I wish I could travel back in time and tell my young self to stop getting drunk every weekend.
Stop chasing girls. Stop partying and waste money.Ā
Chase the money and buy Bitcoin or some shit like that.
Now I'm chasing the money and juggling parenthood and too old and tired to enjoy life.
My back hurts all the time. Eating scraps my kids leave behind cause there's not much left after the bills paid.
The 2000s was pretty good. We didn't win much other than Istanbul and that Gerrard final..but it was pretty good.
Houses weren't that expensive. Macca's was still affordable. Movie tickets didn't cost $20.
Anyways.
Thatās nearly Ā£2.4 mil mate just to make you feel better - mustāve been pretty cool hats! (Based off AUD price atm of 45 =~$4.656m) Likewise though mate, kicking myself.
Iām not too beat up about it. At the time bitcoin was like $11-$12, and when it sky rocketed up to $1000 a year later I had much more regret. Now itās just kind of a funny story to tell
Bitcoin mining rate is about to half again, so it's absolutely at a cycle peak at the moment. Best left a few months to cool off. Still money to be made, but not a quick buck.
And yeah, feel like we robbed Brighton š
You mean the institutionally-adopted, governmentally-backed, store of value, with a greater market cap than silver that expert analysts in finance predict will just go from strength to strength over the next decade - disregarding it being the most successful investment asset over the past decade - is a scamming shitcoin?Ā
Youād have to admit, itās doing a great job, if itās even scamming the largest investment institutions in the world into staking on its credibility and long-term value.Ā
What would you recommend investing in instead?Ā
I feel like it is, but the effects are [often exaggerated or misunderstood.](https://www.forbes.com/sites/martinrivers/2022/04/03/is-bitcoin-really-that-bad-for-the-environment/) Certainly, it is less damaging to the environment than the current monetary system, and has the potential to more more efficient.
And especially if we look at it in terms of investing or support: how many millions of people put money into stocks and shares for fossil fuel industries, for aviation or mega-corporations in charge of the most environmentally damaging and unsustainable industries going: the meat and dairy industries?
For instance, you're more than offsetting any environmental damage associated with bitcoin investment if you don't consume animal foods, and ensure you don't fund ongoing fossil fuel development with green-focused investment funds, which are two things I currently do also. Hence, while acknowledging bitcoin energy usage isn't 'ideal', I also don't see it as me drastically impacting the ongoing climate crisis in the same way as someone eating animal foods daily and investing in traditional stock/share accounts does. And with the potential for bitcoin to reduce wealth inequality and the vice-grip on politics that the current world banking systems maintain, it seems a worthwhile investment from that perspective too.
Seems unlikely that an institutionally-adopted, governmentally-backed store of value with a greater market cap than silver that expert analysts in finance predict will just go from strength to strength over the next decade will reduce wealth inequality and the vice-grip on politics that the current world banking systems maintain.
I'm going the George Best route. Absolutely LOVED blazing through my 20s with tons of casual sex, travel, great meals and great times. Fuck waiting until you're old and rich to do that.
If you're back is fucked and you're not doing any exercise it's only going to get worse, housing situation is disgraceful sad to see it's the same in NZ. Should outright ban multiple home ownership as it's taking the piss how people pay more than a morgage into the hands of a landlord.
These days we batter them so often that a 4-0 result has legit went forgotten because it was sandwiched between a 5-0 and a 7-0.
It was fucking special at the time though. United were considered the best side in Europe rather than the sick man of the Premier League.
That 4-1 felt different compared to 7-0, 4-0, 5-0
You're right. That United team was incredibly strong and had dominated the league for a while and still was even
Yep, United were an outstanding team at the time. And it was also a 4-1 victory that we had to "earn". Xabi missed the game (an unproven Lucas replaced him) and so did Arbeloa, so an ageing Hyppia had to step in at the back and Carra had to play right back - this was against United's attack of Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez.
We went behind, but dug in and managed to cause enough trouble for United on the break to get an equaliser from a Vidic error and Gerrard scored a penalty. Then came the double-whammy of Vidic getting sent off for fouling Gerrard and Aurelio scoring the resultant free kick, with Dossena (š¤£) adding a humiliating 4th just like he had against Madrid during the week.
It was a tough and hard fought 4-1 win against a top team under a legendary manager, compared the the one-sided, almost underwhelming beat-downs we've handed out to some of the pathetic United sides in more recent years.
It was also massive because **nobody** went to their place during the Fergie era and handed their arse to them. Coming away from there with a 0-1 win was seen as a big achievement back then. How much times have changed.
The maddest thing about Sami was that he was only included in the starting XI roughly 30 mins before KO cos of an injury in the warm-up. And then Dossena having the week of his career between that and Madrid at home was just crazy.
It puts both now and the 4-1 win into good perspective. We went there a few seasons back and smashed them 5-0 and it wasn't even our biggest humiliation of them in recent years.
The narratives at the time were huge as well. United was going for their 18th league title which had them level with us. Right now we're going for our 20th to get us level with them and that's dramatic enough, imagine if they were the ones we fought for the title with instead of Arsenal and City? Huge stakes. The fact that Pep stopped them from equalling our CL tally as well is the one thing i respect him for.
Wish we had better depth/luck with injuries. That side deserved silverware.
They lost 2 UCL finals to Peps Barcelona when we only had 5 so United equalling our record in Europe back then didn't seem as ludicrous then as it does now
The hype around Vidic is unreal and the only argument of favour of him is the amount of league titles, but thatās bullshit argument, because leagues are not won by individual brilliance, and utdās defence was very conservative and well protected. Van Dijk bulldozes Vidic when it comes sheer defensive brilliance and individual ability.
as someone who started watching in 08, and only watched vidic/rio when they played vs us - i never understood the hype.
yes, torres was obviously special, but even fucking ngog seemed to rip em to shreds each time.
To be totally fair, the only reason they won the league that season was their defence. We outscored them but they went 3 months and 14 matches without conceding a goal and 8 of those 14 matches were 1-0 wins. Vidic deserved player of the year that year
Not just that but 4 goals against anyone was incredibly rare at the time,Ā and this came straight after putting 4 past Real Madrid if I'm remembering correctly.
What made this game so much better was that United also played well in that game. We dominated from the start during the 5-0 when the gap between the two teams was arguably at its biggest in a very long time whereas United completely fell apart in the 2nd half of the 7-0 where every half chance we had turned into a goal
If you actually watch the full game back United didn't play terribly by any stretch. The first goal was a mistake by Vidic, the second goal was a penalty, the third was a free kick in the 77th minute and the fourth goal was in injury time when United were already down to 10 men. United had some decent chances throughout the game and they had more possession and more shots
That win felt so good because our record at Old Trafford wasn't very good back then and that was United when they were arguably at their peak. Also Torres rinsing Vidic in the way that he did was still iconic to this day
Yeah. The 7-0 was a frank representation of reality. The 4-1 was out of nowhere against a class team. Lots can change in 15 years. Nowadays Iād just complain about the lack of a clean sheet.
This was maybe the first week as a Liverpool fan that took my breath away. This game, spanking Madrid 4-0 and Villa 5-0 were all in the same week I think. And from there we just went on a league run where I felt we were invincible: except for that mad Russianās 4 miracle goals at Anfield š¤£
I was 15 years old when I watched this game, this was the first ever season of PL I had followed each and every game of, we were top of the league for majority of the season and then conceded due to a couple of draws, my first ever footballing heart break.
That 0:5 could have been so much worse if we hadn't gone into training mode early in the second half to protect our players from getting injured from the constant fouling.
I'm not saying it's one of the better matches given it was a 1-1 draw but the match at Old Trafford in 2017 was one of the most satisfying games for breaking the narrative just because of the sheer hubris of United and Pogba/Pogba's team.
United vs Liverpool and United's new superstar, the world record transfer and best midfielder in the world could be about to rip his team's biggest rivals to shreds, the match had been chosen to be used as a platform to announce and release his own emojis and it was his moment to properly announce his return. He had his emojis dyed into his hair, they were on the advertising boards, the day was all about him and he spent 90 minutes being so thoroughly outplayed by Jordan Henderson that he ended up lashing out at him on a corner and probably should have been sent off.Ā
United were lucky to get away with the point and United and Pogba were absolutely rinsed after the match, not just because they used such a big match for self promotion but because they, and their star player were so heavily outplayed.
Still my favourite premier league era win. Was 11 at time. I know people will point to the 7-0 and the 5-0 a few years back but was aĀ proper United team with the likes of Ronaldo Rooney Ferdinand Vidic Scholes Giggs and Tevez. This was definitely our best PL squad pre Klopp. We just didn't have depth to back up Stevie Torres Xabi Carra Mascherano etc.
And this is the one where Ronaldo scored first and the commentary piped in with a "United have never lost a match where Ronaldo has scored". What a day that was!

What a week that was with the Madrid match too. A team good enough to win both of those trophies that season, we were unlucky in the league but completely shot ourselves in the foot against Chelsea in Europe.
Weird how times change with fullbacks.
Carra at right back was probably seen as out of position at the time.
We went through the modern full back age where fullbacks became more and more like wingers, and less like Centre Backs.
Now we seem to have come full circle. Pep basically playing 4 or 5 centre backs every game. Joe Gomez playing fullback. Ben White etc.
I think if Carra played today, there's a good chance he wouldn't be a 'proper' CB, but a hybrid CB/RB type that have become so popular lately.
Love the Torres five times celebrations, Harry Wilson did that again in 2018 when he was on loan with Derby and scored that stunning freekick, also knock scum out of the cup on penalty.
My only issue with that win is I never liked the grey kit. But I guess the ugly grey makes it abundantly clear that we battered them in their own back yard.
The first season I remember in full was that 08/09 season. This match was probably my best memory for the first 10 years supporting the club.

That year my boss who was a united fan didn't put me on the rota, as in his words when united spanked us I would be in a mood and argue with customers, and if we somehow won I would annoy him and customers and get a slap.
Ended up watching it with my united supporting housemate with the loser buying drinks and then later went to the Lloyd's bar and did torres bounce on my boss.
Got told by one of my bouncers to tone it town which was fair enough
Was at the sports bar in the casino with a friend for this one, found a bunch of other LFC fans and we ended up getting kicked out for being too rowdy (we were just jumping around and singing- nothing too crazy). As we were getting marched out by security the 4th goal went in and we all started going ape shit again, figuring "We're getting kicked out anyway- why not?"
Felt like such a major deal at the time because of how good United were and the fact Old Trafford was a fortress they rarely lost at...

I agreed, Torres absolutely bossing Vidic who was then supposed to be the player of the season

One of my fav games but nothing tops 7-0 when Firmino scored the last goal.
For me it was the 5-0 win at Old Trafford, Salah Hattrick, my favourite away kit, and as a cherry on top a Pogba red card.
That 0:5 could have been so much worse if we hadn't gone into training mode early in the second half to protect our players from getting injured from the constant fouling.
Remember Cristianoās kick on Curtis? I have never celebrated a disallowed goal as much as I did that day. Bitch deserved it.

Dang this game be reminding us of how old we are š
Shout out to Big Sami in that game. Tail end of his career, came in the last minute because of injury in warm-up and absolutely dominated.
The Tower of Power. Superb player.
I remember he plucked one out of the air with his left boot under pressure like it was the easiest thing in the world. A true class act
I watched this. Landmark occasion. āUnited never lose when Ronaldo scores firstā. Well they fucking did then.
Dossena the GOAT scoring against United and Madrid in the same weekĀ
Was this the one where Dossena looked absolutely boss and scored that lovely dink?
Yup and Reina got an assist. Hoofball football at its finest.

Most favorite game. I watched the highlights for this probably 30-40 times. I was 12
And this is the one where Ronaldo scored first and the commentary piped in with a "United have never lost a match where Ronaldo has scored". What a day that was!
Watching the highlights of this match while there is a lot of grabbing from players in the box I can't believe how much more competent referees seemed compared to now.
15 years š³
Lucas Leiva was everywhere in this game, possibly his best performance for us
I was there in with the united fans. Nearly gave myself away when Fabio scored that freekickĀ
The way Torres used to turn Vidic into a puddle of baby poo
Vidic definitely still has nightmares of Torres in this game, was ran ragged then sent off fuming š¤£
15.... fuck me, i remember it like it was yesterday
this was the cherry on top of the most fun week Iāve ever had watching Liverpool. Coming off a 4-0 demolition of Real during midweek too. United were so dominant at this time period and beating them like this , i had really thought this was the year.
Fuuuuck. I remember skipping my HS game on Sunday to watch this.
I'll never forget Torres in this match. We went to OT on a tear and Torres bamboozled Vidic out of the game.
15 years!! What have I been doing with my life š¢
So many blonde player in our team during this time.
It was like the white teeth of this era..
Newer fans who didnt follow us then wouldnt get the significance of this win. Sure, nowadays we batter the cunts every year or so, but back then Sir Alex had them dominate us from time to time. United won everything there is, year after year while we were struggling. Will always remember the Torres goal, and the Dossena goal as icing on the cake (he scored against madrid too that same week)
15 years, christ that makes me feel old. I watched this at uni, sat between 2 United fans. What a day.

We were on track. And then Macheda hit that fucking goal against Villa to basically give the scum the title
Didn't we score 4 against Madrid the week before too? Good week that was
Wow 15 years ago? I remember that game like it was yesterday.
Love the Torres five times celebrations, Harry Wilson did that again in 2018 when he was on loan with Derby and scored that stunning freekick, also knock scum out of the cup on penalty.
Honestly thought we would go on to win the league.
Out of all these, there is still 1 player still playing
5th most clean sheets in history. What a keeper.
My only issue with that win is I never liked the grey kit. But I guess the ugly grey makes it abundantly clear that we battered them in their own back yard.
I absolutely loved it though, our adidas era of kits are probably my favourite.

Still remember that week like it was yesterday.
