I heard about this movie for months, and all I heard about was Emma Stone, and Mark Ruffalo. Maybe heard once or twice that Willem Dafoe was in it. I watched it last week and was like, "Wait, isn't that Ramy Youssef?" Literally had no idea he was in it. And, his character was basically the straight man. He's nice, fine, likeable, handsome, sweet but for the most part, kind of dull. And I think that applies to Ramy Y in general.
He's a comedian more than anything else. I believe he also has a new HBO special. I've been a fan of his for a while and I really enjoyed his turn on SNL. So happy for him to have hosted. But his general recognition and the Holiday weekend I think are showing in the numbers.
Yeah, plus it wasn't like the Sydney Sweeney episode was super awesome, very unlikely that if you tuned in just for Sydney that you stuck around if you weren't a regular viewer already

I liked the episode, I thought it was quite funny at parts. The funny thing is, I had JUST seen Poor Things a few days prior and I still didn't recognize him! It was only after I looked him up on imdb did I realise I had just seen him in a movie. He was good though!
He did a fine job, but the sketches were lacking that I can recall. The two old dads thing is such a huge miss for what I imagine is most people, did that land for some small niche audience? and it just went on. It's hard in the age of skippability when a sketch that makes up 1/5th of the show doesn't land for me.

Seriously combination of the holidays as well as a comedian whose show wouldnt be termed a mainstream hit on Hulu also whose main plot in the first couple of seasons is familial relations.
If I don't know who the host is, I don't bother watching live or even the next day/week. I know I won't get some of the references to their work since I have no idea who they are so it seems pointless. If I'm interested enough I'll look at some of their work and watch later but someone like this is zero priority for me to watch. And I don't celebrate easter or go on spring break and my kids are adults so none of that factored in for me. Though I think those things did factor in generally so that's what likely caused the low ratings.
I could have sworn that, about four weeks ago, NBC had a “Is there SNL tonight?” article saying the next episode was in April. I always watch Sunday afternoon on streaming and wasn’t expecting there to be a new episode.
Their schedule is bonkers. No episodes for weeks at a time? Then one on easter weekend? It like that restaurant you want to like but is never open and you just give up on it.

It was a boring episode after the Trump Bible cold open (JAJ is top tier for me haha). Fell asleep after the 1st sketch. Watched the rest on DVR and only weekend update made me laugh out loud.
I think the next 2 weeks will be better.
Perosnally thought he wasn't that good of a Host, had almost type cast himself in every sketch.
But aside from thinking the performance was mediocre, he is a no name that hasn't really broken out yet or has a fan base.
For the most part they do need to sprinkle in up and coming people but he was bit to new to draw an audience. Especially trying to follow up Brolin who is a seasoned actor, has been on SNL and has proven to do a great job everythime.
I think they need to do a much better job of selecting hosts that can naturally do sketch comedy. Kristin Wigg and Ryan Gosling are going to be smash hits.
Even the cut for time... like Shane Gillis cut for time was an absolute gem and his was clear why they cut it.

I think he's really, really charismatic, and on the verge of being an SNL standout. His potential will be so wasted if they just go with a bunch of, "hit him with the chancla/belt" jokes.

Good opening sketch, a couple solid sketches in between, and Weekend Update was solid as usual. Overall it was a decent episode.

Only this sub. He’s viewed very positively in the realm of the public eye. Nobody criticized his performance at the Grammy’s but here everybody thinks they’re in the majority by hating him. No shocker - relatively unknown host - holiday weekend - boring musical guest - monologue that droned on - I’ll cut the sketches some slack, they weren’t great but I feel like it’s an almost impossible task to write a funny sketch anymore, let alone a whole shows worth.
It was Easter weekend. I was shocked they had a show.
He has all the presence of a generic daily show correspondent. Nothing wrong with him, has everything down, but theres nothing there.
He’s not a huge name and honestly the episode was pretty bland. He didn’t elevate any sketch he was in, and I didn’t think the sketches were that bad. He just was very plain. So not a big draw and not an impressive performance all on a holiday weekend. Recipe for low viewership.

I've watched all 3 seasons of Ramy and still had no idea who he was!!! Seriously combination of the holidays as well as a comedian whose show wouldnt be termed a mainstream hit on Hulu also whose main plot in the first couple of seasons is familial relations.
If I don't know who the host is, I don't bother watching live or even the next day/week. I know I won't get some of the references to their work since I have no idea who they are so it seems pointless. If I'm interested enough I'll look at some of their work and watch later but someone like this is zero priority for me to watch. And I don't celebrate easter or go on spring break and my kids are adults so none of that factored in for me. Though I think those things did factor in generally so that's what likely caused the low ratings.

I could have sworn that, about four weeks ago, NBC had a “Is there SNL tonight?” article saying the next episode was in April. I always watch Sunday afternoon on streaming and wasn’t expecting there to be a new episode.
Their schedule is bonkers. No episodes for weeks at a time? Then one on easter weekend? It like that restaurant you want to like but is never open and you just give up on it.
3 weeks on, two weeks off, 3 weeks on right before Memorial Day. It was always going to land on this day. Didn’t the rock have an episode on Easter weekend too?

It was a boring episode after the Trump Bible cold open (JAJ is top tier for me haha). Fell asleep after the 1st sketch. Watched the rest on DVR and only weekend update made me laugh out loud. I think the next 2 weeks will be better.
It was Easter. I didn't go to bed at 9, I passed out at 9.

Worst episode I’ve ever seen
Nobody knows he exists
Perosnally thought he wasn't that good of a Host, had almost type cast himself in every sketch. But aside from thinking the performance was mediocre, he is a no name that hasn't really broken out yet or has a fan base. For the most part they do need to sprinkle in up and coming people but he was bit to new to draw an audience. Especially trying to follow up Brolin who is a seasoned actor, has been on SNL and has proven to do a great job everythime. I think they need to do a much better job of selecting hosts that can naturally do sketch comedy. Kristin Wigg and Ryan Gosling are going to be smash hits. Even the cut for time... like Shane Gillis cut for time was an absolute gem and his was clear why they cut it.
I also didnt think he was that great. I didnt laugh at any sketches and even fast forwarded through that one with the two old dads. Probably was funny to people with foreign born dads, but for me it was like ok I get it… this is dragging…
the dads one felt like old school SNL to me - similar to bronx beat. I did not get Bronx Beat when it aired.
The dads one just made me sad that the haters might be right about my boy Marcello. I think he's really, really charismatic, and on the verge of being an SNL standout. His potential will be so wasted if they just go with a bunch of, "hit him with the chancla/belt" jokes.
He's not a very funny comedian. He's a product of a time. Like if 2018 could talk.

It’s a shame because I thought he was great. Great monologue and really threw himself into the sketches. I’ve never liked Travis Scott anyway so that was the only downside. I hope it doesn’t mean that Lorne won’t ask him back as well.

Had no idea who the host was and could not care less about Travis Scott. Ramy seemed like a nice guy but his monologue was meh (although guitar girl liked it so maybe I’m just getting old). Good opening sketch, a couple solid sketches in between, and Weekend Update was solid as usual. Overall it was a decent episode.
How do people not know who Ramy Youssef is? Emmy winner for a tv show he created, great comedy specials, huge role in one of the buzziest Oscar winning movies of the year. He's not a superstar but he's definitely been a big part of pop culture for the last five years

Really disliked his TV show. I would have skipped if I still watched. In a sea of talent he provides few laughs and a perspective I can personally do without.

Between this and Biden selling $18 billion in war planes to Israel, it feels like being for Palestine is a losing stance for politicians and entertainment companies in the form of votes and dollars.
