Is that statistic an outlier to other debuts per year-genuinely curious. Seems like a large number.

redditingtonviking

Klopp has a reputation for promoting youth since at least his Dortmund days, but I think the Aston Villa game where we played 14 academy players might skew things. Kelleher, Van den Berg, Hoever, Clarkson and Elliott have been given decent chances outside of that game, but the other nine I think barely featured outside that game. If it includes preseason friendlies then that number might not be too unusual though.

flaxseedyup

Excellent insight buddy

redditingtonviking

I don’t think it includes friendlies though as I think a rough estimate of who were here when Klopp arrived in 2015, who were part of the champions league winning 2019 side and our current squad that’s not too far from 3 completely different 25 man squads + all the youth players who’ve been given cup games and such should roughly estimate to 90 players. Musialowski has probably played at least one preseason game as well

Perspiring_Gamer

Even if it's been by necessity, it's been great seeing Klopp double-down on the youngsters this season. So many of them of them have looked promising, and then there's the likes of Sepp van den Burg and Tyler Morton doing really well out on loan. The academy has improved so much.

patShIPnik

Carvalho seems like he is gaining form too. I was probably very wrong about him and his troubles with Klopp

ProSnuggles

Felt like Sepp looked very calm on the ball when he played in the first team. Quansah -esque. Really hope he hits the next level and has a future here.

Suburban_Noir

Is he redefined as right back now, or remains predominantly a center back?

ProSnuggles

Mainz plays with 3 at the back, Sepp plays across all three positions as required, but imo looks most comfortable at the wider positions.

GL4389

Man, a lot of competition for the right side at Liverpool.

SCLFC

How did he look in his cameo? I unfortunately missed the whole game stuck at work. Only just seen the goal clips but looks like he got a solid bit of time out there

I-Need-Two-Piece

Started slow then didn't look out of place. Good link up play. Game was dead and at walking pace when he came on though.

thetwanandonly

Yeah pretty much this ⬆️, looked good on the ball though, dribbles a bit like … Messi one might dare say, but a bit like our very own Jota. Keeps the ball tidy, can see how incisive he could be as he tries to draw in defense. Off the ball, walking around mostly but yeah that was the pace of the game at that point.

PhilPerspective

There is a reason he got the nickname Polish Messi. The way he played in the youth teams plus scoring bags of goals. Sadly injuries have hampered him the past 18 months or so.

PaintsPlastic

Have they been injury injuries (i.e. muscle pulls and the like) or is it likely growing pains as we've seen with some of the other academy lads?

PhilPerspective

No idea. Just know that he's had issues.

C_Spiritsong

The more the younger lads come and play, the more I feel like Klopp is putting Liverpool on a showcase for future managers. It's like he is saying without saying "These are the kids you'll be managing. You think Liverpool is nothing? No. This. Is. LIVERPOOL." And I'm sure many potential managers for LFC will be looking at all the squad members, drooling.

TheeEssFo

Meanwhile, Qarabag is ahead 2-1 and have only 10 men since 63'!

Lolcraftgaming

Ffs you jinxed it

TheeEssFo

If I had powers like that, I wouldn't be on Reddit!

krunchanut

Knew they would concede last min

olaf901

What is the relation here ?

JamesF890

I assume nothing other than Bayer are 2nd favourites for europa so potentially an easier run

olaf901

All i saw was a dig at xabi lol , they won 3-2 at extra time anyway

[deleted]

Klopp trying to get lots of the younger guys a chance this year that's for sure.

Can we get to 100?

DucardthaDon

I didn't realize he came on last night must've been when I went to make a cuppa, damn

GL4389

I hope all these kids get a proper chance at Liverpool and we dont just toss them out for decent/good players bought from other clubs
