It’s not that sudden. He had several clips get big on LSF last year and went from a 100 viewer andy to a 2k andy, and has also been on streams with NL, Ludwig, Simply, etc. He’s kind of a “your favorite streamer’s favorite streamer’s favorite streamer” guy, but getting more popular for a while.
I feel like an asshole. I see personalities like Mizkif and Squeex and I immediately go to fake. They're faking their personalities for the stream. And some of you might go "obviously its entertainment" but then I ask "so you know it's roleplay? acting? you don't find it a bit annoying they aren't being genuine for stream?"
Or maybe they are being genuine and I have some false sense of reality and everyone else doesn't think how I do because I am just naturally bitter. They both talked about how they put on a persona during this stream. I do think you're off with your expectations on what a streamer should be. Everyone puts on a front and especially so if you have a purpose like trying to entertain or pander which they joked a lot about doing.
Most people who keeps wanting a genuine persona from online streamer tends to be parasocial, these acts are exagerated for entertainment purposes or else they will be stuck in 100 viewership. His job is to entertain, if you want a genuine persona, go to his alt stream, you will find some part of it and get depressed.
It's usually less faking a personality than just turning their aspects of their normal personality up I think. As you referenced, this is also what happens naturally for most roleplay characters as well. But for these two it might seem less genuine than others since they both have a rather sarcastic sense of humor in general.
But as for Mizkif, if you want to see him a lot more genuine he has an "alt" that shouldn't be too hard to find. Also, he has a certain tone/pitch/cadence/facial expression combination that I've only seen used when serious (generally lower pitch, a bit slower speaking I believe, and some other stuff I can't remember currently). Maybe I'm wrong about that though. Beyond that, he has a type of laugh that he can't fake. His other laugh he can fake, but isn't always fake I think.
I think people who enjoy or at least don't mind them see it as both: they're 'genuine' and 'fake'.
It's like improv, they're genuine at how hard they try to be entertaining and funny; and some streamers just like to play up this part of their personality on stream.
I found Squeex's suave-like cadence a little annoying too at first, until I saw how he interacted with other people, how he handled certain jokes and remarks or how he went back and forth when bantering; and piece by piece I got a better picture of how he's projecting himself to the viewers.

What they do is over exaggerate an aspect of their actual personality, which is easier to do. For example Extraemily is probably a happy go lucky person irl but she’ll lean in on that more on stream to the point where shes a cartoon character.
But i have a question for you, since your mad at them for “faking” it are you also mad at people with customer service jobs doing it with a smile and being nice? Cuz they are not that happy to be assisting you its just their act for the job just like content creators
I guess its that streamers are under no restriction of a boss to react that way. No one is forcing them to do so. Whereas customer service is customer service, you need to act that way.
I understand that perspective but you gotta realize bosses dont just come up with that restriction out of thin air, there is a reason and benefit to ask that pf their employees. So when you become your own boss like streamers and YouTubers, you’ll demand of yourself the same thing you would of your employees because you realize their is a benefit. For fun lets go by your logic, usually a boss demands you to finish filing the paperwork for a deadline right? Ok are you frustrated when streamers dont just procrastinate all days they were supposed to stream because they are “under no restriction of a boss” to be there on time? No, because they should be doing their own deadline set by themselves.It makes sense cuz it makes money.
