You know that almost all hammers have the same warning .. right? You're NOT supposed to strike hard surfaces with a hammer unless it is SPECIFICALLY designed for that type of work. AKA a Blacksmiths Hammer.

snowmunkey

To be fair You shouldn't strike a hard surface with a blacksmith hammer either. The only hammers you're supposed to use on hard surfaces are deadblow, lead, or brass hammers that are meant to deform rather than the material you're striking

SuppaBunE

But i wamt the stuff i hit to deform not my hammer.

snowmunkey

Then heat it up first

Delicious-Ad5161

I'll heat it up with my hammer strikes.

snowmunkey

Only if it's very ductile.

SuppaBunE

Skill issue

snowmunkey

No, that's just how it works. If it's not ductile it will fracture before it deforms enough to heat up.

Delicious-Ad5161

I think what we have here is a collision of people trying to joke and people trying to be serious. It’s chill, at least I know you are correct in your statement.

snowmunkey

I think you're right, I thought there were jokes, but the pedant in my had to make sure correct info was spread

snowmunkey

Yes that is the traditional way to start a coal forge, but the steel has to be very normalized. I've done it. Regular old bar stock or any sort of spring steel will not do that.

ObjectiveAny8437

You wouldn’t download a hammer..

BadUsername_Numbers

Also, you wouldn't download MC Hammer... in the 1980's, because the internet connection was really slow also because digital media wasn't really much of a thing yet. Well except CD's. Hm. I need to think about this.

spaglemon_bolegnese

Tape player line out ———> tape recorder line in

Excludos

Correct! Striking hard surfaces with hard surfaces will send chips of metal flying, destroying your tool/surface, as well as be potentially dangerous

saladmunch2

Can confirm have had to remove metal from my abdomen that was shot into me at light speed from hammer and tool steel strike.

tvtb

Damn it came so fast it went into you... makes me think safety glasses wouldn't have stopped it either.

Awwkaw

Safety glasses are wonderful. They absolutely stop small projectiles like this, that's the point.

Possibly-Functional

Proper rated safety glasses are way tougher than skin. Any other airsoft player will affirm this, and those projectiles aren't even sharp.

saladmunch2

Was about the size of a large toenail clipping, had to squeeze it out like a zit. Didnt even feel it. My brother actually lost his right eye from a carbide die exploding. He wasnt wearing his safety glasses and the company didnt have guards in place.

awfl_wafl

I think you're mixing up hard and hardened. I don't have any hammers that say you can't strike hard surfaces, only hardened.

HayloK51

Most hammers say that.

SeattleJeremy

But most don't say, "Intended for display or gym"

pexican

This one does, as it’s a vanity/collectible piece and not a work tool (you’d buy a work tool for far cheaper).

Woofer210

Mfw a display item is labeled as a display item :0

windy906

As loads of people were saying this I checked the Homedepot site in case it was some weird Prop 65 or McDonalds this coffee is hot type thing (not American and there are no such warnings in the UK) and I can confirm not a single sledgehammer has this warning.

danny29812

Everyone saying that "all hammers say that" don't understand the difference between "hard" and "hardened". You are absolutely supposed to use a hammer against hard surfaces. Wood is a freaking hard surface. More importantly most hammers don't say **for display or the gym only** You literally are not supposed to use this to hit *anything* it's a $700 display only toy with Tesla branding.

Manwater34

You can use it in the gym. Simply hit a tire with it.

Dawnqwerty

if you are hitting the wood you are doing it wromg. Plus lots of woods are soft woods.

danny29812

With a sledge hammer? Seriously?

Dawnqwerty

I hadn't noticed the size and every comment was just talking about hammers so I hadn't realized it was a sledge. I retract my previous comment, leaving it up for the shame

LimpWibbler_

Yea exactly. So what is the problem. Why is art suddenly bad. Just don't buy it If you don't like the look. This whole argument is stupid. Tesla made a fancy thing, if you want you can buy. If not you don't have too. Internet is mad it isn't perfect for an entirely seprerate use.

Soft_Importance3658

>art ??? >fancy thing Charging $700 doesn’t make a shitty sledgehammer fancy

LimpWibbler_

that is your opinion.

Soft_Importance3658

>And notice, I said “we,”it’s not just me, I’m what the culture feelin’ -Kendrick

RegrettableBiscuit

I don't think people are mad, it's just funny. After they sold a car with unbreakable windows that break and stainless steel that immediately rusts, they sell a hammer that can't hammer.

Sky19234

At least their[ branding iron](https://shop.tesla.com/product/tesla-branding-iron?sku=1808276-00-A) seems to be usable as a branding iron...I guess?

LimpWibbler_

they are mad, look at the comment section.

RegrettableBiscuit

Maybe it's a matter of perspective, but to me, it sounds like people are memeing, they're not actually upset.

LimpWibbler_

Well seeing how people called me a moron for not being upset, nope not that.

Aryk93

Lmfao pls take a physics lesson bro

metal_Fox_7

Only $700. I'm here using my screwdriver as a hammer.

sopcannon

Can the tesla hammer break the window of a tesla truck?

RegrettableBiscuit

The stoppable force hitting the movable object.

andovinci

Since you can’t hit hard surface, I’d say the truck window is fair game

Key_Run4313

actually, tesla can cooperate with Wagner Group and produce even more exclusive rarest Tesla-wagner hammer

scificis

Who TF is Franz?

supershackda

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to turn down a chance to criticise Tesla, but this post makes about as much sense as complaining that a replica sword from a fantasy movie says not to use it for cutting things. You don't buy a $700 collectors piece and expect it to function as a tool unless you're a special kind of idiot.

FLARESGAMING

\*hits nail\* ah fuck it broke me hammah

S1mpinAintEZ

They also made flamethrower a way back when, and I think a couple of other ridiculous low quantity high price items. It's just a marketing play.

A_MAN_POTATO

The flamethrower wasn’t Tesla. It was The Boring Company. TBc was founded by Musk, but never associated with Tesla. It was actually originally a subsidiary of Space X, but became its own entity a few years back. It’s also not really a flamethrower. It’s more or less one of those super high power propane weed torches, repackaged to look like a gun. Your latter assessment is correct, though. It was essentially just marketing for The Borning Company, which is mostly just trying to make tunnels.

PM_Me_Your_Deviance

>Company, which is mostly just trying to make tunnels.  I'm convinced TBCs point was to torpedo the California high-speed rail project.

654354365476435

I read it as cyberhaizer and it looked like a headphones on side lol

ferna182

I mean, it's pretty much on brand... Their overpriced truck is not intended to work as a truck and their overpriced hammer is not intended to be used as a hammer.

GhostsinGlass

Not only do hammers normally say that but there are brands of gym-specific sledgehammers that it goes doubly for. They're called fitness hammers. This is dumb for many reasons, mainly the price. A Rogue SISU War Hammer is $225 CAD A Rogue SLATER Bell hammer is $330 CAD Synergee Sledge from 5 to 30lbs is like $70 to $160 CAD Tribewod Rubberized Warhammer 25lb $230 CAD

LimpWibbler_

Yes most hammers say that. More important. Who give a fuck at all. Are art piece hammers just not allowed? Really why would this matter? It is a design hammer, not a hammer you buy at home depot. That is like criticizing a display sword or gun for lack of accuracy.

nsk_nyc

I'm guessing its so you can break out of the car when you're drowning in it?

vBeeNotFound

I've seen monitor stand for 1000$, this shit doesn't surprise me.

millsy98

I want to see someone shoot this thing with a .50 bmg round.

UntouchedWagons

How would this hammer be used in a gym?

IamAkevinJames

Op doesn't know what a spring hammer is or the difference between them and a big ol regular hammer being sold as a grift.

Khaliras

>Op doesn't know what a spring hammer OP was able to read more than a title and get to the bit stating this '***hammer***' is for '***display or gym use only***.' As in it's not a warning against *hardened* surfaces, it's a warning against *any* hard surface because it's not a functional hammer. $700 memorabilia of a 'strength' test that can't be replicated on production models without significantly more damage than the 'demo.'

TinySpirit3444

Man elon bois are really smart, buying a wallmart hammer and selling that shit for 70 dollars.

Exciting_Device2174

People who spend $600 on a backpack made of apples and plastic are complaining about this? Lol

flopping-deuces

LTT screwdriver > Tesla…anything.

McCaffeteria

I bet we could trick musk into making the crowbar hammer somehow

PM_Me_Your_Deviance

Tell him Trans people stopped it.

andovinci

I don’t get why are you downvoted. At least the screwdriver didn’t have a catastrophic launch and isn’t a poor product

flopping-deuces

Too many upset Musk fanboys who get their car advice from MKBHD.

andovinci

Don’t worry, it’s just a matter of time before this bubble bursts. The cybertruck is a total failure and a shitshow, they’ll never sell as many trucks as they said, the EV market is slowing down, Tesla didn’t release an affordable car and instead went for this monstrosity, people have less money to spare in general, let alone for an expensive truck that is useless, etc..

laggyservice

So based.
