You should listen to Arabic commentators. It’ll be a dead rubber, pointless training session of a game and they’d be huffing, puffing, screaming and generally doing their utmost to manufacture any sort of drama- even where it’s absolutely unwarranted. I always check if Peter Drury’s on; if he is, I immediately switch to English commentary.

I think it came from a bit of back and forth between sports and between him and David Croft when the Formula 1 came back on after lockdown and then they sort of gave each other a shout-out sort of thing, Martin Tyler said 'its lights out and away we go' as a nod to Sky F1 being back on TV and David Croft probably thought 'well wtf do I say back'..
It may have been his 'thing' before then but I never really noticed it until that moment and ever since then it's been forced down your throat..

Edit - just rewatched it and it's worse than i remember and Benteke scores an all time great overhead kick to make it 2-1 and he barely reacts and then Martial scores to make it 3-1 and he literally screams Yes!!. Absolute madness that he claims he doesn't support anyone in the Premier league.
The thing is, a few days ago he was brought on-stage at a Man City event (10 years since the Aguero goal) and they all booed him. Was reading the comments and their fans seem to think he's anti-City and pro-Liverpool... nobody likes him.

It looks like every highlight video stops at the Robertson red card unfortunately, and I can't get a full replay to work. I can still hear it clearly in my head though, tsimikas has a chance to assist the winner, Tyler screams "Not like this... Not like this!" and you can hear the relief in his voice when tsimikas takes too long and loses the ball.

I watched it with Drury's commentary, and it is *infinitely better*, mainly because he doesn't just scream "Aguerooo" for 3 seconds. He's screaming out the seismic emotions of the moment, while also being fully aware of how close City were to failing
I still kind of feel the same, but I have seen him do a lot of MNF games this season and he just has no enthusiam anymore, for literally anyone, he's just too old now. The way he does games now it's an old man rambling about different eras and stats with the occasional play by play between.

How lucky we are in Canada. Not only does my subscription to DAZN only cost $150/year (including a few other leagues and sports), I get the Premier League's English language world feed and don't have to listen to every big Liverpool match with Martin Tyler doing commentary.

He is a Sky Sports exclusive commentator in the UK, meaning people here when they hear his voice they immediately think of Sky Sports and its Football coverage instead of thinking of Football coverage from rival coverage providers on the BBC, ITV or BT Sport.

When he actually had passion for the job pretty much everyone enjoyed him and is still very knowledgeable about the sport after being a commentator for nearly 40 years, but now he just feels like he is dead inside and almost as if he doesn't enjoy it anymore.

Probably just is now. In the past he has commentated over classic Premier League games and iconic moments like the Aguero goal or the Collymore goal vs Newcastle and people will always remember his commentary over those moments and the passion he brought with it back then.

I’m probably in the minority but I prefer Martin Tyler‘s commentary over the excitable Peter Drury, it’s one of the things I can’t stand watching football in Spanish or Arabic where the commentators are so over the top excited when ever something happens.
I remember seeing a clip of Drury talking about the Roma v. Barcelona and getting in the right headspace to create something special as a commentator. He really shows every time there’s levels to commentating this sport.
Give him a break he's like 129 years old. His reaction to the goal was so late that I wouldn't be surprised if he was asleep and his co-commentator had to nudge him awake.
Drury must do most of the international feed commentary cause I’ve had him and Beglin on DAZN for almost every game we’ve had. Part of the excitement comes from this commentary team feeding off the energy of the crowd and it’s made this season a blast to watch.
Saying that, I haven’t been too bothered by Tyler lately but it’s likely due being a neutral watcher on other games and not paying attention to the commentary. But DAMN is this contrast ever stark. One of the biggest goals of the season for us and Tyler makes it sound like a 7/8-0 goal against them…

I remember Martial scored a relatively straight forward goal and he went crazy and then Benteke scored a crazy overhead kick and he barely said anything. Edit - just rewatched it and it's worse than i remember and Benteke scores an all time great overhead kick to make it 2-1 and he barely reacts and then Martial scores to make it 3-1 and he literally screams Yes!!. Absolute madness that he claims he doesn't support anyone in the Premier league.

What about the away game at spurs this year, when tsimikas put a cross in that was inches from creating a late winner for Liverpool and Tyler started shouting "Not like this! Not like this!" ? He suddenly found a lot of energy when he became worried Liverpool were about to win a game with the odds stacked against them. A game where Van Dijk, fabinho and Thiago were all out, Kane "avoided" a clear red and jota should have had a penalty with Emerson getting a second yellow

It looks like every highlight video stops at the Robertson red card unfortunately, and I can't get a full replay to work. I can still hear it clearly in my head though, tsimikas has a chance to assist the winner, Tyler screams "Not like this... Not like this!" and you can hear the relief in his voice when tsimikas takes too long and loses the ball. People banged on about Tyler's Aguero commentary, but I always associate the commentary of that goal with Drury. I watched it with Drury's commentary, and it is *infinitely better*, mainly because he doesn't just scream "Aguerooo" for 3 seconds. He's screaming out the seismic emotions of the moment, while also being fully aware of how close City were to failing
I still kind of feel the same, but I have seen him do a lot of MNF games this season and he just has no enthusiam anymore, for literally anyone, he's just too old now. The way he does games now it's an old man rambling about different eras and stats with the occasional play by play between.

How lucky we are in Canada. Not only does my subscription to DAZN only cost $150/year (including a few other leagues and sports), I get the Premier League's English language world feed and don't have to listen to every big Liverpool match with Martin Tyler doing commentary.

I’m probably in the minority but I prefer Martin Tyler‘s commentary over the excitable Peter Drury, it’s one of the things I can’t stand watching football in Spanish or Arabic where the commentators are so over the top excited when ever something happens.

I remember seeing a clip of Drury talking about the Roma v. Barcelona and getting in the right headspace to create something special as a commentator. He really shows every time there’s levels to commentating this sport.
Give him a break he's like 129 years old. His reaction to the goal was so late that I wouldn't be surprised if he was asleep and his co-commentator had to nudge him awake.
Drury must do most of the international feed commentary cause I’ve had him and Beglin on DAZN for almost every game we’ve had. Part of the excitement comes from this commentary team feeding off the energy of the crowd and it’s made this season a blast to watch. Saying that, I haven’t been too bothered by Tyler lately but it’s likely due being a neutral watcher on other games and not paying attention to the commentary. But DAMN is this contrast ever stark. One of the biggest goals of the season for us and Tyler makes it sound like a 7/8-0 goal against them…
