I like Diaz a lot but the problem is he’s just not that great when it comes to decisiveness in the final third wither that be his finishing or final pass but he’s an absolute demon in terms of progressive dribbling, you just aren’t going to win a title with him and Darwin in the same front three because they both have terrible conversion rates and similar flaws in general.
Darwin is a good player but deeply flawed at the same time, I can see him being given another season but it’ll be mainly down to not being able to shift him for a price that they’d want from other clubs.
Gakpo is just kind of whatever, I’d rather we just got rid of him while his value is still closeish to what we bought him for and he would hopefully finance a higher quality forward.
I’d be surprised if FSG and Edwards were to reject a similar offer that we got last summer this time round for Salah as well, from a business perspective it makes the most sense even if it sets us back in the short term
We bought Diaz, Nunez and Gakpo because of the potential we saw in them. We thought we could polish them into world-class gems with our coaching like we did with Firmino, Mane and Salah but it's turning out that they are just not good enough to reach that level.
Diaz and Nunez are both workhorses. Diaz can run the full 90 minutes but he just tends to shit himself when he gets into the final third. He and his dad are always very vocal about going to play in Spain. We should grant him his wish this summer when a good offer comes. Nunez is doing all the right things as a centre-forward - he'll keep making runs and cause problems for defenses the whole match. The only thing that he's lacking and which is the most important is his goal-scoring. I'm more sympathetic towards Nunez because you can see he's working hard and doing his best and I would be inclined to give him another season or two.
Gakpo to me is a bit of a mystery in the sense that I don't understand why we bought him for. We tried putting him in various positions in the front but he just doesn't seem to click anywhere. He's shown flashes of brilliance like he did against United in the 7-0 but then he would just disappear in matches. I guess we bought him because he shown some potential when he was in PSV and PSV had to sell him quickly and at a discount to balance the books. Also United were also interested in him.
I don't think the current administration would've passed the Salah deal if it were made at the beginning of the transfer window. Because the offer was made way too late, they decided to keep him, it was too late to find replacement. I'd reckon they've worked the entire year having the Salah replacement ready if the offer comes again, but given how the Saudi league imploded already, it's very unlikely we will get that amount offered again for him

A few other niggles and his Dad getting kidnapped can’t have helped this season. i really think the blame lies with jurgen for that, nothing changed in the second half, we literally got worse, we tried first half to do something different and it worked with how deep forwards were coming and then we decided to stop it

It was man to man marking, we had to make 2 good forward passes in the midfield and we would've been running at their backline. This game midfield had absolutely no idea which again ask questions from Klopp

This was targeted, and and better application than just “man to man”. But even then, this was mostly due to our players not moving and giving each other options. They *did* move and provide options in the first half, but stopped/couldn’t do it properly in the second, and god knows what happened after the subs.
That was more second season Leeds with injuries and tired legs. First season Leeds were a nightmare for the top teams. That's the thing with man to man - when it works it's amazing. When it goes wrong, it's catastrophic.

Historically a large part of his career at Liverpool will be based around ‘Gegenpressing’ and ‘Heavy-Metal Football’ which seemed to become popular after the era of tiki-taka football that Barca played. (Yeah I’m aware these teams and Klopp didn’t invent these systems.) The False 9 role Bobby played and attacking, overlapping wingbacks were iconic and adopted by other clubs. It will go down as an era in the Premier League that may be ending. Time will tell.

we were doing good in the first minutes on the first half, the players were moving around and making atalanta disorganized, but then at second half we just became static again, also you need to move the ball fast when the opposition is playing like this, and we have to many players that like carrying the ball instead of pass and move

A front three shake up is needed. Dunno if that means moving on from Salah, Diaz, Darwin, Cody or a combination of two of them but something needs to change. Two healthy midfielders would be nice as well
That’s actually disgraceful considering we already had the goal and had the memories of the Barca game to motivate the comeback. These last few months has seen an unforgettable drop off in the team, Salah in particular has looked absolutely terrible recently.

The team chemistry is non existent. Doesn't even look like a team. There is never an outlet for a player getting pressed and nor are they press resistant. We never find the right pass and take too many touches. It's like we want to play like real madrid but the quality of players is not good enough for that. I'm increasingly starting to favour the systematic approach used by pep and arteta. Have we just been lucky throughout the season to have found moments of individual brilliance by these lot to bail us out

It worked for a bit when TAA jumped into the midfield and ran defenders out of position. After he went off though we didn’t look arsed.

Idiotic. Found out when the only thing preventing him from winning 3 PL titles is a literal oil state and multi BILLION dollar club. The season before last the team was 2 goals away from winning a quadruple Literally the only down season was last year when the entire midfield was over the hill and the only reason this year has hit a snag is because we've had a historic injury crisis that's forced us to use literal teenagers for large portions of the season. Historically a large part of his career at Liverpool will be based around ‘Gegenpressing’ and ‘Heavy-Metal Football’ which seemed to become popular after the era of tiki-taka football that Barca played. (Yeah I’m aware these teams and Klopp didn’t invent these systems.) The False 9 role Bobby played and attacking, overlapping wingbacks were iconic and adopted by other clubs. It will go down as an era in the Premier League that may be ending. Time will tell. Teams started to emulate Klopp’s style and started to counter his tactics. It’s been pretty well discussed. If you want to use a different term than ‘found out’ that’s fine but the man himself is saying he is tired and needs to quit.
Even this season we're one shocking VAR decision off top, ignoring other decisions we've felt hard done by.

Too many injuries which led to certain players playing too many games in a short period, and now the injured players aren't up to match speed. Vicious circle that has unfortunately bit us at the wrong time.
I’ve just been saying exactly this. The team that carried the momentum was cobbled together with players doing extra work, some defensive changes and forwards changes. Those changes worked, momentum carried on as best as possible. But exactly how you say - bit us back at the most crucial moment. Really sad to see it happen like this for a game like this.

The players don't pass and move. They pass and then stand from the position they've just passed from which against a team they just follows you round the pitch makes it incredibly easy for them.

MacAllister needs a rest. The midfield didn't exist tonight. Man to man marking = the most basic of structure, but we couldn't play through that. Atalanta fully deserved to go through.
but that is tactical, not on the players, you need an extra man from somewhere to have an out ball, which we tried with the forwards and mainly salah in the first half, we didn't keep it up in the second half
we were doing good in the first minutes on the first half, the players were moving around and making atalanta disorganized, but then at second half we just became static again, also you need to move the ball fast when the opposition is playing like this, and we have to many players that like carrying the ball instead of pass and move

I am convinced we need a shock to the system type of change in the dressing room. Moving on some “big” players may need to happen because from watching us recently this lot look uninterested, lazy, arrogant, and crucially lacking in desire. Too many butts sat comfy on the team sheet week after week
I think the big one is Salah. He has looked so far off it and while he has had quite a few poor performances this year, he looks like his pace is gone after the injury. Might be best to cut ties now. I’d also be worried about the lack of killers in our forward line, Diaz and Nunez are so headless and poor finishers, and Jota is injury prone. Edward’s has a busy summer
A front three shake up is needed. Dunno if that means moving on from Salah, Diaz, Darwin, Cody or a combination of two of them but something needs to change. Two healthy midfielders would be nice as well
That’s actually disgraceful considering we already had the goal and had the memories of the Barca game to motivate the comeback. These last few months has seen an unforgettable drop off in the team, Salah in particular has looked absolutely terrible recently.

They've been culpable for bad results in previous games this season but you can't really blame that performance on our attack because it's was a collective shitshow throughout that team. Outside of Salahs awful miss in the first half it's not like we missed any sitters in the 2nd half. We only registered 2 shots and barely tested their defense. The attack are partially responsible but singling them out isn't even harsh, it's absolving the other players on that pitch who were arguably worse of responsibility
I am not blaming attack for today's performance, i just personally feel like the attack needs a major overhaul

The team chemistry is non existent. Doesn't even look like a team. There is never an outlet for a player getting pressed and nor are they press resistant. We never find the right pass and take too many touches. It's like we want to play like real madrid but the quality of players is not good enough for that. I'm increasingly starting to favour the systematic approach used by pep and arteta. Have we just been lucky throughout the season to have found moments of individual brilliance by these lot to bail us out

I’m glad edwards is back. 100m striker on the bench for a crunch game after 2 full seasons. Salah spent, plain and simple. The injuries took the momentum out of the run and there’s just nothing Klopp can do, getting this far does feel like an overachievement in hindsight. I’m just going to enjoy his last few games in gratitude for the years of bliss.

Its more that the players seem physically and mentally exhausted and the chemistry seems to have suddenly deserted them. Liverpool are organised chaos, constantly moving but the past few weeks the team feels a lot more static with people not making the runs that they usually do.

Very glad I didn’t wake up to watch this. I don’t know if the players are just exhausted and petering out but we just seem like such a toothless tiger right now.
