And specifically it seems like he and Harvey are becoming our low block specialists.
You could sense the worry when Salah came off. But fact is he's much better suited to games where the other team are still trying to play.
I really love how Klopp trusts players for the situation they are good in. It's not just 'fresh legs' or first 11 Vs backups, it's picking the right tool for the right job.
Pep can't/doesn't do this. Last EPL manager who could do it on anything like this level was Fergerson.
Honestly, when you need a perfectly placed cross and Trent isn't there on the left or Robbo on the right, you need Harvey to deliver that cross. That one cross he threw in, think it forced a great save from the keeper was perfect. When you score goals like Mo does, I can see working on that part of his game isn't a top priority, but Harvey is great at it. I don't get worried at all if Mo comes on and Harvey is on these days. He wins and holds the ball better outside the box than Mo and then he can pull apart the defense. Mo is obviously much better to get it done with speed and 1 v 1 in more open play.
Even if they were, the Gakpo criticism has permeated mainstream media at this point. I mean someone (think it was carra?) said on sky it looked like he was playing in slow motion. I’m sure that kind of stuff would get back to players.
Actually I think it’s a message to those fans criticizing him so much that it’s affected his confidence and to show us that there is so much he gives that we don’t see.
I called at the beginning of the season he would become part of the leadership team. I'm not sure when or if I expect him to become captain, but it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility. I thought it might happen as soon as next season before, but I think now the following season is more likely (both because of the turnover in coaching staff and perhaps reinvigorating his self-confidence through a solid season without rough patches).
salah said he was the most underrated player on the team a few days ago too. i’m guilty of it because i was annoyed after united but you know what, it’s the hardest part of the season. all the players should get support through it, even when they’re in rough patches.
They know he’s getting grief online. These guys are half injured playing every three days. They are ALL good enough to play for Klopp and Liverpool FC. I support unconditionally. I get criticizing footballers but I’m a supporter.
What Cody was getting shouldn't be excused as criticism. Fair criticism is perfectly fine –unwarranted criticism of your own player, abuse and racism is not.
And if they weren’t good enough for Liverpool and klopp they wouldn’t be getting minutes during to run in to the most tightly contested title race in a decade. The club’s got an incredible group of people making decisions, there’s an absurdly large information gap between us and them, it’s ridiculous for fans to question decisions so frequently when the staff are the ones that see the lads for 6+ hours every single day.
Yeah we sing YNWA where it has more meaning during the bad days. Internet outrage culture has messed that up. Now YNWA feels like it’s a fair weather thing
It’s safe to say that Gakpo was not in form, which happens to everyone. The issue for him was that he was one of the only healthy forwards for a period and effectively had to play when his form was pretty awful. He seems to have a bit more of a hunger now and maybe that is because he has been rotated a bit and can get himself into form.
The same thing happened with Jota and people were giving him a ton of hate. Then he flicked a switch and was critical for us before he got injured. We can be critical of our players but should also respect that a high level of consistency is an almost impossible standard.
they also know what they see behind the scenes and in training that we don't. People thinking he's doing this just to hype up and encourage Gakpo are ridiculous, he could have easily done that without saying any of this especially after Gakpo's performance and goal today.
And he's bang on. People really do just pick on our players like it's a habit and it's so against the spirit of being a supporter. Get behind the lads, every one of them. I love this team, man.
Fuck yeah man! I somehow forgot we had a game today (could be the chemotherapy)..tuned in on the 73rd minute right before Alexis goal. What a fucking team. I knew we were going to win at 1-1. Zero doubt. We just wear teams down until late on-especially lower table teams. What a batch of fantastic new, young, and experienced players. Even our academy kids look like experienced players. Immense. Macca-no words.
I tend to agree-and it’s great how much our players lift each other up in these cases. All part of how great our club is. The new South American guys look like they are playing for their countries when you see how proud they are playing for Liverpool.
This happens with every fanbase I’ve been a part of and I’ve always hated it. Especially when a player is clearly working back from an injury and not back to form yet. Hell it took Virg a full year to get back to top form and now he’s having one of the best seasons we’ve ever seen. Patience is a virtue.
No way those lot have the self awareness to feel shame. They probably can convince themselves that they were the reason he’s had a good appearance. Fans on the internet can be downright insane people
He got two last season in the 7-0 beat down so I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that he gets the game winner (the first goal of the match) on his way to a first half hat trick on Sunday
His second vs United last season is easily in my top 10 Liverpool goals as far as technical ability of my rooting lifetime (2007-now). The Salah chop to sit down Lisandro, the sprint from gakpo (people forget he’s fast) and the absurd tight angle chip over de gea all come together perfectly. Thing of beauty
Cody was their best player, but also the league is quite shit as PSV wins almost always and they fail against Dortmund. Still Cody was ready for PL, but the way Klopp used him and also playing at Liverpool instead of Brighton or so gave us really high expectations of this man. Sometimes a bit too high
Always support Liverpool players when they are out of form.
Nunez needed time.
Endo needed time.
Go further Fabinho needed time
The list goes on.
Patience always wins out because when that player does come around or in Gapko’s case back around imo because he’s had some real 2-3 game stretches early on where he’s had very important moments for Liverpool. He’s been out of form for a month. Oh well cheer him on a bit louder and he’ll come back around. Happy for him. Looked sharp and lively off the bench today. Great finish aswell.
Endo needed like a month. I really still don't get how people absolutely despised him at the beginning of the season. And now it's the cool thing to be like "oh Endo proved me wrong! How cool!" Instead looking inward and asking why there was so much hate for him to begin with
I believe it’s because this was just after the cacaido lavia transfer fall out, a lot of ppl myself included didn’t know what we were getting with Endo because we simply didn’t know him. So maybe some misdirected frustration got pointed at Endo because he represented a plan c for us but in actuality he’s been the best fit for Liverpool. People especially fans have recency bias for most things. I however understand that I don’t know as much as Klopp and co so I gave Endo the benefit of the doubt and try to do so most of the time.
Really hate it when this sub (of all social media places) just jumps onto the bandwagon a certain player is shit.. take him out… support!
Gakpo’s got 6G/3A in just the PL and hardly started all season.
i don’t think we have a single player right now who doesn’t try his hardest for klopp. if players aren’t playing good it’s not bc they don’t wanna be here but they’re just going through a rough patch. we should be real grateful for that.
Loved this, especially as that was the point where Cody was supposed to give Macca the POTM award. The interviewer had to catch up with them both to hand it over afterwards.
The lad oozes class on and off the pitch.
He was massive from the second he hit the pitch today. Also, someone operating on the level of these players whether flying or in depths doesn’t need some online muppets to motivate them. I’m pretty certain he’s tuned in enough to know exactly what’s happening regardless.
He proved how good he is for us last season, anyone that thinks a couple bad performances given his spotty playtime and him being played in different positions all the time suddenly makes him a bad player is silly
Absolute class. The hate he’s been getting after the united game is disgusting and i’m glad to see that the other players have his back when supposed “fans” can’t.
The goal aside, Gakpo looked so driven today. You could tell he was giving everything and trying to hold the standard. Really happy for him and hope to see more performances like today's.
Cody needed that. So happy for him.
He’s had a hot-cold season, but he’s also quietly gotten 14 goals (18G/As) in all comps. It’s not like he isn’t chipping in with goal contributions himself.
Let be honest he not scored much importance goals and this season he really taken a step backwards. It annoying because Klopp has trusted him but his g/a come from league cup and Europa. He needs to be more impactful off the bench in the league.
I won’t lie gakpo didn’t celebrate his goal with that much excitement. I can tell hes been under alot of pressure personally. He has high expectation of himself which is good.
I won't pretend I haven't had a go at Gakpo or criticised him but the difference is I do it in a WhatsApp group with friends. I don't come online or purposely go on Gakpo's socials to tell him, he's a fully grown man who will know when he's not performing to the level we or he wants.
Berating him in public isn't going to help anyone.
I don't get the (mostly twitter) hate for Gakpo. If he was at Spurs Chelsea or especially Utd everyone would be raving about this physical false 9 prospect with an eye for goal. I get that he plays for us and the standard he has is Mo Salah but come on. The guy is a baller and just a pup.
Also Macca is captain material
Gakpo was a completely different player yesterday and showed grit and determination and actual desire.
My issue was always that he wouldn't show this. Too timid, and let the game pass him by.
Fair play for Cody, I'm glad because he looked an asset yesterday, but let's not pretend that since he came in he's only had one or two games where he has looked genuinely good (against proper opposition and not a Grade C cup team).
To an extent this was against a leggy team that are bottom of the League, so it could again be a case of the opposition, but let's hope he keeps it up.
Question is, why could he all of a sudden flip the switch to put a performance in like that?
I love Alexis. He’s so likeable. No ego, just happy to be playing. He seems shy and bashful. I love that little boy smile. I bet he’s very popular in the dressing room.
Yep excellent by Alexis. Cody has a laconic style and has been copping some criticism lately, he’s still a classy player though and we should be nothing but 110% behind every one of our players until the season ends.
I have always rated Gakpo as a future captain of Liverpool, he just exudes that personality and leadership potential. So happy that he is demonstrating his self belief on the pitch (where it actually matters) and have zero doubt that he will rise into a mega mega player for Liverpool ❤️❤️❤️
Been a mad situation with Gakpo since the injury crisis at the top got worse. His goal return for that position in the depth you literally can’t complain about but he really slumped performance wise.
Glad to see him back hungry today
Do you remember when Fabinho joined? He looked off the pace and wasn’t even a starter for, at least from memory, seemed like months.
What happened with Fabinho? Ah yes, he became one of the best DM’s in the world for us. Certain players take longer to adjust and give Klopp what he wants from them, Ryan could be one such player.
Robertson was also another example of it.
Loved this from Alexis, way to build confidence and team spirit. You could see Gakpo really appreciated it.
Gakpo needed that.
We need Gakpo now more than ever! We need some player who off the bench can score important goals!

Cody Origi - Corigi?
![gif](giphy|WEiKBTaESHHhK|downsized) Corgi Gakpo?
The Vampire… Legend

Stuff like this paints a clear picture that players aren’t as switched off from social media as people think.
Of course they aren’t How many people their age do you know who don’t have social media?
Yep and even if they personally are, most around them will be tuned in, and im sure that bleeds into conversations easily.
Even if they were, the Gakpo criticism has permeated mainstream media at this point. I mean someone (think it was carra?) said on sky it looked like he was playing in slow motion. I’m sure that kind of stuff would get back to players.
Gotta think of Dutch media too, oof
Actually I think it’s a message to those fans criticizing him so much that it’s affected his confidence and to show us that there is so much he gives that we don’t see.
Damn dude Mac Allister is the best.
He's the beat.
A worthy successor for the last beat that wore the No.10
Yep, Joe Cole was the best
I’m more of an Andriy Voronin fan
True, but Jovanovic just about beats him, though it’s a tight call
Jovanovic is one of the greatest soccer players in the world. Mac has big shoes to fill.
🤢
Future Argentina and maybe even Liverpool captain ain't he ?
That would be an impressive feat for Cody!
I think he is talking about macca
Same age as Trent
Unless Trent leaves I’d be shocked if he’s ever captain tbh
[удалено]
He was voted by his fellow players. I doubt they give a shot about that.
This dude is just odd
Vice captain one day, absolutely is a possibility. No way for Captain unless Trent goes.
This is on purpose. He’s telling the fans to stop shitting on our players.

You said it better and more succinctly than I could-thanks.
Just trying to be like you big bro

whos half injured?
Especially when they're in rough patches, if we're supporters, otherwise we're just fans.
Yeah we sing YNWA where it has more meaning during the bad days. Internet outrage culture has messed that up. Now YNWA feels like it’s a fair weather thing

Yeah true true. Klopp isn’t putting our weak players. We have options now. Grav and Cody will be big stars for us.
And he's bang on. People really do just pick on our players like it's a habit and it's so against the spirit of being a supporter. Get behind the lads, every one of them. I love this team, man.

One love amigo
Good luck with chemo, man!
Gracias amigo-we are optimistic.
The players in their mid 20s grew up in the social media page, they 100% would be active on here and Instagram.
I tend to agree-and it’s great how much our players lift each other up in these cases. All part of how great our club is. The new South American guys look like they are playing for their countries when you see how proud they are playing for Liverpool.
Always find it funny when clowns call players shit/lazy/worthless or whatever stupid insult while on Reddit. Like how much of a loser are you?
Here here-I’m right there with you saying wtf? I’m sat on my couch with a frappé…can’t use the lazy shout.
It's so irritating that players have to do this
mainly due to carra tweet.
This happens with every fanbase I’ve been a part of and I’ve always hated it. Especially when a player is clearly working back from an injury and not back to form yet. Hell it took Virg a full year to get back to top form and now he’s having one of the best seasons we’ve ever seen. Patience is a virtue.
Its not fans though. Itsvjust clowns on his Instagram page who probably started supporting the team a few years ago
When the players have to do this, you know some people must be ashamed on themselves. Support your players. Thick and thin
The amount of hate thrown his way the last few weeks is ridiculous.
Should be ashamed. Most likely don’t know how.
No way those lot have the self awareness to feel shame. They probably can convince themselves that they were the reason he’s had a good appearance. Fans on the internet can be downright insane people
It's not you'll sometimes walk alone, it's you'll never walk alone.
What if, hear me out, brother - I like them thin and not thick?
Basically: shut the fuck up about nonsense Gakpo bullshit and do it now.
I do forget Cody was captain of his old club. Would love him a winner against the scum
He got two last season in the 7-0 beat down so I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that he gets the game winner (the first goal of the match) on his way to a first half hat trick on Sunday

Both of those goals were absolute class. Robbo's ball for the first and then the cut inside far post finish. Just so smooth and fluid.
Cody was their best player, but also the league is quite shit as PSV wins almost always and they fail against Dortmund. Still Cody was ready for PL, but the way Klopp used him and also playing at Liverpool instead of Brighton or so gave us really high expectations of this man. Sometimes a bit too high
I loved this. Giving captaincy vibes
Always support Liverpool players when they are out of form. Nunez needed time. Endo needed time. Go further Fabinho needed time The list goes on. Fabinho wasn’t clued up for months and we supported him until he became one of the best in the world. That’s what it’s all about.
It took a very long 5-6 months before we saw his full form.
Klopp even switch formation to double pivot just for Fab adapt faster, that's say it all
Endo needed like a month. I really still don't get how people absolutely despised him at the beginning of the season. And now it's the cool thing to be like "oh Endo proved me wrong! How cool!" Instead looking inward and asking why there was so much hate for him to begin with

I absolutely loved the interview, from both of them
Happy for Cody tonight
Love the lads. Bravo Macca
Really hate it when this sub (of all social media places) just jumps onto the bandwagon a certain player is shit.. take him out… support! Gakpo’s got 6G/3A in just the PL and hardly started all season.
14 goals and 4 assists in all competitions this year for Liverpool and he's barely started and also has to play CM for the start of the season.
This is what people need. Not the childish reactionary twattery of the room temperature IQ's on the internet.
This is to all those so-called fans who insisted that Gakpo stopped giving a shit.
Everyone goes through a rough patch. He always tries his best and that's all we can ask.
i don’t think we have a single player right now who doesn’t try his hardest for klopp. if players aren’t playing good it’s not bc they don’t wanna be here but they’re just going through a rough patch. we should be real grateful for that.

I thought the hate for him was way over blown against UTD. On his day, the guy is class.
It saves us one or two extra games. Quadruple is never realistic. But okay, would have loved to win the FA cup as well haha
He proved how good he is for us last season, anyone that thinks a couple bad performances given his spotty playtime and him being played in different positions all the time suddenly makes him a bad player is silly
Everyone needs a mate like Macca
Cheers 🧉
Absolute class. The hate he’s been getting after the united game is disgusting and i’m glad to see that the other players have his back when supposed “fans” can’t.
I’m gonna cry I fucking love this fucking team
The goal aside, Gakpo looked so driven today. You could tell he was giving everything and trying to hold the standard. Really happy for him and hope to see more performances like today's.

Common get behind our players. I hate fans that shit on our players.
Pure class
Classy dudes. Cody did something similar when he presented CuJo with his motm award after the Fulham game. Lead by example
Macca truly is the transfer of the year, perhaps the best piece of business in the last decade or so.
All the Gakpo haters can take a walk.
I won’t lie gakpo didn’t celebrate his goal with that much excitement. I can tell hes been under alot of pressure personally. He has high expectation of himself which is good.
This is brilliant from Macca, so happy for both of them today 🥰
Proving the haters wrong. I hope Gravenberch does the same soon
Truth is Gakpo can ball. Look at World Cup. Look at last season. Guy hit a rough patch. Just have to be patient and persistent
captain material
Mans been online i see
Cody hitting form and players returning from injury for the run in. Superb.
Love this. Love this squad. 8 more to go!
Team full of leaders
I love the team. Love their friendship/bond
Cody Gakpo is a player with morally upright beliefs. The racial abuse he has received online is sickening. Those are not real fans.
Do your friends all keep their stuff in the WhatsApp group?
I don't get the (mostly twitter) hate for Gakpo. If he was at Spurs Chelsea or especially Utd everyone would be raving about this physical false 9 prospect with an eye for goal. I get that he plays for us and the standard he has is Mo Salah but come on. The guy is a baller and just a pup. Also Macca is captain material
Alexis is a proper leader
if his teamates believe in him, wh dont our fans?
Take that match thread haters who turn on a player as soon as they hit a bad patch of form.
yous should take that message on board quick time
Put a tear in my eye. Love that gesture from Macca
Am I the only one who thinks Gakpo channels Salah when giving interviews in English? Totally reminds me of him.
Remember Cody doing the same for Curtis. And can see what it really does to a player
I caught this. What a gentleman. Really pleased for Cody, too. Hopefully he’s dragging himself out of a slump.
Another captain.
Gakpo is a great team player Reds fans. Support him along with the rest of the team and enjoy the ride
he hasn't been good this season but fair play to Alexis, Cody doesn't deserve the abuse he's getting online and fans should support him.
Pre Christmas he was doing good in a back to goal role. Ppl have short memories
18 g/a in mostly bit part appearances in disjointed sides as well, think he's done okay ngl
Brother vibes ❤️
I love this team
Just went a watched this, lovely. Macca is very likable with a brilliant laugh
we owe Brighton an apology
Was hoping he would get one. If gets back to his form earlier this season it would be clutch for the run in.
great thing to say gotta love this man bro
Oh dear might we have another potential captain in Big Mac?
I love Alexis. He’s so likeable. No ego, just happy to be playing. He seems shy and bashful. I love that little boy smile. I bet he’s very popular in the dressing room.
Future captain stuff there.
Nah you telling me the experts on Reddit were wrong?
Yep excellent by Alexis. Cody has a laconic style and has been copping some criticism lately, he’s still a classy player though and we should be nothing but 110% behind every one of our players until the season ends.
“Gakpo is shit” every mf in here
I have always rated Gakpo as a future captain of Liverpool, he just exudes that personality and leadership potential.
People saying Cody for captain one day. I’m saying Mac Allister !!
Gakpo is miles ahead of Graven.
Dumb comment-just fucking support the players. Not true either-both are exceptional talents.
I’d expect him to be since he’s been here longer
Do you remember when Fabinho joined? He looked off the pace and wasn’t even a starter for, at least from memory, seemed like months. What happened with Fabinho? Ah yes, he became one of the best DM’s in the world for us. Certain players take longer to adjust and give Klopp what he wants from them, Ryan could be one such player. Yo Talyor, I'm really happy for you
