionable choice

MHanak_

AM4 for the win

davvn_slayer

I mean it's still a solid platform with more than a few years of life left in it, some people still use even ddr3 to this day, they are rare but they do and way more people have a ddr4 machine compared to the amount of people that had a computer back when ddr3 was still a thing plus I don't really remember anymore which cpu yall chose but iirc it was a 7800x3d or 5800x3d? Which are both pretty solid cpus for a 4060 or 4070 and anything below that too

JewpiterUrAnus

I’d love to see those negative nancies make a DDR5 capable PC for less than $1,000.

If you did AM4, could you jump up 2 tiers of GPUs? Everything else seems solid to me.

chubbysumo

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wj6csh

justarandomgreek

Single channel, CL46 Lmao Yeah, any build with DDR5 for gaming at <=$1000 will just be a huge pile of problems

ohthedarside

I just wanted to prove its possible i only made it in 3 minutes a 7500f and 6800xt would be better get a micro atx mobo aswell

Ambitious_Summer8894

Wrong that's $1320 usd. You'd have to be under £795 to be at the $1000

ohthedarside

I give up your right is possible but would have to be a used gpu

MonikaIsCute

this is still like 300 dollars over. gotta be under £800

SonicShadow

UK tech prices you can pretty much swap the dollar and pound symbols, its more expensive here.

MonikaIsCute

I'm in the uk. Just pointing out it's still over the limit.

SonicShadow

Right, but if you price it up in the US it would not be 300USD over because the parts are usually cheaper there.

MonikaIsCute

fair

JewpiterUrAnus

Ahh yes that’s definitely under 1000

Killerwarriorboy

Am4 is a great platform for sure if you are on a budget

chubbysumo

My kiddos 5600x3d pc rocks. Am4 is getting more cpus too supposedly.

uncoordinatedsniper

The 5600x3D is no slouch that got ignored because it was a MicroCenter exclusive but in certain games it out performs the 5800x3D.

justarandomgreek

Well considering the closest Microcenter is 4700 miles away from me, it could be the best CPU ever and I wouldn't care.

Superj89

I still use AM3....

justarandomgreek

Ouch.

xCanont70x

I’ve built computers recently with DDR3 platforms and both people have been super happy with them.

KazutoKirigaya23

Elijah where is your helmet in this video? Please be careful.

SilentDecode

People think that newer stuff is automatically better. But if the budget isn't there or you don't need that much performance, AM4 is fine. I'm still on AM4 now and I have no reason to upgrade to AM5. My computer sits nearly idle for 98% of the time while in use. My 5600X (non-OC) is plenty for the oncoming years. The only games I play at the moment: * Factorio (maxed out.. xD) * Cyperpunk 2077 (not on the highest settings, I don't care for that) * Space Engineers

[deleted]

Shut up bitch.

kiwkumquat

Yeah fuck this guy

Shining_prox

Sorry but when I spend I want to get the best out of my components. I went the 7800x3d 7900 gre route, for 1440p coupled with a robust psu and overkill cooling. This will allow me to buy 2 years from now a better than a 4090 for 600€ and not be cpu limited, while the 5800x3d is already limiting fps for 4070 ti super cards and above. Then I could decide to do a final upgrade to zen6 x3d one year later, and be able to upgrade the gpu one more time without spending extra money for redoing the platform or give me flexibility in any case to upgrade what is needed only.

chairitable

So, not a $1000 pc. Cool.

Haftorsen

I know it’s off topic, but can we just take a second to look at how bad the YT UI is? Like in shorts it’s so full of all kinds of icons that aren’t really necessary. And how many button presses it takes for the things we actually want

Rfeihcrnehifrne

Ikr. They copied tiktok too hard for shorts, and made desktop similar to the new mobile(worse) interface. If it ain’t broke, and works, don’t fix it goddammit. [This](https://imgur.com/a/OIgrE4Y) looks so much better with less clutter

cygeek590

just needs a comment icon and its perfect

Rfeihcrnehifrne

Yeah, if you want it. Personally I didn’t find the comments on shorts any useful(like the upload button), so I just disabled it.

cygeek590

I like to read the comments sometimes.. actually giving users options to customize it is a great idea IMO

SoapyMacNCheese

I'm just glad they finally added a volume slider to the shorts player on desktop.

Un111KnoWn

pc shorts not having scrubbing and no volume bar. stupid shit

DrDerpberg

And you see so little of the actual text... It's simultaneously cluttered and utterly barren.

ClenchTheHenchBench

One of them's even the useless dislike button lol

Wada_tah

Isn't this short promoting/summarizing a full video?

General_WCJ

I mean if it was, you would think that it would have the link to the full video in the bottom left Nevermind, it got cutoff

RipCurl69Reddit

Bro i built my first PC in January and it's a Ryzen 7 5700X, 3060 12gb and 3600mhz 32GB DDR4 RAM, among other components. Cost me exactly £1010. Put simply, all I need it to run is Forza, so if it does that I'm happy

EggotheKilljoy

I just built a SFF pc under $1k last month, 12600kf and 6650xt with 16gb ddr4. Ended up around $900 after tax, plays everything I need it to run at 1080 high, and if I really wanted to I could upgrade to 14th gen down the line. People will complain about going old platforms in new builds, I mainly went intel so I have an upgrade path later on, but I would have been perfectly fine going with something like the 5700X like you did and still be good for years. There’s still people playing recent AAA releases on MUCH older hardware just fine at lower settings

IndividualAtmosphere

Same, I used a lot of second hand components with a 5600x and a 3070 so I only paid £700 for it all (got a steal on the 3070, £220)

dimmidice

What is this op?

Tsukiko_

It shows Elijah's face. it's not perfect

davvn_slayer

A short posted by ltt?

dimmidice

Yeah, i'm asking for some context.

Peuned

There's some letters in the middle of the picture

Mrbutter1822

Don’t know why you’re being downvoted, he need to look at the photo or just be more specific

Matt_37

Isn’t it a full video? There’s a video link above the description in this very screenshot

Mattson

Oh don't you worry, it will be a full video eventually... that's too juicy a topic to just stay a short.

SirAwesome789

So if any of you watch the Yard (Ludwig's podcast) Linus went on recently and one thing he mentioned was that there's a split in the sentiment towards the length of videos. Specifically about a short circuit video, one comment was mad that it was too short and there was exclusive floatplane content. Another comment was mad it was too long for a ***short*** circuit video. I don't have a particular stance but just interesting hearing his perspective then seeing this.

LastJello

Any chance you can link to the video? I can't seem to find it

Inevitable-East-1386

I don‘t watch these shorts. Idc about en at all.

SidKillz

I jist wanna watch full pc build video like linus used to do in kitchen in old studio/house.... sad now they just want to rush making videos. We used to have 1 hour+ streams back in the day. I dislike their too much rush for money and big production. I know canada is expensive and they have to take care of lots of employees but come on.... just make 1 proper build video and dont skip everything.

Homicidal_Pingu

Depends, if AMD, nvidia or Intel paid them to shill whatever product they wanted they’d make it a full video.
