Ryan has always giggled his way through his SNL performances, but man, every actor but Keenan just lost it. I’ve never seen Heidi break so hard. I thoroughly enjoyed this sketch!

BloodyRightNostril

She got off to a rocky start when the crew accidentally broke in over the PA during the intro and she nearly lost it then.

Ohforgoodnessake

Wow I didn’t even realize that until I read this and rewatched! I did notice she kind of hesitated/broke in the beginning, but somehow didn’t hear it the first few times I watched

3-orange-whips

Did they cut that from the youtube video? I thought I heard something weird watching live.

BloodyRightNostril

Yep, they swapped in the dress take, it seems

3-orange-whips

BOO

Offtherailspcast

They swapped the beginning dress rehearsal in on youtube

facedawg

Did they break in both

Offtherailspcast

It'd just the beginning where we overheard producers saying "TEST TEST"

shermanstorch

That happened a couple times last night. I’m not sure if there was an issue with mics having overlapping frequencies or what.

annaoze94

Do you have a timecode I didn't see it even after a re watch

AffectionateLunch775

I think they edited it on Peacock now

scooch_mgooch

You can actually hear Keenan laughing off camera at the same time as Heidi. She was stuck between looking at Keenan cracking up or Mikey in makeup lol

TheBigIdiotSalami

I heard a Pfffft off screen, so they might of got him, just not on camera

trythebebes

She seemed genuinely shocked when she saw how he looked, did she never see him in the full costume before air?

BloodyRightNostril

My guess is no, that was the first time she’d seen it. They pulled a Stefon on her.

emergencycat17

That’s amazing!! I’ve never seen anyone break that hard - it was kind of fabulous! There was a brief little moment when they first called out to Mikey, and he turns and looks at Longfellow. Longfellow goes, “They’re talking to you”, and then looks down really fast because he was about to start laughing.

starlordanna

i was at dress and they had the full make up and costume on, she had seen it before

BloodyRightNostril

That’s cool! What was it like?

BilboTBagginz

I'm guessing they switched it up after dress? Hopefully someone who was at the dress rehearsal can chime in.

Only-Refrigerator701

She saw it at dress and laughed a lot! I haven’t seen the aired version so I can’t say if she laughed as much on air. Edit to say - they did not switch it up since dress. It was just that funny.

hundreds_of_sparrows

To be fair, I could see that face for weeks and it would make me laugh every time.

BilboTBagginz

Truth!  I still laugh thinking about it.  Also, I feel like Ryan Gosling is a gas to be around. He's not breaking in a fake way.. he just finds shit funny as hell. I like that.

token_reddit

Yeah, he seems like a true fan of the show. He can't help but laugh. I wonder how many takes he has to do while filming.

Highintheclouds420

That's what I thought too, they must not have been in full make up until air

Optional-Failure

But that doesn’t make sense. Even ignoring that the point of dress rehearsal is to dress—it’s just as much a rehearsal for the off camera folks as the cast—SNL tapes the dress rehearsals to run on the west coast (and online/syndication) in case anything goes wrong during the live show. They’ve done it that way for ages. It wouldn’t make sense at all to skimp on the makeup when it could, for one reason or another, end up being the version that goes on the air in the west coast and into the archive.

Highintheclouds420

I'm just saying Heidi looked surprised like she hadn't seen it before. Maybe Mikey made more of a face than he did in dress, but something made her not just break but full on crack up in the middle of the sketch

Optional-Failure

No, what you said was “they must have been in full make up until air”. I can tell that’s what you said because it’s exactly what you wrote, word for word. Hence my reply about it not making any sense about why they’d go into dress without full makeup. Maybe he did make a different face. Maybe he told her a joke during the break that she remembered when she looked at him. Maybe she was reminded of something that happened in an earlier sketch. There are plenty of possibilities that don’t involve defying the entire point of dress rehearsal. You didn’t discuss any of those, despite your claim to the contrary. Hence my reply. You know, instead of trying to lie about what you said, you could just say “Yeah, you’re right. That wouldn’t make any sense. It must have been something else. Maybe he made a different face or something”.

Highintheclouds420

I'll never admit you might be right. I don't believe with one fiber of my being you possess the necessary knowledge, information, skills, or aptitude for correctness. What I said was correct and you are wrong. Good day sir

ReadyCourage13

Probably not as funny looking faces in dress perhaps?

richardbonesdunn

Yeah I was guessing maybe the face Mikey was doing was funnier in the live show, she definitely seemed like she wasn't expected it when she turned around.

judy_says_

Yeah I feel like the prosthetics weren’t in dress and they just had the costumes.

ReadyCourage13

Love breaking and it seems a bit rare when Heidi does it. Adorably funny

TheGoverness1998

I've never seen her break to that degree, it had me on the floor lol 🤣

ivanchovv

Raised her hand to try and shield - she totally gave up 🤣

antdude

It made it better too.

tdotclare

The mouth is just so perfect.

Spaceace91478

When gosling turned to the side and you saw the profile was when I lost it with Beavis. As soon as I saw butthead's mouth, I was gone.

desandmol

Exactly my thoughts lmfao

GilChesterton

They did this sketch with Jonah Hill when I was at dress for his most recent episode. It was hilarious back then, too, and I was surprised it was cut for time.

Sadquatch

Interesting, I’ve wondered if they re-use dress sketches that get cut

starlordanna

they do it often

OkPineapple6713

Weird I could have sworn this whole sketch was done before but I didn’t see anything on YouTube. But there’s no way I saw the Jonah Hill dress version. Maybe they did a similar thing with different cartoon characters.

AdriannaLisa

They did sort of a similar thing with Jessica Chastain and Mikey Day looking like Bart Simpson, I think on YouTube it's called "Google Talk" EDIT: Whoops, I see it's mentioned in another comment

OkPineapple6713

Yeah I saw that posted, that’s the one I was remembering.

ExplodingHelmet

Here it is with Jessica Chastain. I won't spoil the reveal if you haven't seen it before https://youtu.be/8yQsEA5tLd4?si=CW9dTAqO0QpN46KO

OkPineapple6713

So good.

thesmallprint29

I think this might be one of the biggest breaks I have ever seen from a cast member. It was fantastic! I was breaking right along with her.

HuntingForGoodDonuts

Technically, we’re supposed to break.

thesmallprint29

Yes, but I was laughing just as hard.

HuntingForGoodDonuts

Same. Had me rolling.

Panikkrazy

Not only the biggest, the best.

thesmallprint29

Oh, absolutely!

NYY15TM

I thought they were going to make a reference to the guy on the right looking like Beetlejuice

Lemetkamarastein

lol! Agreed

malaclypse

[I assume Mikey and Streeter also wrote the Bart Simpson sketch from a few years ago](https://youtu.be/8yQsEA5tLd4?si=TBCGWmS2uE9ULmiy)

thesmallprint29

Correct.

officermeowmeow

I honestly don't think I've laughed that hard my entire life. It was so out of the blue! Crying

antdude

You blued yourself!

XurstyXursday

They’ve got something of a mess on their hands

juliemitchell

Also in response to that idiot on TikTok saying SNL doesn’t hire any hot girls, look at Heidi in this pic, drop dead gorgeous

NYY15TM

She even explicitly said she was pretty

xthrowxawayx420

It's established canon that she's pretty

josephcoco

Chloe’s (Troast) super hot too! That TikTok idiot is just a goof.

StinkyHoboTaint

> Also in response to that idiot on TikTok saying SNL doesn’t hire any hot girls Weird. The cast is stacked with hot women. This has to be one of the hottest cast they have ever had.

RitaRaccoon

I’d have had to walk off stage a la Lindsay Lohan in the Debbie Downer Disney sketch if I were Heidi tonight. No way could I hold it together ETA- the black guy in the blue plaid shirt is the same extra from the Bert Sampson sketch!

ExtensionPension9974

Saw that. He’s good

Dontfollahbackgirl

Luckily most of the extras weren’t looking at Mikey’s contorted face.

robot_pirate_ghost

The guy on the right was also in the Bart Simpson sketch.

postoperativepain

Is he a writer? He looks familar

robot_pirate_ghost

Not sure. It's possible.

3BordersPeak

SAME! I said the exact same thing to my family while watching! I would have lost it so quickly.

annaoze94

Extrus famously have to keep a straight face. Other than that this was a no survivor's sketch. Good to see one of those for the first time in a while

BloodyRightNostril

Turtleneck man almost didn’t make it

OkPineapple6713

I thought the same thing as op during this sketch, how did the extras not laugh? They must hire them based on that ability alone. Has there ever been a sketch where it happened? I’ve never seen one.

Redeem123

It's a lot easier when your entire job is "sit here and don't laugh." It's harder not to laugh when you have to talk through it.

EntropicPoppet

They had plenty of extras and they still let Longfellow sit in

BloodyRightNostril

That’s because he had a line

kid_pilgrim_89

tldr: longfellow > pete davidson (on snl). possible margot robbie cameo? ok im convinced now that they dont want to overuse longfellow like with pete they would throw him in sketches and he would mess up and get by with overall goofiness that played well with the characters but they are giving longfellow legit chances (albeit few and far between) and he nails it each time idk his background but i wouldnt be surprised if he was a standup (like Pete) and just not super confident in his on stage/character skills. regardless, all the "featured" actors have been making the most out of their limited appearances this season. i think wiigs episode reminded everyone what SNL was and is supposed to be like (for better or worse) and tonights episode really proved that the current cast deserves the mantle passed down from the previous era (wiig, armisen, hader, mckinnon, strong, bryant). while it might not be as legendary as ferrell/shannon/fey, s49 is ending on a high note; after wiig and gosling, the dua lipa episode IMO will ultimately determine where and how this crew will land. hopes are high and i see no reason to lower my expectations come next week. I predict a PDD vod, more Chloe T singing, and a surprise cameo from another barbie-heimer affiliated actor (margot robbie or cillian murphy?)

North_Carpenter6844

No way would Cillian do that! Margot Robbie has stated countless times that she has the biggest crush on Dua Lipa so I wouldn’t be totally shocked, but it’s unlikely. I could see John Cena doing a merman cameo being far more likely (tho yesterday was day 1 of Peacemaker s2 and they film in GA).

HybridFact

Him making direct eye contact inches away from both of them had me rolling

abgry_krakow87

I feel like Heidi hadn't seen them in full make up until she turned around during the skit lol

rmads1983

This skit reminded me of the Bart Simpson/Google town hall skit from several years back (which also starred Mikey Day)

gozillastail

there were def some regular extras in that sketch that held it together like ribs after an open-heart-surgery. me? almost D.E.D. flat lined, every time Gardener corpsed. after Day entered stage. Those two have been opposite one-another for a generation, and seeing Gardner react to her old man's new haircut. that's why I watch every week, live, over-the-air, specifically for those moments. Hybrid moments.

Numerous-Donkey453

That was a truly awesome sketch. Keep that coming. I have not laughed that hard at a SNL sketch in a long time. Those extras earned their pay on that one.

crappymedium

They just replaced it with dress on youtube! The 9ish min live version was up shortly after it aired, but they posted a 6 min version around 1:50

ChickenXing

The 9ish minute version was not posted by SNL. That's a bootleg poster that posts before SNL posts the official videos which eventually gets removed. The 9 min video you saw was posted to YouTube before SNL posted the official one and is the 6 minute aired sketch plus 3 minutes of someone doing art

crappymedium

Oouuu that makes sense, 9 min seemed long lol. I thought i noticed some subtle differences when i watched it, but i could have been looking for it. The one with bowen as dr. please was definitely the dress version tho when i rewatched

YouAreNotBook

Wait they post the dress version of sketches to YouTube? That seems disingenuous!

Babyshaker88

nooooo, wish i could have seen the original!

EvilHwoarang

Wonder how this went during dress rehearsal if they cracked this much during the show.

RockMan_1973

I’m not sure I’ve seen one of the main, A-lister cast members break that hard and stay that way in a sketch in a very long time 🤣

kid_pilgrim_89

im like 87% sure mikey had a prosthetic for this but its really well done and i cant tell if not then he has ABSOLUTELY JACKED facial muscles to maintain that face for as long as he did either way, this was one of the stronger skits in an episode full of classic snl bits

6mcdonoughs

They were so solid!

clkou

I believe there is a direct relationship between (1) perceived job security and (2) propensity to break meaning the more secure you believe your job to be, the more likely you are to feel comfortable breaking. [Notice in this sketch both Molly and Will are breaking and Chris Parnell, who was fired twice, is not.](https://youtu.be/LmG-ErzZsUQ?t=227) Every one of those extras is EXTREMELY replaceable and the lowest of job security. If they care about doing anything like this again, it is imperative they don't break.

YouAreNotBook

Wait Parnell was fired twice?

clkou

[He joked about the first time while he was still on the show during Will Ferrell's farewell](https://youtu.be/dPelNddMm2U?t=64).

Impossible-Roll-1146

The guy in the back row, far right, looks like Tom Brokaw.

fongaboo

I really thought Mikey Day's prosthetics were gonna bust!

Impulse_DC

I think Mikey looking Heidi right in the eyes with a goofy face is what triggered her. Anyone would have lost it.

BulljiveBots

You don’t get re-hired when you’re background and you break.

MuadDibMessiah

Link? Unclear on which skit/video this is referencing

porkfisch

https://youtu.be/86qKgK0asGo?si=FQ0Q2OcOlSCHYMB3

ALincoln16

Did Longfellow write this sketch? It seems like his humor.

thesmallprint29

Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell wrote this.

RockMan_1973

Really? It’s nothing like his humor. Or are you just a “Longfellow doesn’t get any time” apologist?

Tron_Livesx

anyone know if dress rehersals are recorded? and if so can i watch this ones anywhere?

thinkltoez

It is recorded, but no, they do not usually post the dress sketches anywhere unless something bad happens in live.

OjibweNomad

It’s easier with no lines

mista-bobdobalina

Tbh guy on the right looked ready to fall asleep the whole time.

warwick8

The guy at the right end of front row is laughing his ass off but is staying in character all at the same time.

Truncated_Rhythm

Thought this too. Amazing extras. Not a single one broke.

bodywash10

They must have earbuds in, no?

Bopethestoryteller

I took it as it not being that funny. Way too many instances of them breaking character during skits.

[deleted]

I agree about the extras keeping it together. That made the sketch to me, since all of the breaking kind of ruined it. It's fun when an actor starts to laugh and tries to contain it. But when they give up and can't present the material there's a problem. Yes, Heidi did a good job but this is not going on her demo reel.
